This is the camera I have and I love it. And he's right, it's great for those who like the look of a DSLR with the simplicity of a point and shoot. Plus you get the flexibility of having at least a few manual settings, so that's nice. I personally have had a few people mistakenly think that it's a DSLR, lol. Also even in 2019, having the battery be 4 AA batteries is so handy, they're pretty darn affordable, so I'm never stuck with a dead camera looking for a wall to charge my one battery, If need be I can always just go buy a pack of AA batteries and be good to go.

Definetly download the manual & try to learn all you can about the possibilities if you're like me & it's your 1st digital camera, lots of features. The more you understand it, the better use you can make of it. Plenty of bang for the buck. Almost never leave the house without it, but it does weigh a tad over 1 lb. I would reccommend this camera to anyone.
Pheline Tan Yes, & if you check the downloadable manual you will see there are numerous features you can use to take portraits, such as smile detection & a blink feature so the camera won't shoot if it detects someone blinking. Now the price is coming down because a COOLPIX L840 is out.

I tried to take a video with my L830, and it kept stopping after a few moments. How can I set it, leave it set on the tripod and have it keep videoing without stopping?
It comes with a cable to connect to your computer. You can import your pics from the camera memory if you don't have a memory card. It comes with a neck strap, lens cover, 4 AA alkaline batteries, & a VERY basic booklet. I understand you can download a 200 page manual, but I'm not having any luck with that.
I just got this camera today and i found out the the auto focus is a little bit difficult to get right into. Can you please tell me how to get into the 64x dynamic zoom? I haven't seemed to figure it out yet. Thank you so much!
Its really simple to get the Dynamic zoom after it is zoomed fully via optical zoom it will continue to then be Dynamic zoom, Auto focus is pretty simple also, switch your camera to auto on the top (green square on the dial) press the shutter button half way with the object you want as the main focus in the center, then corp or angle to your liking
I'm having a problem shooting non-blurry "sports" photos. Tried taking pictures at my daughter's soccer practice and all the photos are blurry. I put it on the scene/mode for sports.
+Caroline Murphy Hi Caroline. I hate to be the one to tell you this; but the Nikon L830 is generally not considered good for sports photography. While it does have a sports mode, it lacks other features that you're going to need for sports photos. For example, it doesn't have manual focus mode.

I usually put my camera on portrait mode when I am taking photos of people (just hit the scene button and scroll until you see portrait mode). Hope that helps.
Well...you do need a steady hand to shoot good pictures. Its sort of like shooting a gun.....breathe out, hold it, press the shutter button, don't jab at it. With practice it will become natural. Good Lyuck!

I just got this camera to take photos of my children. Every photo is blurry. They only have to move slightly and the whole pic is blurred. I have increase the ISO sensitivity value. I have enabled vibration reduction and have tried various best shot selections. It only takes good photos of already sill pics. Can anyone offer any advice?

+ylimemily There's a number things that could potentially cause this. For example, maybe your SD card is full, or maybe you have it set to automatically turn off after a certain amount of time. It could also be a hardware issue, which will be hard to determine unless you have someone professionally look at it.

The l830 had a longer battery and more frames per second but the p520 has more features such as hdr and high iso is up to you what works better for you

Happy to help. I recommend making sure you using manual control for your camera so you can firstly control all of the settings to exactly your liking. For sport, I recommend going no slower than 1/1000 of a second. You will have to compensate for the loss of light by bumping your ISO most likely. Start there and the images should be relatively sharp!

When zooming, notice a small line on the display between the W and the T, just to the right of centre. That line is the end of optical zoom (34X) which is done by the camera moving the lens. Keep zooming beyond that and you enter digital (fine) zoom, which is basically the same as shooting a regular pic, then cropping out a small part and enlarging it. The quality remains true up to that 34X threshold, then after that, every bit of zoom degrades the picture quality a bit.

Some editing software will reduce image quality for editing but once it is exported it will restore to full resolution.
