Yes the Maserati logo is called the Trident, I said that early on in the video... but everyone makes fun of it and calls it a spork or a fork. (Literally a very common joke) I'm going to make fun of it from now on, life's not that serious 🧐
Good morning and congratulations on your purchase. Remove the trim panel under the glove compartment and there should be a manual release to open. The extra space that is taken up in your Center armrest is because the center armrest is cooled for your drinks and there is a vent switch on the bottom towards the front. The computer system runs a self test upon initial startup and the check engine light stays on for 15 to 20 seconds and that is completely normal on all of these vehicles. Also blue valve covers mean the engine is a 4.2 L red valve covers means that it is a 4.7 L. Top speed on these I believe was 171 mph. Spare tires were an option and if they did not have one they usually had a compressor with a self-sealing foam cartridge.
Because it lacks large touch screens? If something will make an interior look dated in the future it's these (cheap to produce) huge ugly lcd screens most modern cars have to avoid the expense of engineering, wiring and building a cabin full of pricey analog switches, knobs and gauges.
First saw this car on the Fiorano Circuit in late 2006. It was the testing prototype that later debuted at the Geneva Car Show in 2007. I was there as part of a management development program with the thrid partner of Ferrari-Scuderia F1. As part of the leadership week, the company had flown 20 employees in 4 jets to Bologna, followed by bus drive down to Maranello for a day with the F1 Team (Todt, Brawn, etc.). I had two ride-alongs on the track that foggy/rainy day. One in an Enzo and the other in an F360 Challenge Stradale. It was in the later car that we passed another car with black tape covering many of its design elements. A few months later, it would be known as the GranTurismo. Good times. Hard to believe that was about 17 years ago. PS: It's not a fork...it's a TRIDENT!
My wife and son would love to have a car like this - though I don't think they understand that if/when it breaks it would be up to me to fix it or an expensive trip to the shop and could mean long waits for the parts. I'm glad that there are folks out there that appreciate these for what they are and are willing to keep them up / fix them and enjoy them.
First engine mod = Have a look at videos changing the headcam oilfeed plunger near the cams which are narrow. With cold starts, these cams receive too little oil... The mod is to enlarge the oilfeed openings .......
Surprised not many others have said this. The CEL will stay on for 18 seconds after starting, always. No matter if there are codes set or not. -long term quattroporte owner.
Hello JR, That bad boy is dope! 16K for a car that ends in 'I' is just what the doctor ordered. A new set of correct tires (Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS?) will make that car ride totally different. DS18 makes some really nice 6.5" 2 OHM Slim Motorcycle speakers (PRO SM6.2) to replace the old rotten Bose ones. New tweeters, I used some inexpensive JBLs and you will be singing James Corden style!. Bring that factory Bose system to life again. ENJOY!
Back in high school (in the 1970's) one of my best friends bought a 1964 Maserati coupe for $400.00; then spent (well, his dad did) almost $10K to get the transmission fixed. They were able to sell it for what they had in it. My friend then went and bought a new Fiat X19.
I have a 2012 GT convertible, the GranCabrio. Over two years it's been reliable. LIke JR notes, the engine and transmission are pretty bulletproof. The car was dated when it was built, but is just something fun to look at and drive,
I own the same car. It’s weekend car for my wife and I. We’ve done nothing maintenance and enjoy it. Far more reliable then any bmw or Mercedes I’ve owned. Plus nothing looks like it.
