  • THIS 18KT GOLD RING GOT A BRAND NEW BEZEL.
    The old one was worn out and I knew it was just a question of time when the stone will fall out.

    After a ver long (busy) time without creating new content I'm proud to share this NEW VIDEO with all of you!
    I've racked my head - Not only because the video is so long, but also because I wasn't sure how to edit the video.
    In the end I just thought to myself - KEEP IT SIMPLE.
    Except for 3 or 4 video cuts, the video is unabridged and unadulterated.
    EVERY step is visible, every movement is visible, every "secret" is visible.
    You decide what to watch and where to fast forward.
    This setting technique is the product of many many years.
    With this technique you are able to set any gemstone you like. No pressure against the girdle or the thinnest parts of the stone. The material gets slowly moved over the upper facets of the stone.
    Observe the angle of the bezel when starting, where to start and so on.
    60 MINUTES PURE STONESETTING
    ENJOY
    Special THX to the whole JURA - FAMILY.
    JURA motivated me back then to teach myself.
    You were friendly and down to earth and never got tired of answering my questions. Without the amazing inventions of JURA and the effort of his gorgeous daughter + family we would miss a lot without knowing it.

    absolutely beautifully set . I learned a lot yet I have been a goldsmith for 40 years . I'm retired now so to keep busy I still make pieces for pleasure . I used to send my setting out but now I do my own . It is rewarding but challenging , especially if they have 90degree corners . I saw today some smart technique that I can try and I truly admire those like you who are really looking for the absolute best level . Cheers , Canadian jeweller

      Thank you for your warm words!! I really apprecite it. Stonesetting is very technical, there are no shortcuts, if you want to have a certain outcome. I really feel privileged to set so much stones the last 10 years. So much went wrong, but it got smoother and „easier“. I got stuck again and again. Especially at key elements (tools/technique) it helps tremendously when a helping hand is there. Keep up your passion and hard work! I think a video of cutting corners with different approaches would be a good idea!!
      All the best 🖤

    Hello, What is that paint stuff that you put on the ring prior to the beginning of the video? You took it off with a solution and a Q-tip. I suppose that makes it easier to see where you are removing metal?

    • @Blackmage50
      @Blackmage50 Год назад +1

      It's probably Seat Check Disclosure Powder. Really helps you see where the stone is touching.

    • @thediamondsetter6158
      @thediamondsetter6158  Год назад +8

      The so called „occlusion“ spray coats the metal with a thin film. When i insert the stone you see exactly where the stone has contact. Thats the only (safe) way to make sure there is a regular and even contact with the metal.
      I removed it because i don‘t want the green spray trapped between the stone and the metal, especially with whitegold that gets a rhodium coating it has to be very clean. Also ultrasonic cant remove 100% of trapped powder.

      Lovely work, one question how do you not scratch the stone?

    • @thediamondsetter6158
      @thediamondsetter6158  Год назад +1

      @@paulbarfield4033 🙏 - Make sure you do not get in contact with your tools and sandpaper! When you do the brightcut polish the contact point of the graver where it could meet the stone - so it will slide on the stone instead of scratching it. And always - no force against the stone!!

    • @thediamondsetter6158
      @thediamondsetter6158  9 месяцев назад

      Its a carbide ball bur. Most of the time i use carbide tools. There are some downsides, and much more expensive, but the edge stays so much longer, and i can work much quicker.
