I think I basically answered my own question but still as I said I'd appreciate confirmation. BTW. I don't want any other phone, that quad dac is a must for me as I own several expensive IEMs and headphones. Thank you

But I'm a musician and teacher, not a technophile (Does that word exist?) By the way I'm an audiophile so I'm interested in all things audio. Keep up the good work. Excellent job.
Is the LG V50 still worth it in September 2020? I am tired of spending over $1000 on phones. After a little bit of research I feel the V50 for $300 used is a good deal for the screen and the cameras. Plus I have been using different wireless buds from the aipod pros to Jabra 65t to the Samsung buds and I think for the clearest sound I need the head jack. So is it a good deal? Let me know. Thanks.
Depends on your region. Here in the USA, the V450 on sprint got screwed by the T-Mo acquisition. In other areas I'm more positive. The V50 is still a MONSTER performer. In some ways, a better phone than the V60.
LOL It's a solid screen. Auto gamma makes it a LITTLE less reliable than a pro calibrated display, but otherwise it's easily one of the best screens of its year.
I've an V10 right now and had it for years now and like it a LOT. I'm looking for a better version but not sure if I like the double screen. Don't see the use for it, not to mention that it might only make it thicker in pocket... maybe.
Man, you're the true voice out there, someway, somehow I want people of my country to listen to this.. LG phones aren't sold anymore in Pakistan, I got furious and argued with a distributor and he defended himself saying that there's no demand for LG devices anymore as they are most of the time faulty and problematic. I've been using LG since i don't know when and have not faced any major issues apart from the minor screen retention thing on my LG V20 which is fine now, i got its screen replaced. I've been out to buy LG V40/V50 but sadly, it's just not available anywhere near me, so i stick with my v20.
It's the biggest issue with LG IMO. Better consumer outreach would help drive interest, which would increase demand, and help them in distribution negotiations. It won't matter if LG makes the most amazing phones and improves support to lead the industry. If consumers don't know, the phones won't sell.
@@SomeGadgetGuy True. Whenever I ask for LG at the mall sales people point me to fridges, airconditioners, and washing machines. Good thing I found someone importing Korean variants.

Any particular reason why you are using 16:9 aspect ratio over 18:9? For your videos that is? It is a little irritating having to have some texts missing when I zoom in on a video.
Logically speaking, my phone uses 18.5:9 aspect ratio and most of the mobile devices before 2018 uses 16:9 aspect ratio does not necessarily mean that the content should comply to recent aspect ratio nowadays.
really hope LG puts some polish and grease into their mobile phone, and hopefully the mobile division can become something more like their Display division.
How are the gestures? Does it still has the pill and 1 button or full no button gesture? Does thesr gestures work fluid as the pixel's? I'm getting interested in Lg just because of you even though I had a bad experience with a G5 years ago.
Gestures work fine. I don't think anything has arrived as smooth as the pixel. LG's implementation seems on par, maybe a little less twitchy than OP. Not as deliberate as Sony. It's good. The issue is the flip to dual screen, where LG's current implementation requires the traditional nav buttons. As for the G5, that was my personal worst LG. I have two G4's, A Flex 2, and a V10 that all still run great. I went through three G5's at pocketnow before i got one that worked long enough to review. Then jumped on the G6, and since then I've had great experiences.
@@SomeGadgetGuy seems that the g5 had many problems, even though I enjoyed it for the ultrawide and performance was ok. Thanks for reply and excellent video 🙌 let's see if Lg creates a beast this year.

Juan! We're so similar in our liking for and analysis of LG. (And love of powerdirector ;)) I usually am so surprised by how you say exactly what's on my mind. This video I was surprised by how that was not the case. I just updated my V50 thinq to android 10 and i think it SUCKS. I miss the tab view. I miss the the pin screen. I miss the multi window. I miss the mini screen. These are just some of the things I noticed right away went bye-bye with android 10. And considering that I use powerdirector all the time finding out about slower rendering just adds to the hurt. :( Any advice? Either way, God Bless you.

Hi, interested in getting a new phone. Currently have a Nokia 8. I wanted to find out which LG would be the best one to get. Will it be the V50 dual screen or the LG G8X dual screen? They are around the same cost on contract. Thank you
Before I decide I want it for my next phone, I have a big question. Does it have the option to have the home bar (the one seen on the iPhone, OnePlus 7T, etc?) I really like the gesture feature from Android Pie, and I was wondering if they have it on the V50.