Awesome car. Should also try a 4200 / GranSport. They have the same 4.2 litre engine and are smaller and lighter. I have a GranSport and it has been very reliable. I personally love the CambioCorsa gearbox and the sound is epic…particularly the downshifts in sport mode. You will have loads of fun in the Granturismo! Looking forward to more Maserati content
A Bluetooth FM transmitter (Jabra carkit) does the trick for me with an out of date car. Had good experiences piping Spotify or RUclips music direct from phone to the car's stereo system with the Jabra carkit...even supports handsfree phone calls over the sound system.
JR, I absolutely LOVE this car!!!! It sounds so good!!!! Please fix the music in it and the glove box!!!! This Maserati is the best sounding car I have heard in a while!!!! I love the wood grain on the steering wheel too!!!! It is a beautiful car and it sounds amazing!!!! I want more Maseratis on the channel!!!! Thanks for buying it and don’t do anything to the muffler or sound because it sounds amazing!!!! Take care and I absolutely love this car!!!! 👍🏻😃
The damage to the right rear rocker, and the tire cut on the inside - you might want to put it on the alignment rack and check to see if the rear wheel is out of alignment, maybe from an impact.
Please let your Dad drive it! He loved the Jaguar you had and I'm sure this will be much more of a gentleman's cup of tea. "The hard riding hardcore sports cars we all love..."made me think this won't stay long if your Dad doesn't keep it... Fantastic video!
What I find to work really well on sticky trim (that doesn't have print on it) is Sodium Carbonate, which is the main ingredient in many powdered laundry detergents. Mix strong and scrub with a toothbrush. Of course, you'll need to remove the part from the car first.
that car is one of the best designs ever , almost bought one but got a Toyota Avalon instead ,and it happens to be the best car i ever bought in my 55 years of buying automobiles
Maybe not your cup of tea, but JJ Cale's album 5, from 1979 is superb. Track 1 should be "Thirteen Days." Love that track. "Thirteen days with five to go..."
The reason for the gps not working is probably because there is no map-disk inside. I had the same thing on my saab where it would show the compass if the disk was removed
It's not just Ferrari that gets sticky when the plastic breaks down. It happened to my aunt's Fox Body Mustang, my GTI. It happened to older power tools too.
a beautiful and perfectly worked car with an excellent Italian v8 sound....I have never bought the cheapest Maserati or any other car that would be the cheapest. I have never had any problems with Maserati.
lol you should've pissed off all the Porsche purists/enthusiasts by taking Tylers Porsche with the LS. Also this Maserati is still probably better than the one Tavarish drove for Car Trek lol
The CambioCorsa transmissions required a lot of expensive maintenance and should be avoided. Beautiful car that sounds great too. These were selling for about 20k around 2009-2010.
Check engine light always comes on while it does system checks. You do have an aux in, get your glove box open. The word you're looking for is "trident" not sprock or fork. Top speed is 185.
Welcome back from SEMA. Any SEMA content? Nice purchase ! Put the Telsa up for sale and then buy a Maserati. Car looks modern to me , interior is fine, not outdated. In NC Grandma's do not drive M's. They drive Bimmer's, Benz's and the LS 460. Be safe on your trip, hope it does not break down.
Goo Gone or makeup remover wipes will tear through the gummy mess on the buttons with ease. Had a 2012 XKR with all that same crap all over the steering wheel buttons.
I have felt the experience, not easy to fix especially the fuse box that went up in smoke and yes the costs of a Maserati engineer is mega money. So buy expecting pain and sell cheap to get rid of it as it had to go before more money went down the drain....
Is it a Faurerrari if it was made by Ferrari and all parts used to come in Ferrari boxes? In any case, this is hands down one of the prettiest cars on the road.

