A while back Josh said that they would never sell a KlonClone after the original maker started selling them again. So this is an excellent work around from that promise.

I have yet to own any JHS pedals but I love them so much because I love Josh and his love for pedals. I was going to build/buy a whole new pedal board this year, which was going to include a 3 series harmonic trem and octave reverb and a whitey tighty but I had to redirect those funds. Hope I get better luck next year and get to build my dream pedalboard. The Notaklon will certainly be in it!
I just got mine and on 1st impression I am pretty much over the moon with it. Was fun/easy to put together and I am super impressed by the tonal character. It's world's apart from the $40 knock-off I picked up on amazon and now can't wait to try it out at the next band rehearsal. Love the additional gain stage as well. From a practical stand-point, I really don't see why I'd ever really *need* another k-style pedal. As far as I'm concerned JHS knocked it out of the park.
I love that a substantial part of this video is everybody getting distracted about how to pronounce ö! I'm not a native speaker but in other languages (ie: german) it's my understanding that it's pronounced as you would pronounce the 'oeu' in 'hors d'oeuvres'. It's kind of an 'er' sound but not so heavy on the r. Notakloeun!
I'm hungarian and we also have this letter. It is pronounced just as you guys said. I think JHS also meant this as a joke, because at IKEA they name every pice of furniture and they also often use the "ö".
Danish linguist here at your service! In Germanic/Nordic languages (such as Swedish with the IKEA connection), it is not normal to find this "ö" vowel as a dipthong (a single syllable with multiple vowel sounds such as you describe). Instead, it would be pronounced as a single vowel that is not present in English but pretty close to the 'scwha'. That is the centralised vowel you will know from unstressed syllables in all multisyllabic words in English with examples being: gree, bligation, hauntd, holday - note how it is not really associated with a vowel letter as much as its function within the context of a word or sentence. The best practice for pronouncing it for a native English speaker would therefore start with leaving the -syllable unstressed. That will get you halfway there simply based on the pronunciation norms already present in English. Rock on, @RhettShull , and have a lovely day :)
I’ll bet Josh is just-a-howling watching the You Tubers putting together the kit. That said I did buy a couple kits as Christmas presents😀. It sounds good to me.
My wife is Swedish, and she very much appreciates you for understanding the ö isn't just an O sound. It's more of a "uh" sound to us southern americans. Like, that Muhtley Crye band.
So in ikea-lish (swedish) it's more like a kl-un .. like an un-klon? or "not a clue.n.." :-D I think german context is different.. for example the word schön (meaning beautiful) is pronounced like show-n.. ? ( meh.. whatever.. its all fun :-) )
If you want to solder a kit, I love my Catalinbread Knight School Fuzz. It’s a Jordan Bosstone topology that’s stable enough to go after a buffer like a Big Muff or OpAmp circuit. It’s friggin amazing. Not sure if they still have the kits, but I love mine. It’s nice because it’s not just a PedalPCB or StewMac clone kit. It’s like this where it’s based on a well known circuit and has extra engineering I couldn’t do myself… at least not nearly as well. My experience with that made me order this right away. I wish I had to do some TTH soldering, but the goop and ikea aesthetic make up for it.
Hey Art! I think I want to order the pedal. Can you explain in a little more detail what the gain knob mod is and how to do it? Do you need another pot? Thanks so much for your help 🙂
@@treblechef86 I know those kits well! I've built over a dozen pedals from a few sources, including StewMac. But I'll have to do this one too, even if I dont get that lead solder high.
Ingvar Kamprad were the man behind IKEA. The year 1951 might not be correct. He started the company in the late 40s and opened his first store in the beginning of the 50s.
Recommended playback at 1.75 speed. Takes about the amount of time a normal person would take to build that way. Harsh on Rhett but you know I'm right.
Ö is spelled basically like u in furniture or further, but more forward in the mouth with more closed and rounded lips. Those little differences in spelling are equivalent to how different a guitar tone can appear by even slightest variating how und where I pick a string on guitar. Saxophones are even closer to that, 1:1 with invinite variations from mouth 2 sound.
I am howling at the "more gain" tweak. If you put extra Goop in there, it also gives it more toan. And I have some land in Florida for sale, if anyone is interested in a bargain.

O with an umlaut in Swedish is pronounced the same as the vowel sound in "girl", "bird", "learn" etc*... Metal umlauts have occasionally inadvertently screwed up band names in Sweden. I.E. the band Trojan used an umlaut which made their bandname "Tröjan" - Swedish for "The sweater". Not quite as cool. *Probably already somewhere in the comments but I don't have the time to look for it.
Funny how nobody gets the two dots over the "O" are just a tribute to the Ikea names. It's a Not a Klon! Fast forward 10 days, and JHS is sold out and on back orders already!
Oh, no Rhett! Ouch! Step 1 should have been: put on an anti-static wrist strap! Anytime you see a Mylar or translucent pink packaging for electronics, it's advised, especially with FET circuits, or Digital Chips. Of course, this seems to get worse with drier climate or when the heat's on in Winter. Also, I would be careful where you spread that Goop! Not all adhesives / Silicone-like chemicals are non-conductive. We at Symetrix had to switch to 100% pure Silicone RTV for attachment of Voltage Regulators' Heatsinks to a Motherboard once, because there was enough conductivity in similar looking Silicone Caulk to cause bizarre fluctuating Current Leakage (resistive short-circuits).
Huh. I live on Bainbridge - are you here too? I used to own a Symetrix compressor. And I worked with Mike Wall at MS. Google my studio if you wanna swing by sometime. The Brickyard Studio.
Sorry to be a language nerd, but the two dots are called an "umlaut" (German word) in German and are like an accent that affects the pronunciation of "o"s and "u"s. Swedish however has a 29 letter alphabet with three extra letters : ö, ü, and å. The effect is the same and "ö" would be pronounced like the "u" in "pure" but don't say the "r". Anyway it's just a joke to make the whole thing look more IKEA. I think it's very funny, as Josh Scott has a wonderful sense of humour, and this pedal is fantastic-sounding to boot, and I have ordered one. Rhett, you must be so used to high end gear that you didn't seem to get blown away by the sound of the pedal, but I did.

Genius idea. The JHS video was fun. Those kids are adorable. Guaranteed we will see more of these kits.
In every Notaklon video I've watched, they all have an extra washer. It's there to help maximize the IKEA experience.