Hi Juan! Just wanted to ask as I'm considering the v50 (already have the v20), does the v50 still have the cinelog codec introduced in the v30 or was it dropped too? Thanks a lot man
Having G8X device, for my experience, LG needs much more polish dual screen experience (switch between modes is slow and not intuitive), but the worst part is the fingerprint scanner and no support for camera unlock alternative, I just can't use the device... I hope with an update LG can improve the situation. but with they updates (slow, not regular, region locked) probably will make the phone not relevant when it actually gets them
Hey, I've been watching your videos on the V50. I live in South Korea, and got mine last week, so I have the dual case and full 5G access. I'm updating to Android 10 now, but I do have a question, if you please. How do I install the on screen keyboard? That's one of the features I'll use most, but I haven't yet figured out how to switch it on, or which app to download. I guess I might try the gaming controls, if I can find a game I like that actually uses joystick style controls - I'm more of a puzzle person. Maybe a Mario Kart or something might make use of it. Any links to apps or videos/pages showing how to set up that keyboard would be greatly appreciated.
Hopefully the G8 will get the Android 10 update. Been looking forward to that desktop mode since I heard about it. This video just makes me want it more.
Juan does this update give the new UI to the LG G8 also? I have decided to purchase the original G8 instead of g8X coming from a ph-1 Look forward to response keep up the great work!!
@@SomeGadgetGuy yes the LG G8 had been updated to 10 on Verizon this week and sprint was first TMobile of att should be next I'm surprised y'all don't Google this information
Thanks for the reply! I had seen that both carriers had done the Android 10 update but my question pertains to the UI as I would like the newer version of it. Was a hard decision between the 2 versions of G8 but with the price drop of the original on the secondary market makes it a no brainier Ultimately the best one is the V50 but my carrier places unnecessary expenses to rock a 5G phone when 5g is still not nation wide and still in it's enfantcy stages
I wanted an LG G8 or a V50 sooo bad but LG doesn't bring those to Europe. I ended up with a OP 7 Pro and don't get me wrong the phone is great, I just love the features LG offers.
Not a bad video. I admit I only watched for a desktop mode. Because many manufactures tried to implement but failed like: Ubuntu, Asus, HP, Huawei, Samsung. I think hardware it out now, but software lacks, and I think you cant charge at the same time and connect to external monitor or dock and if you can then phone gets hot. I think for normal desktop mode we need to wait about 2-4 years.
Youre a bit behind. After the Kirin 970, phones have run pretty cool for desktop modes. The massive heat pipe in the V50 accomplishes some fantastic heavy lifting while keeping the phone relatively cool. ruclips.net/video/auqmaqK1GTs/видео.html
Any Knowledge Of ECO Playback Mode On LG G8 ThinQ? How do I Disable It During Screen Sharing With My LG TV? It Started When The Android 10 Update Was Installed.
Juan, do you ever see LG abandoning the headphone jack on the V-series with so many OEM's already having done so? Owning the V30 didn't work out for me due to reception issues, but as the owner of a S10+ the music listening experience, while ok, still doesn't compare to the LG quad DAC. I missed it so much that I ended up buying a T-Mo variant V20 on the cheap to use solely as a media player (and as a back up should I be without the main for whatever need for repair/replacement arises). How long do you think before LG "gets with the times", so to speak? If ever they do, it's sure to alienate those of us who do love the quad DAC and see it as the main, best feature on their phones.
Unfortunately I think everyone will. Apple shows it's EXTREMELY profitable to break a phone and then sell the "solution" to what they broke. Samsung copied Apple after making fun of them for it. At some point LG will probably make that jump too. I think it's totally worth picking up an old used LG though. Probably get a G7 for a steal to use as a DAP. WAY cheaper than a standalone player, and a better experience than those Android players.
Hey! I'm pretty late here, I know. But about to buy the V50 soon. Can it also create those amazing Cinegraphs (is it the right name? 🙃) just like the V40? You know, those shots where you can have a part in motion and the other part frozen?
