You two sitting in the badly adjusted seats, driving a car with no windshield instantly made me think you were Steve Martin and John Candy in Planes, Trains and Automobiles!
Not to mention the glass shards blowing around, and not even knowing if the brakes are going to stop the car.. Looks more like a... "Hold My Beer" moment. Lol
No one wants to watch videos of cars being parted out that's why channels like JJ auto wrecking has few views/subscribers etc and they are the biggest in a niche no one cares about.
You all should drive the Corvette to the Bowling Green Kentucky Corvette Museum and park on the grass out front!! "Hey man, I need some parts, you got some?!" LOL
It's certainlhy makes a nice sound! Watching you during those frosty pulls reminded me of that old "blown away" Maxell tape commercial with the guy sitting in front of a JBL L100 speaker.
While you’re waiting to have the transmission rebuilt, you can double-clutch into the gears with the bad synchros. Depress the clutch- shift into neutral- release the clutch- depress the clutch- shift into the next gear.
You don’t need the special hud windshield to see the hud . I had a 2001 z06 that didn’t come with a hud and installed a hud with the non hud windshield that came with the car and it was fine. Lots of guys with c5 s that did not come with hud installed hud with the non hud windshield and it was fine. Good luck
It's really up to the individual as to how much a blurry image bothers them. If you look at your display close, you will notice two slightly offset images. That is the difference in the special windshield. On a normal one the inside and outside of the glass are relatively parallel resulting in offset images. The special ones focus it to one image. Now if it is worth the difference in cost for most people? I would guess probably not. I believe the magnitude of offset can vary with the shape of the windshield, so some cars may be worse than others. I have a HUD in a 2000 SSEi. I broke my HUD windshield, ironically removing the HUD module. :-) I thought I had glass coverage, but I didn't so I ended up using a spare non HUD windshield that I had laying around and was saving. The difference is quite noticeable. It is usable as you can make out the speed well enough and that is all I really want it for. The smaller icons are a bit blurry though. I would prefer a HUD windshield, but that will have to wait until it breaks again as I have glass coverage on it now.
What is it about the roar of an engine that makes a grown man smile and scream like a child in a candy store? I really don’t know, but I absolutely love it.🎉
Used retail price for a 2002 Z-06; $16,600 - $21,600 So at 4 grand JR got a great deal. Window glass; $1000, Seats; $500, Tune; $250. So with a total of $1750.00 he'll have a running and driving Corvette, seems like a killer deal to me.
The whole interior is garbage, tho. As is the bodywork and paint. And with 12 owners, the engine and tranny and brakes are super abused. That thing has been launched hundreds of times, no doubt. It's a dead man walking.
Even with a good used interior from an junked Corvette, say 750 bucks, he's still under 7,000 dollars compared to a good used Z06 at 16000 dollars. @@TheJohn8765
Those are easy to bypass. You can find a chart online with the 15 different values of resistance. Then get a potentiometer and an ohmmeter and try each value. Have to wait 10 minutes between each try. When you find the value, solder in a fixed resistor. I have done this on a GM TPI swap.
I’m reposting this comment in hopes that you’ll see it, JR. There’s a work-around for bad synchros. I know it works because I’ve used it myself before. When shifting into the gears with bad synchros here’s what you do…. Depress the clutch- shift from prior gear into neutral- release the clutch- depress the clutch again- shift into gear with bad synchros- release the clutch. Doing this helps the gears mesh better, prevents grinding and with practice, you’ll get damn quick at it. I know I did. I had an 88 Mustang LX 5.0 SSP. A friend of mine had one before me and after me and all 3 cars had bad 2nd gear synchros. I learned double-clutching from my friend.
It looked like the idle issue healed itself based on the last start just before the end. I'd think 950 rpm would be an okay idle for a manual car. Perhaps a smidge high.
That thing sounds great! Looks like it would be a fun cheap hotrod after fixing all of the little issues, glass, seats, lights, headliner, tune, clean it up inside and out.
Educational and entertaining. All said, the car hobby is a leap of faith. Believing it can be done. What a tangled web of BS to climb through the steps of getting the PCM to talk to the key and get it it to fire. This thing with some paint correction, glass and rebuilt trans would be the perfect track rat. Beat the hell out of it at the track until it breaks, fix it and beat it some more.
Save the car for when you don't have any other content you see you can always bring this back up and do something on it and we're going to watch it and we're going to be really cool about it because as you improve this car we is your followers are you know we're going to feel like we're part of this you know make us part of this As you move forward with this project just invite us along
It's time to look at the Gt8 by DDR motorsports. You can use that car to build one. They might even make you a deal if you turn it into a build series.
You don't have to use the HUD glass. I've installed HUD in 2 early 2001 z06s that never had it and it works fine without the special glass. Can see it in direct sunlight fine. I'm sure it's better with HUD glass but not necessary.
Smiles per mile were amazing, I am sure it was a great feeling getting that started and taking a ride. I hope you build it unless some one gives you an offer now as is.
Great deal JR. Replace the glass, polish the paint, and replace those seats. Not sure about swapping the whole interior or just the buy correct front seats. Sure is loud ! Is the the same model Jake has?
Make it an Eric build!🎉. Also, they make plastic razor blades that work really well for scraping without damaging the finish. Might want to give them a try.
I just have to wonder, at what point in this cars life did it go from being someone dream car, to just getting completely roached? My C5 has nearly double the miles, and is in 'near' mint condition. It has a few paint chips, and the leather looks like you would expect for 200k and 20 years, but it's still my baby.
If I remember correctly for VATS, if you know the resistance value you can just interrupt the VATS wire in the steering column with the same value resistor and bypass it.
@WatchJRGo I might be completely wrong and if so please disregard, maybe someone in the comments might know better. But would you be able to buy some Head up Display film from an aftermarket HUD system and use that instead of getting the OEM windshield from GM to work with the cars HUD system?
A half a dozen repairs and she can run with the big dogs. Where are you going to find a running & driving 2002 Corvette at 4000 dollars? not many places for sure.
Looks like a great candidate for @PowerTour @JohnRoss ??!! lol… How’s the inside of your house going there? We’ve not had an update in quite a while.. Stay blessed brother!!
You two sitting in the badly adjusted seats, driving a car with no windshield instantly made me think you were Steve Martin and John Candy in Planes, Trains and Automobiles!
Sir, do you think this car is safe to be on the road. Yes, yes I do. lol Great movie
Not to mention the glass shards blowing around, and not even knowing if the brakes are going to stop the car.. Looks more like a... "Hold My Beer" moment. Lol
Awesome movie….where are your hands? Between 2 pillows….those aren’t pillows. Hahhahahaaa. Loved it
This car is cooperating so much with you, please save it, dont scrap this one
It Sounds amazing
Yes, please throw 20k into it.
Whatever is gonna make him money. He already said that saving most cars on the channel usually isn’t beneficial
@@vadim7590just needs glass, junkyard seats, and a few minor things. You could have a nice car for less than $2000 more.
Please fix it
Keep going with this one John Ross. This is one of the more interesting builds you’ve worked on lately. Thank you.
It’s in your blood JR. You may still do a little salvage work but you’re back at fixing up hoopties.
Yeah luv this trash content
No one wants to watch videos of cars being parted out that's why channels like JJ auto wrecking has few views/subscribers etc and they are the biggest in a niche no one cares about.
Vandalized Z06 . $4,000
DJs Lock & Keys. $70
First rip in vandalized Z06… PRICELESS!
😂👏💪
You'll just GOT to build this one up, nice & cherry restoration.
Repaint mint blue, coilovers, massive wing. Track weapon
LMAO, no they wont they will just flip it.
Dang… that was FAST! Looking forward to seeing how it’s completely restored.
Holy shoot batman do a wrap on it
Doesn't this just hsve chevys notoriously inefficient and dated 5.7 in it..... slow af
I was smiling the entire time you were driving it. Your enthusiasm is infectious.
You all should drive the Corvette to the Bowling Green Kentucky Corvette Museum and park on the grass out front!! "Hey man, I need some parts, you got some?!" LOL
I didn't realize Mexico got that cold? You did do this test drive in Mexico, right?🤣
Maybe that ground wire on the BCM has something to do with your light problem that would explain why it was there if so
Man, I would have killed to find this deal. Such a fun car to rebuild.
Idk if fun is the word I would use...🤔 maybe interesting...
It's certainlhy makes a nice sound! Watching you during those frosty pulls reminded me of that old "blown away" Maxell tape commercial with the guy sitting in front of a JBL L100 speaker.

