    What has been your biggest ever culture shock in a new country?

    • @Yasin_Affandi
      @Yasin_Affandi 7 месяцев назад +7

      I was shocked by the loud continuous honking in Mumbai, even after 3 years working and living in the city, I still find such noises are very disturbing.

    • @Livingabroadalex
      @Livingabroadalex  7 месяцев назад +2

      @Yasin_Affandi wow me too!! It was even shocking to see signs on trucks and cars encouraging honking

    • @Yasin_Affandi
      @Yasin_Affandi 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@Livingabroadalex Hehe. It's a part of their culture. Actually, what was even more shocking is the level of poverty in the big cities like Mumbai. I just couldn't believe what I witnessed with my own eyes. It's truly sad to see what it's like, nobody really cares, what future would that be when thinking forward in life.

      It was at Padang, Sumatera for me, the traffic was super crazy with traffic lights not working, no helmets for motorcyclists, vehicles even passing very close by on smaller roads, but there's NO honking at all 😂 And there were no accidents either 😂 I thought I was gonna die a few times lol Then the tour guide explained to us that the people are from Minangkabau tribes, so in their culture it's very disrespectful to anger or offend people because it can leads to generations of hatred or enemies between the families 😅 So they really try not to offend anyone with honking on the road etc 😅

    Interviewees from Commonwealth countries such as the UK, Australia, or Canada could notice some parallels between Malaysia and their countries since, prior to localising the system to fit our environment and culture, we learned a lot from the British in terms of administration, education, and the legal system. Compared to other countries in Southeast Asia where immigrants brought here by the British have since become citizens, Malaysia and Singapore are more multiethnic nations. Because of this, our cuisine and culture are incredibly diverse and rich. Thus, simply travel to Malaysia if you'd like to have a glimpse of whole Asia. In one location, you might come across Chinese, Indians, Indonesians, and Middle Easterners all are here in Malaysia. Malaysia is truly Asia.

      I still remember my 9 days seven nights holiday in Spain in 1996. At that time, I was working in KLCC site office, a place where you did this interview. I had stayed in Madrid, Seville, Torrremolinos, Granada, been to Sierra Nevada, Jerez, Malaga, Cadiz and few other places in Spain. I fell in love with Europe and the UNESCO world heritage sites, they are very inspirational. 😀

      Looking at beautiful KLCC (the place), I deeply regret leaving KLCC in 1999 (the company that developed KLCC) and only joined MIDA in Dec 2002, hoping for a posting to Europe. However, in Dec 2008, I was posted to Mumbai, not my cup of tea, it was totally not the right place, not a conducive environment to broaden my horizon, I was looking for something better than KLCC. What a waste. Should have stayed firm in KLCC (the company) and enjoy my life. 😀

    Hi Alex, when will You be back in the Philippines?
    The reason I ask, no Vloggers have ever been to my Wife's village, which I now reside in.
    It's quite boring for most here.
    I did mention to Derek, from Q Adventures, that no Vloggers have never come here. I thought he might want to be the first. He's quite busy with his boat project, plus he is in the U.S. at the moment.
    People have asked me to be a Vloggers, I have no interest in Vlogging.
    I will admit, it is quite boring here.
    I AM never bored. I AM always looking for my water, glasses or I AM magmagna. Which means, "walk walk" or long walk in Ilocano.
    I LOVE adventure, but I AM more of a home body, mostly.qq
    If You let me know here, next time You are in the Philippines, I can give You directions. I AM obsolete to this new technology, so maybe You can mention Your email here or where to find it?
    Whoever wants to be first to Vlog here, I know the right people. From Barangay captains, police officers, people in political positions and locals that want to be noticed. Me, not do much.
    I aways l👀k forward to You next video, especially on Asia Now Official. Because it's quite comical with Your wording slip-ups. Maybe You could add, how do You say, Duhhhhh....in Tagalog? J/K LoL 😂