Nice review! Has anyone used the sprint LG v50 ThinQ unlocked on T-Mobile network and can lmk how its worked for you? The v60 is nice but i like the v50 better (comes in black, fingerprint reader on back, more ppi, etc) but just activated my T-Mobile plan and dont plan on switching carriers anytime soon
Always loved Lg , currently loving my V30 Though tbh I didn't upgrade because the notches and asymmetrical bezels turn me off, we need a vivo nex 3 style lg phone with triple 64 mp camera & tof and epic camera software (4k 120 fps video , ~16bit log video, Dolby vision recording , super steady video, smooth ai zoom (snapdragon 865 style) ) and maybe add 1 hour fast charge & a good (worlds first waterproof) pop up camera With those features Lg could rule the market regardless of slow updates & its 7.5/10 ux design
Pretty clear LG won't play that game this year. Looking like they'll do notches until a true under display camera is cheap enough to include. It's a part of LG's DNA though. They certify devices for IP and MIL-STD standards. They don't want to give up either for a periscope selfie.
@@Elias_g1 well the software isn't ready for it yet. It needs to be native to Android. And this way it allows users to try it out without the oem spending billions.
I am an LG fan, but my unlocked US V35 is still on Android 9 with an October 2019 security patch. I know LG does much better on carrier-branded phones, but this is not great.
Not a lot of phones from 2018 are on 10 yet. Still waiting on the Galaxy roll out. You've got to go to the "near stock" manufacturers for Android 10 updates. OP did a good job on the 6 and 6T, but they dont include nearly as much custom software and hardware as LG.
@@SomeGadgetGuy Understood. I was just hoping for better security patches. But my old Verizon V30 seems better cared for. I don't want to give up the quad DAC combined with Tidal and USB Audio Player Pro! Though that Surface Duo may make me switch...
I give this advice a lot, but when you get a new phone, hold on to that V35! It'll make for an amazing standalone media player, easily outperform $300-500 android based DAPs, and it'll take some of the load off of a daily driver phone. Run that V35 into the ground.
Juan, I love my G8...except for that horizontal green pill call timer. It's infuriating, and if it's still around when I am ready for my next phone, I'll be saying bye to LG. Have you figured out how to disable it?
V50 Sprint update is on XDA. Carriers mess all this up on less popular phones. Instead of looking at the V50 as one of their premium crown jewel 5G devices, I guarantee there are bean counters looking at the number of devices sold to move updates through the certification process.
Really hoping 10 fixes the audio issues on the Amazon G8. The EQ is broken when you switch to user mode and the Bluetooth has distortion in the high-end (SBC is awful and AAC, while better, is still not as good as the number of other devices I have)
@@SomeGadgetGuy I have the generation of LG Tones that only support SBC/AAC. I've avoided AptX on Android like the plague. No matter the device or headset, it would at some point glitch and cause a loud distortion spike. No idea if that still happens with Pie or 10.
Now, the big LG needs to do if they want to make a comeback is, bring some more updates to their older devices, like Android 9 w/ UX 8 to the V20, G5 and G6, Android 10 to the V30, V35 and V40. It looks like that's he mainstream tech media's only real complaint with LG, is the updates.
I can confirm the g6 got it, I wish I haven't broken it's Sim reader and Sim tray. I still use it as a secondary next to a a8 (the s9 heats up too much, and Sim tray broken again), at least I am going to keep it alongside my mi9T Pro when it comes from service

For me Korean would be little bit more expensive but that doesn't matter as long as I can use it in Europe. I don't care for 5g, only normal usage and regular updates. Both versions I found on ebay are unlocked. US version is Sprint CDMA and GSM unlocked. And Korean is unlocked international version.
I think I basically answered my own question but still as I said I'd appreciate confirmation.
BTW. I don't want any other phone, that quad dac is a must for me as I own several expensive IEMs and headphones.
Thank you
Nice video...did the camera performance improve with the update?
great video you got there sir. keep it up!
since you review the v50 and g8x so which is better for you? the battery life, display, speakers and camera? thanks in advance! ✌
Just got this in Australia and my favourite feature is Proper Dark mode! 😍
From Australia.
Brilliant as always. Delivered with verve and fine articulation.
No mention of any improvement on audio with this update? But I'm a musician and teacher, not a technophile (Does that word exist?)
By the way I'm an audiophile so I'm interested in all things audio.
I love how Juan uses the outliers of massively popular social media apps. He cares about that battery life
👍
Wanna ask something..
How about the lgv50 screen?
People said that it is not bright enough and not beautiful.. is that true?? What is ur opinion
Don't see the use for it, not to mention that it might only make it thicker in pocket... maybe.
If you're in the USA, then we didn't get the V500 (with dual screen support) we got the V450, which is kinda like a V40+.
LG users here since G3 G6 and now using G7+....planning to upgrade this year.