@@avioncamper I know I sure do, used to use their cassettes 💯
@avioncamper anyone older than 30 should know it.

Is it live???? Or Memorex??¿?

Like two boys in a candy store. Dad can we keep the puppy? 😂 I love it
The best series in a long time. Save it. I want to see more!!

Too Cool from Central Florida,,way to go,an old Vette owner,,old Wichita guy,,,,

I was crying watching you test drive. 😂. It reminded me of pictures of speed tests on the salt flats.
Great fun.
OMG you just took me back 35 years with that drive. My favorite channel by far
I STILL say that Oreilly's needs to sponsor you as you go there so often giving them free advertisement in your videos lol
For that price and as well as it runs, I agree with eric and you should fix and keep it for a while.

Standard Windshield Glass will work with the Heads Up no problem .I added HUD to a 2002 I had with standard Windshield and it worked fine.

That's so awesome! You're videos are great again! Please save it!
That was one terrific series. Congratulations, Corvette whisperer.
Keep going with it. Resurrect this one.
I had a Pilkington non-HUD windshield in a C5 years ago and it was no issue.
Awe man, that's bad ass. Good find bro. The chick that beat the hell out of that car is fuming right now. Her competition lives on.
JR driving with the lean back seat; priceless !!!
That C5 is so cool please don’t tear it apart and scrap it
Couple of cheap needlenose vice grips do wonders on the side terminal batteries itallows you to jump them really easy
Man - that car sounds MEAN!!
I'll bet you could use one of those stick on display tape stuff from a set of obd2 Chinese gauges to have the HUD work on a standard glass.
That bcm ground wire is probably from the lmc-5 that's looks to be installed.

Personally, I'd have myself one badass track car. For 4 grand, and probably 4 grand more to get it sorted, you'd have one badass ripper
I definitely think its worth saving the car. Fun to watch!

Hey good morning from Philippines here for the winter! What about the ford focus transmission update? Keep up the great job enjoy your vids
Love to see you fix this car.
I have two c5 Z cars, and the windshield cracked on one, and I just had the plain non HUD glass put back in it, and you can still see the HUD perfect.
