this is the most fun concept for a build-it-yourself pedal i've ever seen. i love the little snap-off wrenches, the ikea lookalike packaging, and of course, the all-important tube of GOOP.
Not much of a consolation but I ordered mine December 16th hoping I can have it for the Christmas or New Year's holiday I actually received it yesterday so I guess it's a Memorial Day present, only I've never served in the army and I'm still alive, go figure! 🤔
Video was well narrated and made assembly easy. Reading instructions was unnecessary. My unit had caps on the sockets that I removed before the ribbon cable was plugged in. Also I accidentally spun (raising) the nut at the base of the footswitch so I had to tighten (lower) nut to align the jack nuts. This kit was fun and pure marketing genius. Thanks for reissuing your Klon clone.
Bravo for all the cleverness that went into this kit - the idea, the electronic design, the product packaging and graphic design, everything. You folks at JHS are impressive!
This is, without a doubt, the most fun I’ve had with a pedal and I haven’t even plugged it in yet. I’m still waiting for the “GOOP” to dry. Nicely done JHS team!
Don't need this, don't care, joined the wait-list anyhow. Way too brilliant to pass over. REALLY hoping this is the first of an entire series of simple DIY pedals. Definitely need some fuzz and modulation to mate with it. Seriously I could not love this concept and execution more. Hat's off to the JHS team. I'm in marketing, and this blew me away.
I can't stop laughing and smiling - what a brilliant idea. Josh is a complete genius - choosing a subject that is associated with snake oil, fairy dust and unicorns (actually centaurs). Turning the myth into an IKEA style DIY packaged product for everyone to enjoy is absolutely hilarious. Best thing is : it sounds like a $6000 Klon. 😎
Got mine today. Built it according to this tutorial ….. did it in about 15 minutes. Looks and sounds great. This is the best and most creative marketing campaign of 2023 !
Yet it is hardly a kit. it is more like simple assembly. there is nothing to 'build' really. just assemble into the enclosure.... a finishing step not a construction step.
Notaklon #14323 is assembled and ready for duty!!! Only my rig is at the venue. Just means I'm going up early to integrate this beauty into my board. This makes JHS number 3 on my board as permanent residents. Thank you guys so very very much!!!!!!!
Another super video on this pedal. Just perfect. If there are other classic, discontinued pedals from the annals of JHS history, you might consider this same solder-free build paradigm as a way of getting some of those pedals you keep getting questions about reissued but without the massive overload on your staff. Well done, gang!
Brilliant idea and execution. I hope you guys are patting yourselves on the back for this one. Not only is it a stellar design but all your history with the Klon really makes this a great tongue-in-cheek.
My kids don't play guitar (yet?), but I am 100% going to buy them a NOTAKLON for the holidays just so they can go through the build! This is just the best.
I've never been so excited about a pedal before! Super approachable and from what I've heard sounds so good. Love the feeling of ownership you have with it too. I would seriously buy a few of these types of kits from JHS if they continued making them!
I think it is totally awesome that you guys come out with this product. I can’t wait to get it for Christmas and build it. You guys are one of my favorite. No I take that back you guys are my favorite pedal building company much love and oh yeah seeing you guys his kids was just adorable. My 11 year old daughter thought it was awesome.
A super faithful Klon clone one can assemble themselves that costs 99$? I am getting one! You should make a series of those pedals Josh! It is the best idea ever! We love you!
Bought a stewmac ghost drive kit, which I haven't even started yet and was thinking I should have bought 2. Well when I saw this it was a no brainer. With an electronics background I always loved building electronics projects., whether from scratch or kits!
I'm #2114. I was going to write it on the back panel as a serial number of sorts. With 3k sold at $99 each, Josh can buy himself a nice used Camry for Xmas now. Happy Holidays!
I bought two because I just want to support a fantastic team of people who continue to make the community fun and interesting.... and so my 6yo can do one along side me.
The do it yourself Notaklon was the perfect way to approach a JHS take on the Klon; this could be the start of something great! Now if only you guys could do a "build your own photocell Univibe" kit 😏
Just slapped my Blackout version together, and I hafta say…hats off. Fun bit of final assembly and the pedal sounds damned good. I have another fancy pants clone with “magic” diodes that sounds meh. This pedal sounds shockingly better. I “get” the whole schtick now. Also, Josh isn’t wrong about this circuit being a fine clean boost but more fun actually used as an OD. Good work, JHS.
Just finished putting mine together. I love this idea! Can't wait to try it out after the majik has transferred from the diodes to the goop overnight Edit- seriously awesome design with the wrenches...and really the thought behind the whole project. Great job all 🤙🤙🤙
Not a breach of copyright until you build it? Not a Warm Audio product until you build it? - did they go too far? Seventy percent says no one cares. Good thing they did that survey.
I watched Rhett build his yesterday and now I just watched your tutorial because JHS is just so entertaining. ( I also watched the video with the kids) I'd love to see how people finish the cases. Maybe some sort of contest ???
no tengo un NOTAKLÖN aún pero de verdad disfruté ver el video/// I do not have a NOTACLÖN yet but i really enjoyed to see this video. greetings from México!
Any tips on doing a custom paint job? Can I spray paint over the enclosure or should I sand it first? Also would be a fun idea to sell accessories. Like custom color enclosures with sticker graphics :P
Pretty cool. It lets the less DIY inclined people still get to build something and get the DIY feeling except at the end they'll get to play the thing instead of spending time troubleshooting hahah.
I got my NotAKlon today but it was missing the foot switch nut. I did have an extra pot nut and backing screw. I sent support an email to see if I can get a new one or if someone can tell me where to get a new one. It can't be that expensive. Bummed. I want to fire it up but do not want to break the PC board without the foot switch locked down.
I dont even have one of these, why am I here
And I watched the entire thing.
@@deaconkonc4720I watched it twice…and yep! Don’t own one (yet).
This is the fourth video of these that I’ve watched! I don’t even own one…
Because you’re a bot.
+1
As an electronics designer: those PCB wrenches are so clever! :D
Goes to show how cheap FR4 has become if they can waste valuable board real estate with such discardable items.
As a non-electronics designer those little wrenches are pretty clever
As a mechanical design engineer those little wrenches are pretty clever
this is the most fun concept for a build-it-yourself pedal i've ever seen. i love the little snap-off wrenches, the ikea lookalike packaging, and of course, the all-important tube of GOOP.
It would have been extra funny if they'd called it GOÖP

