OOPS reupload because the first time I accidentally left 'audio' unchecked on premiere. Also! Note that those screws on the pocket voltex's knobs aren't supposed to be there, they're supposed to be using grub screws like the pico voltex. But during the 2018 batch, the manufacturer didn't add grub screws for all of the orders (if I recall correctly) so I bought a long screw to use instead.
Two quick questions: 1. Is sound voltex free & 2. Can you play it without the controller can you just play it on a keyboard Question mark ? Edit: Btw don’t ask why I do ‘Question mark ?’ It’s what I do シ
I'm actually thinking of what the cheapest way to get an analog knob would be, because that way you could just use your keyboard and have the knobs near your keyboard, so like a ghetto version of a Sound Voltex controller. That's really what makes this game have odd/difficult-to-aquire controls. Really, mainly I'm looking into analog knob controllers to play retro games with; I forgot this game uses those as part of its gameplay. I've already looked at those USB volume controllers and as far as I can tell they are all "digital" (so its like a D-Pad compared to an analog stick) and aren't smooth-feeling like the knob is supposed to be. But there ARE arcade dials that use USB, but they are just bare parts and not an actual controller with a shell. Pretty much the best way would to be to make a dial-box, so basically like a Hitbox but with just a dial and a couple of buttons.
@@Cobalt985 ahhh, thank you for pointing that out actually. I was looking too much at arcade parts like spinners which cost a lot (to be fair, that is because they are big hunks of metal and more accurate; Spintrak does 1200ppr which is needed for a couple of games like arkanoid). but for this game, i bet its fine.
I'm that keyboard & mouse player Lets say it's a living hell I wanna enjoy the normal game real bad but they removed sdvx from my nearest arcade a while agoes
I recently learned you could even play it on a keyboard, and yeah, fun but not as much as the arcade, but the one that has cabs is 2 hours away so I caved and ordered a faucetwo
Honestly I love this. The biggest barrier to entry to sound voltex has always been the expensive controllers (yes I know you can use a keyboard but come on). It has its cons but these cheaper options to at least lower the barrier to entry for new players is amazing and I think is gonna be what finally pushes me to play sound voltex myself. Thanks for the review!
Yeah having a controller gives a better experience. It also gives that arcade feel. We don't have that much rhythm arcades here since there don't sell well and I kinda miss that feeling
Thanks for the detailed comparison to the Pocket Voltex! Speedy has done an excellent job. I'm still alive, and still plan to make more Pocket Voltexes, so hopefully I can fix a lot of those issues :)
Ive been using this controller for over 6 months now, I was an original buyer of prototype and current versions! I love this controller and after 6 months it is still perfectly fine! Also a great way to prevent the sliding of the controller is to use some magnets under your mouse pad, then just put the other connecting magnets on the feet of the controller! :D
I never thought Jolene would make a review for this, it's honestly a dream come true cause I have been asking dozens of questions In the discord and having very broad answers, tysm for this video it was very helpful
well I think you've already said this in the video but my personal thought / experience about this is you can just buy a cheap controller with a few more dollars and the knobs were missing a lot even though I spent weeks to get used to it. portability and minimized noise are what makes this thing a very good option, but for those who already have the normal controller or capable of having them, I'll answer them with this 🤔
I think for the average person, the size makes it difficult to play as well. I got to play with a pocket voltex and I had a hard time since my muscle memory was for arcade controller dimensions. My hands were clumsily smacking each other on more difficult charts.
I actually noticed the knobs dropping missing slams or dropping lasers too, I think it's because the knobs have zero deadzone unlike faucetwo or sound voltex cabs, so you have to spin them later. overall for muscle memory it's not good because it's small but just for something people who rather smaller stuff that's cheaper without realising that an actual controller is ultimately better
@@tokaku I noticed this with my pico voltex on USC. there is a separate laser offset adjustment in the settings, which I set differently than my button offset, until the laser timing felt much much better and what I was used to from the arcade. And the amount of lasers/slams dropped decreased significantly for me. It's now awesome to learn/recognize difficult patters at home with pico voltex, then do the real thing on an arcade machine after.
I've been looking for affordable sdvx controllers forever and this is perfect! I've always been interested in sdvx so this is the perfect controller to get, thanks!
let's goooo tokaku actually finally able to easily hit bt-a, b, and c wwww but ngl it's so cute i wanna use this to play on stream so my parents won't complain about how loud the actual controller is wwww
I had one of these and loved it. I need to pick up another one in the future. (I had to move and needed to sell it for cash at the time. Nothing wrong with the controller or support.)
me, a custum keyboard enthusiast: oh, I wanna mod this thing so bad. foam, lubed switches, a custom machined brass weight for the back. this is like a dream for me
I might get this as an overall rhythm game controller. As much as I love sound voltex and want to get a legit controller, I think this would be a decent way to try charts out before playing them on arcade! Also I love etterna, or 4K in general sooooooo
The controller looks neat, but at that price point, I would say it's probably just more worth to shell out the extra $100 for a full size controller unless you just really want a more portable controller
Anyone that has the capability to DIY I would highly recommend mon's PocketVoltex. It is completely open sources where you can get all the CAD and Gerber files for the case and PCB, which will bring down the total cost by a lot. For those who just want to get a Pocket controller, the price for Pico Voltex isn't too bad, but if you are totally new to SDVX you might as well consider to get a full size controller for a little more money (like yuancon cheapest one cost USD130).
I might grab one of these next time they're in stock. Having to bus like 90 minutes to play sdvx at my nearest arcade is annoying so being able to play at home without spending a ton on a controller would be great
Might be unrelated, but where is the arcade shown in 0:10? great review btw, i've been meaning to buy a controller for SDVX but im not sure what to get with how many options there are available
I still have my Pocket Voltex Rev4 from ages ago, and I still love it, though it's gotten very little use. I think the keys sound a little bit louder on the Pico, and I wonder if that's the keycaps being a little bit thinner plastic. Maybe some thick PBT or the 1.25u G20s could be quieter?
Get some decent tactiles like u4t boba, lube them with 3203, slap on some gmk keycaps and it'll sound and feel great. Even if you don't want to shell out the money on a full gmk set you can probably get the 7 keycaps for cheap on mechmarket.
back in december when i was in the market for a cheaper controller for sdvx i was heavily considering this controller, still ended up getting the yuancon sdvx lite since the arcade size was just too big of a tradeoff
Okay I'm definitely getting one of these. I just got 380€ and already spent 35€ on a CTH 480 (yes I found one that cheap in perfect condition) And ≈60€ on manga. So that leaves me with ≈ 300€ which is perfect since I wanna get this!! :D Also ignore the math I was just doing that for me lmao.
i need an answer, was the c stock really 80 bucks ? did someone got it ? cause I'm thinking getting it on kit edit : I got two on kits and will print the backboard
Super cool looking controller, would you say the 60ish dollar saving is enough to choose this over something like a Faucetwo? also do you think the muscle memory from using a smaller controller could backfire when going back to a cabinet?
it'll completely backfire on you. An arcade accurate controller is a better option. But for most people in the world they'll never get a chance to go to the arcade unless they buy a controller. The best way I can put this controller is a fun 'I want a quick session' or a gateway drug
Guys there is actually a hidden function for this controller. It is very helpful and you can actually perform better. For more information search up boku no pico
I don't get paid for reviews. I get offered sometimes but I turn those down anyway because I don't want the video to end up biased instead of honest or something
There's a PC version that you pay a subscription for. No app. Other methods are playing emulators like USC or K-Shootmania also on PC. Lastly is your local rhythm game arcade and Round 1s across US and Japan.
Maybe i should actually Focus on actual features in my fork of the firmware. Nearly everyone mentions the con not saving the mode... Thing im wondering about, would people actually want and use it? On the other hand i was messing around and created a hard coded rickroll for my friend...
I kinda wanna get this even tho I have a gen2 yuancon. Lugging that thing around to play kinda sucks. Plus I'm getting nostalgic for keyboard rhythm games again and maybe using this will help lessen the skill decay
I have been struggling on getting an sdbx controller mostly because I couldn't find the right materials to buy parts for it, or because that they were ridiculously expensive moreover considering the conversation rate from USD to IDR (my currency) This honestly might be a good buy