Can’t wait for new Gs...no G8 launched here in Indonesia
LG distribution was ROUGH last year. I think 5G messed them up. Hopefully this year is better.
Do you like G8X or V50 for dual screen usage better?
G8X. The V50 is a better all around phone, but the G8X case is a lot more refined.
Thank you for sharing.
Greetings from Dominican Republic.
👍
Did the android 10 update roll out to the Sprint V50 as well?
Also does netflix work on desktop mode?
Soooo, based on this review of the LG v50 it's time for me to upgrade from my LG v30 Juan? 🤣🤣🤣 I stopped buying Samsung mobile devices after that battery debacle with the Note7. I"ve been with LG since the v20 and I love their phones and the cameras on the phones. I've had the v30 since the beginning and updated it to the ThinQ software and now I'm running Android 9 on it. Been following you for a while and now you've convinced me to pick up the LG v50. Thank you sir.
Ha! Right on. If your v30 is still in good shape though, I'd maybe recommend waiting if you can. MWC is RIGHT around the corner.
I'm getting an unlocked Sprint model with a T-Mobile SIM will I get the update?
I'm on T-Mobile and I'm thinking about getting the v50 unlock Sprint model. How has it worked for you?
Damn. Dex is a major need for me, but with LG doing stuff like this.... Real tempting
Any idea of LG G6 getting a custom ROM based on the g8x build or any LG Ux 9.0 ROM?
Also would you recommend me to sell my mi9T Pro (from Xiaomi) as I see the 865 is coming alongside hexagon 698, isp 480, which improved photography, makes better reflections, better scene and camera depth map and detection alongside with situational filters based on Morpho, and Dolby vision??
Any particular reason why you are using 16:9 aspect ratio over 18:9? For your videos that is? It is a little irritating having to have some texts missing when I zoom in on a video.
Because its default
@@frainity ?The Tech Chap and Linus Tech Tips use 18:9.
Good review, i love lg. They listen to their consumers
Is the experience good with using Nova launcher and the dual screen?
This actually gets me hyped up for v60. I just hope they'll have the finger print scanner in front i don't even care if it's under the screen or not. And a pump in battery
Is there another version of LG V50 that doesn't support 5G connectivity ? I plan to buy the dual sim version and the seller told me it doesn't have 5G. Please tell me. Thx
Lg v50 is going to be in my pocket soon if sprint give it an update to 10 wish they would advertise more like and offer buyout of other companies phone and partner with best buy like samsung does for discounts on they next level devices but great review good to see someone finds value in the reviewing great devices afrer all the nostalgia.
Juan! We're so similar in our liking for and analysis of LG. (And love of powerdirector ;))
I usually am so surprised by how you say exactly what's on my mind.
Either way,
God Bless you.
Nice.... just what I needed to see... I use the iPhone SE 2020 for work and have been waiting and the LGV 50 has finally fallen to $300 and so I got one it’s coming in two days.
Congrats on the new phones! That should be a fun BIG/little combo 😁
If I only listen to Spotify on easy to drive iems, would the V50 still make a difference in sound quality? Or is the quad dac meant for high res files and hard to drive headphones
A month after? I'm on a Note 9 on Verizon here in the US & we still haven't gotten Android 10!
Love "...but I digress...!!" parts in your video... Hahahahaha... Welcome Desktop Mode!! They heard you JC on this...
Hi, interested in getting a new phone. Currently have a Nokia 8. I wanted to find out which LG would be the best one to get. Will it be the V50 dual screen or the LG G8X dual screen? They are around the same cost on contract. Thank you
Apparently android 10 removed native dsd playback. Has there been any updates to bring it back?
Yes, got 10 for my V50 a few days ago. Great one!
Thanks a lot man
This and the g lineup (along with dual screen) are the most versatile phones ever
When will US V50 get Android 10?
Having G8X device, for my experience, LG needs much more polish dual screen experience (switch between modes is slow and not intuitive), but the worst part is
the fingerprint scanner and no support for camera unlock alternative, I just can't use the device...
G8 already has it on Sprint and VZW. Still waiting for T-mobile to get with it...
I'm looking forward to the update. Let's go T-Mobile!!
Juan does this update give the new UI to the LG G8 also? I have decided to purchase the original G8 instead of g8X coming from a ph-1
Look forward to response keep up the great work!!
Dunno. I have the T-Mo G8, which is the only one to NOT get the update today.