I VERY heavily implied that my family should get me this for the holidays.

I love the idea!

Would totally love a whole line of DIY pedals!
Please look at what DIY means. This os not DIY. It's final montage at factory's one of last stages of production. Unqualified labor there. Cheap ones.

They're good at ripping off other people's work and passing it off to their cult base.
This is, without a doubt, the most fun I’ve had with a pedal and I haven’t even plugged it in yet. I’m still waiting for the “GOOP” to dry. Nicely done JHS team!
woah nice!! thank you!

Yea, me too. I really don’t need one, and yet here I am waiting for the February shipment 😂

Building mine “Right Now!” - Love this!
This is a master class in packaging and design and execution
The ikea looking centaur in the instruction booklet sold me. I literally couldn’t order it fast enough bc I love everything about this so much
Yet it is hardly a kit. it is more like simple assembly. there is nothing to 'build' really. just assemble into the enclosure.... a finishing step not a construction step.
I finally got mine today. I plugged it in and I've been playing through it for hours. Best 99 bucks I ever spent.

the fact that it's so easy to put together AND solderless sold me on this
You guys are my favourite company ever.
I hope IKEA don’t sue. And if they do, I hope you win. And if you don’t, I hope you will regret nothing.
Well, there you go! I'm now ready to go work at JHS.
I just built mine. Yay! I’m now a boutique pedal builder.
well done

May be for the v.2 you can add a 9v plug for a 9v battery
“Make sure you don’t miss the one on the back of the jack board, it’s pretty sneaky.”
This gave me asmr tingle wingles
This is spectacular marketing!
I just finished putting my kit together, it sounds great, and it was fun! Thank you so much!
I love the IKEA design pedal case.
I already have a Klon copy but I want to get one just so I can build it after painting it in some crazy psychedelic pattern.
as someone who broke a boost pedal kit while building it (there wasn't even an LED or wall power supply.) this is the kind of kit for me!
This is absolutely amazing! Nice job!

I love the IKEA theme! Those PCB wrenches such a great idea too.
As a kid, I hated the car models that required glue, and loved the snap together models. This is like being a kid again 😊
Man That is so Clever!
Those PCB-wrenches are a cool idea
Genius, just... genius !
Josh is a GENIUS!
since the sticker says "Built in Kansas City USA" should you still apply it if you build your Notaklön somewhere else
no. applying that sticker if you don't live in kansas city is ILLEGAL and you will be arrested.
Brilliant. Good luck with it!

This. Is. Really. Cool. PS Love that IKEA Centaur guy on the manual page :D
One part isn't clear clear to me. The four screws on the back. Am I suppose to not over-tighten those also?
Yes! I received my Notaklon!
I did it everybody I built my notaklon, and now I play guitar like michael jordan! 😊
This is so dang fun!

The IKEA likeness is hilarious! 😁

Throw the "instructions manual" right in the trash. Best advice ever! Good products don't need instructions... ;-)
Is the goop NOS or just generic goop? I have to know this😏
This is fantastic!
I'm waiting for the g2 Cornish version!!!...Nice Job !!!:)
I hope you plan on making a whole lot more of these since the first batch sold out in just a few hours.
Will these be available on Amazon anytime soon? 👀
Josh! What are your thoughts on BYOC? Are they legit?
I guess I will be doing this sometime in February.
I HAVE THE BOX!!

Saved to “Watch Later.” I’m sure it will be shipped soon, right?