Why did they name their spork logo after a chewing gum brand? 🤣
"Guido Spork"- because Italians have a sense of humor.
pickel fork!
Fork the haters

It's wild how well the exterior design has held up and how insanely dated that interior looks.
Because it lacks large touch screens? If something will make an interior look dated in the future it's these (cheap to produce) huge ugly lcd screens most modern cars have to avoid the expense of engineering, wiring and building a cabin full of pricey analog switches, knobs and gauges.
@@MarkGelderlandNo, because the placement of the screen, and the fact that it looks like a dash straight out of an '04 E class.
Retro, not dated.

The wiggly crank tool is for moving the power seat if the drive motor shits itself. Nice project JR!!!
For some reason, I read that as "if the DRIVER shits itself". haha
First engine mod = Have a look at videos changing the headcam oilfeed plunger near the cams which are narrow. With cold starts, these cams receive too little oil... The mod is to enlarge the oilfeed openings .......
I'm sure you cringed on the cold rev.
Resonator delete adds a magic burble note, Upgrade the stereo head unit huge difference

That rubbery tool in the tool kit is for urinary tract infections.
😬 sounds painful

If you are still smelling fuel goodness sake check the fuel pump tops - they could have the same issue as the Ferrari fuel pumps with the plastic tops
I'm so f*ing happy you got this! These and the quattroportes are great! Awesome color and exhaust. Best car on the channel since the S type R
I like the look of that Maserati. Was hoping you'd tell us how you fixed all the issues (like the gasoline smell) before you put it back up for sale.
that probably has to do with the charcoal canister. When you over fill the gas some can seep into the charcoal canister and cause that smell issue.
I haven't even started working on it, parts are on the way 🍻
Always liked the exteriors on these
Ya boy John Ross hopped back in the car game swinging with the Maserati... 💪😎
I always loved the way these things look. It's pretty timeless.
If you plan on keeping it I recommend doing the cam camp modification to save your variators
Sweet car John. Definitely sounds awesome!
I remember a "mission" in Driver SF had this car... And it definitely made that entire sequence of events rather enjoyable to play.
the sound is epic!! I wonder if its got a tune. Cant wait to see how it runs when all the codes fixed.
The S button should open the flaps up in the exhaust system, my brother has the same car. He’s looking into upgrading his stereo for an info system.
You can open the glovbox, it should have a red string coming down at the back, look for it.

Kool, gotta get your dad in there. I always enjoy seeing him and hearing his comments.
It's called a Trident. Neptune was the inspiration for the Maserati Symbol. The Statue of Neptune in Balogna,Italy to be exact.
It's a joke, everyone calls it a spork... 🤷♂️
The damage to the right rear rocker, and the tire cut on the inside - you might want to put it on the alignment rack and check to see if the rear wheel is out of alignment, maybe from an impact.
its all about the looks and the experience of driving it -- love it
I love my 2018 GT! How do I know what transmission is in it? I'm guessing based on the video but Im going to bet you have a stock exhaust.
Thanks for the excellent video and again I absolutely LOVE this car!!!! Take care and have a wonderful night and week!!!! 👍🏻😃

there are replacement and a/c and radio/nav head units out there, including the Tesla-sized, that aren't that expensive and do improve the interior.
It's so wonderful that this is a car channel again.
Maybe not your cup of tea, but JJ Cale's album 5, from 1979 is superb. Track 1 should be "Thirteen Days." Love that track. "Thirteen days with five to go..."