Hi, Juan! I'm looking for ref. LG V50S - but there's kinda no info about that phone. Can you get one for review please?..
Sorry. I asked, and just couldn't grab one to import.
I wanted an LG G8 or a V50 sooo bad but LG doesn't bring those to Europe. I ended up with a OP 7 Pro and don't get me wrong the phone is great, I just love the features LG offers.
LG distribution was ROUGH last year. That's one of the major issues I hope gets addressed.
@@SomeGadgetGuy The other thing is that almost everyone trashed the phones without giving them a chance for no reason at all...
You can tell who REALLY used the phone to review it.
@@SomeGadgetGuy Exactly !
Making miss my LG life. I jumped ship to Samsung but I will go back to LG I know I won't get another Samsung phone. Thanks for the update review
Great content man, thanks!
👍
Does LG V50 Support hdmi out, like the LG V30 did?
Did you find the answer?
Thank you Bro. Good job. I am well informed. I bought it.
Still.. Do we have any other rom for this nice device?
@@SomeGadgetGuy do you have link to video G7 as DAP
Hey!
I'm pretty late here, I know. But about to buy the V50 soon. Can it also create those amazing Cinegraphs (is it the right name? 🙃) just like the V40?
You know, those shots where you can have a part in motion and the other part frozen?
Anyone knows if the V50S already has an update for Android 10? Since the V50 got it already.
Always loved Lg , currently loving my V30
Though tbh I didn't upgrade because the notches and asymmetrical bezels turn me off, we need a vivo nex 3 style lg phone with triple 64 mp camera & tof and epic camera software (4k 120 fps video , ~16bit log video, Dolby vision recording , super steady video, smooth ai zoom (snapdragon 865 style) ) and maybe add 1 hour fast charge & a good (worlds first waterproof) pop up camera
With those features Lg could rule the market regardless of slow updates & its 7.5/10 ux design
Pretty clear LG won't play that game this year. Looking like they'll do notches until a true under display camera is cheap enough to include. It's a part of LG's DNA though. They certify devices for IP and MIL-STD standards. They don't want to give up either for a periscope selfie.
I like your explanation bro. :D 👍✔😁
Are you able to do a video on the best apps for dual screen multitasking? I feel like I'm missing out on so much that I can't think of
Still waiting for the android 10 update in Australia .
The ONLY reviewer to trust with LG phones.
A FEW of us out there. Just gotta look a little harder LOL
This is the way dual screen should be made.
I really like this as the transition. Until Android gets better at supporting dual display, it's great not being MARRIED to dual screen hardware.
This is the safest and best implementation so far.The tech is not ready yet !
@@Elias_g1 well the software isn't ready for it yet. It needs to be native to Android.
And this way it allows users to try it out without the oem spending billions.
Wow one of the fastest software updates for lg
*cries in v30s+ and g6*
I'm still stuck with Oreo. no updates for more than a year now. LGV30+
@@intepolation have you tried using lg Bridge? I got an ota for pie on my v30s+ and flashed pie on my g6
@@SomeGadgetGuy OF COURSE! Only phone that can drive the planar magnetic Tin P1s decently (in high impedance mode)!
Juan, I love my G8...except for that horizontal green pill call timer. It's infuriating, and if it's still around when I am ready for my next phone, I'll be saying bye to LG. Have you figured out how to disable it?
2:48 that's a nice looking phone 😎
AWESOME videooo!!!!!
😎
Too Bad Sprint V50 doesn't get updates? Why? Still on September security. But hey Sprint finally released V40 Pie update. That's on December security.
V50 Sprint update is on XDA. Carriers mess all this up on less popular phones. Instead of looking at the V50 as one of their premium crown jewel 5G devices, I guarantee there are bean counters looking at the number of devices sold to move updates through the certification process.
Good reviews for LG fans
Really hoping 10 fixes the audio issues on the Amazon G8. The EQ is broken when you switch to user mode and the Bluetooth has distortion in the high-end (SBC is awful and AAC, while better, is still not as good as the number of other devices I have)
That's a bummer. I've been listening on APTX and LDAC for so long I hadn't tried AAC or SBC on the G8.
Working to get this or the lgg8 whichever comes 1st. Can't wait!
G8 just got its update today!
@@SomeGadgetGuy sweet!!
Is the video editing app fully functional in desktop mode?
Functional but has issues re-sizing.
If I use the unlocked version of this phone and use it on att will I get ota updates or not?
