  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Sahar sits on the Entrepreneurs Panel for the government and was voted one of the 10 most influential thinkers in the UK alongside Sir Tim Berners Lee, Sahar is also a fantastic speaker and we can’t wait for you to hear her.
Sahar Hashemi brought the coffee cafe culture to the UK in the 90′s with her chain Coffee Republic.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I am thinking about a new type of restaurants : eating-spots,
in eating-spots, food keeps changing, chefs also rotate,
this is opposed to current restaurants,
thanks to this rotation of food and chefs, eating-spots are way more powerful than restaurants,
along with that, there is an app,
people vote for the food that will be cooked in the next days,
menu is influenced by the live input of the people via an app

Agree 100%. We forget that the school system that inculcates the culture of being an employee, was conceptualised by wealthy industrialists with government. Their aim was to create a never ending supply of workers, not entrepreneurs. This is the reason why we think entrepreneurs are special people - they are simply people who dared to want something different to what has been prescribed for them.

In New Zealand the high schools run a programme to encourage entrepreneurship. Teams of kids are mentored by volunteer business people to develop a product or service and develop it as a business - it's good learning for them. And a few of these actually turn into real businesses or products!

      - Sound of reason vs sound of fear
      - don't worry about not knowing
      - no point having ideas on head, start putting it on paper
      - business plan- what to do, how to do, how much and with whom and where
      - 40 rejections
      - entrepreneurs= obstacles course
      - anyone can do it
      - you become when you start
      - there is an entrepreneur within, it's just about bringing it out
      - lazy ppl cannot become entrepreneurs
      - 5 steps: idea- find something you love, market research- do your business plan be organised, raise money, making it happen- bootstrapping, self belief, don't give up- there is no overnight success,
      - find the star within you
      - combine what you do with who you are
      - difficult but happy

This was directed to me. As a recent graduate, I have started my 9- 5 job. Growing up, I always spot gaps in the market or problems that need solutions where I go. I started walking around/ tagging my small notebook wherever I go and write my business ideas. I have so many of them and wish to start. The only challenge is lack of capital. I am now trying to save up from 9- 5 to to open implement one of my smallest business that I can afford.

I love what she said about the business plan. I went through the exact thought process as her -- exactly the same. But in the end, I trusted myself because I knew the market, I like what I do, and I just answered one question at a time. Business plans can be just a plain A4 paper with the ugliest handwritings & drawings... But it cements your ideas and you can visualise your goal. I'm so happy to watch this video because it's 100% true, no BS.