Anything with softtouch plastic is a ticking time bomb.
Hopefully the fuel smell is just a clogged fuel tank breather system, it's the right age/generation for that sort of thing.
The fender vents may not do anything, but at least they’re actual openings in the fender. Unlike the Walmart stick on vents Buick insists on applying.
I don’t think they look good but Buick does it as a nod to their original side exhaust.
@@johnf8877 On the Lucerns you could tell if they were a v8 or v6 by how many vents were on the fender. 3 for v6 and 4 for v8.
What’s the difference? If they don’t do anything they’re just as pointless imo
@@PaintGuy I just put that out there so I could get your insightful opinion.
@@marcmo7138That’s great but I’m replying to OP not you 🤷🏽♂️
You are the man to perfect such a car. I love those Maserati's.
The problem with the charcoal canister probably explains the fuel smell.
They are very nice looking cars.
When you see Maserati in the title, you know there are is going to be plenty of content made.
Buy a 968 for plazooa next year.
I did pay 16k for a 2011 GranTurismo S last month 🤔 maybe I have the cheapest clean title running with 0 issue Maserati in the country
a beautiful and perfectly worked car with an excellent Italian v8 sound....I have never bought the cheapest Maserati or any other car that would be the cheapest. I have never had any problems with Maserati.
On today's video Johnny Ross flexes his Maserati with "sticky buttons" 😂😂😂
Truly a beautiful car, I hope we see you working on it.
Not sure if 6 secs has been considered quick for a long time. The Nissan 350Z did 0 to 60 in 5.2 in 2002.
In the beginning you said the car wreaked of gas but you never talked about it again Was there an issue?
Did you consider doing a radio Swap?
Mom, why is this RUclipsr flexing his pre-owned Maserati on me? 😂😂😂
Tyler must have been too busy with April and you beat him to the dealership. 😅
Love that car and it sounds amazing. If you can sort out the gas smell and possibly get a new head unit, I’d drive that thing every day.
Back to your roots I see, another cool project we can follow along with 😎
Easy Off Oven Cleaner! Best thing to fix the sticky buttons, I've fixed many exotics with this method. Give it a shot JR!
Anyone else remember when JR used to fix cars? Ahhhh those were the days.😊
He is HoovieJr. now
Also when he used to work on cars and not houses?
john rob
As a dealer in ATL that dealer got the best of got you. Those with that many issues struggles sell for $10k-14k
You should try to install a Uconnect system that would be kind of cool to see a video on that 21:11
lol you should've pissed off all the Porsche purists/enthusiasts by taking Tylers Porsche with the LS. Also this Maserati is still probably better than the one Tavarish drove for Car Trek lol
Always wanted to get one of these. Prices are decent too, just dread the Italian engineering😵💫
This radio is a rebranded Peugeot RT3. There are adapter for the CD changer to delet it and add Bluetooth, Aux and USB.
Radio should have Ted Nugent 'Wango Tango" pre installed.
The CambioCorsa transmissions required a lot of expensive maintenance and should be avoided. Beautiful car that sounds great too. These were selling for about 20k around 2009-2010.

This is already a classic, she looks beautiful and deserves a loving owner. It might not be a supercar, but it is a nice daily and weekend cruiser.
Maseratis always have the check engine light stay on for a long time after start. Hoovie talked about that in his video with his Quattroporte.
It's a system's check protocol. It stays on for 18 seconds. Ferrari late models did the same thing.

People don’t really watch SEMA videos so I didn’t shoot a single thing, just hung out and said hi to everyone 🍻
JR, believe it or not the CEL is a factory thing to stay on that long. Weird right?
The boat man back to cars! Love it.
I'm not sure how reliable this purchase will be, but I'll bet it's content gold.
Remember in the old days when you just used to fix cars. How your channel has grown
Should have left the NOT FOR SALE sticker on it. 😂
i thought one of the functions of the sport button was to open the exhaust to make louder ? or is that just the Quattropporte ?
Love these. I think the design is timeless. Would love to own one of these for a bit
If you were going to keep it I’d say look into upgrading entertainment system to a 2018. We all know it’s going to a new home though.
Was it really 73 degrees in Kansas yesterday???
Lol that audio in the beginning is also used on the Shop Sounds podcast.
Do a POV ripping it to redline through the gears with the paddles!
Goo Gone or makeup remover wipes will tear through the gummy mess on the buttons with ease. Had a 2012 XKR with all that same crap all over the steering wheel buttons.

@WatchJRGo Did I see that there was a verticle SD card slot to the far right of the menu and mode buttons?

The Maserati V8 sounds intoxicating compared to the flat plane crank boat sounding V8.
9:00 fuel door size is a bit of competition between the Maserati and the new Nissan Z! 😂
True that, I forgot the Z is gigantic too 😳
Is it a Faurerrari if it was made by Ferrari and all parts used to come in Ferrari boxes? In any case, this is hands down one of the prettiest cars on the road.
I love the Italian leather smell. I owned a 2010. Awesome car.
The Maserati emblem is the sea-god Neptune's three pronged spear, a trident, not a 'fork'. A weapon, not an eating implement.
Dude. Everyone knows that. it was a common joke to call it the spork
Yes I called it the trident in the first 2 minutes…. From now on it’s the spork, don’t take life so seriously 😂
Could you put a flat plank cam in it?
I haven’t looked into it yet but it would be a huge undertaking! 💯