this is a pretty cool video despite the fact i never played sound voltex before

YESSS. i saw this on ur twitch yesterday and got so excited for the review

been wanting to buy this mini sdvx controller ever since i saw it on neardayo’s channel !!
I been using one of these for a few months and I love it. Definitely worth.
6:03 We Could Get More Pocket Voltex Keyboard Switches! (and more Pocket Voltex controllers)
Your hands playing that track was mesmerizing
the gameplay part is sooo satisfying to watch! love your vids
Finally time that you reviewed this thing. I still will buy a full sized one but I wanted to see what this one was about!
thx for showing this to me im using this as a gateway drug to svdx
OMG YESSS!!!!, This is what I've been Waiting for!

Oh wow I’m surprised to see this controller here! I have one from when he was beta testing it 😀
Holy shit accessible sound voltex, doing god's work out here
I've got one, it's pretty good but if you live outside the use prepare to be shafted by shipping costs (40USD to ship to Australia)
So, we arent gonna talk about those gateron optical yellow switches?
hi toku i love ur content

Hey jo! If you taped some ND magnets to the bottom(underside) of your desk and glued some to the feet of the pico I bet it wouldn’t move as much :)
thanks for the info!
It's perfect for the Steam Deck & portable Sound Voltex
This video, and this controller being sold out is what convinced me to not cheap out on anything and get a faucetwo
I was on stream and it was fun and you forgot to have lunch with tzechi xd
Is there a place to get single 2.25u keycaps? Or just gotta scrap em from an existing keycap set?
What sensitivity settings do the knobs have on USC? (Number)
And sold out. Fantastic.
Would love to have something like this for IIDX...
I think I'll buy one since this seems good and I want to support open source controllers.
Okay I'm definitely getting one of these.

very cool PCB
you can probably lube the stabilizers to help with how loud and rattly it sounds.
would be sick to get one of these someday, keyboard sdvx getting a bit unplayable above 16 charts lol
As a person with big hands i can safely say that this controller is recommended for those who have small hands and want to get into sdvx
You think it's possible to map keys for other rhythm games?? (ie: Groove Coaster or Project Diva)
The underlying theme in all of your videos is that you don't get paid to review stuff, which is a shame really.
This is nice for me since big buttons are scary for me for rhythm games, I never played SV officially( roblox version)
this is really good
How can I make my own keyboard specifically for Stepmania?
