Are Native Instruments Pianos a buy in 2023? (Gentleman, Grandeur, Maverick, Alicia Keys, UnaCorda)

    Gentleman is definitely one of my favorite pianos to use… it sounds so great

    Maverick is my favourite. Very versatile, grand in centre, honkey tonk , and soft piano all in one.

    I love just hearing you play!!!! I have recently purchased the Gentleman and I do love it. I own the Giant as well. I uninstalled Alicia’s Keys. Sometimes I use the Addictive Keys Studio Grand which is decent and less taxing on my cpu. Thanks for the great playing and review!

    The sole fact that Alicia´s Keys CAME OUT IN 2010! and is STILL always in every contemporary virtual piano comparison is amazing....

    You could play a damn detuned saloon piano and it would sound wonderful. Could listen to your playing all day long.

    Keyscape doesn't have "String Resonance" modeling engine. Just simple samples of piano. NI do have at all pianos.

      Yes your right. Most of the musicians do not care about the technical details of their instruments. So your not alone.
      But still the authenticity of the piano sounds without the Piano Engine when you are aware of it is noticeable for sure.

      I think String resonance it’s a big deal if you want to combine with realistic piano noises like hammers pedal noises etc.
      and It’s already a preset in nord pianos.

    My biggest issue with the Grandeur is that the timbre of the bass notes is not aggressive (bright) enough when played forte.
    Re The Giant - it would be fantastic for "Cornflake Girl" (Tori Amos) :D

    NI recently released Piano Colors. Looks like Noir with modified effects. Maybe you can do a review of it soon...

      I don't currently offer lessons, but I'm thinking about opening up some time for it. Have never thought about a book though, that's interesting idea.

      Realistic would be the Garritan CFX and VSL pianos. But that doesn't mean they're better in every scenario

    I watched this because I'm buying a new controller and a couple of them come with the gentleman, have you got an opinion between the Arturia Essentials MK3 and NI A49? Lovely to listen to your playing as always!

    Could the issue with Alicia's Keys be that it only has 12 velocity layers, while Giant Gentleman Maverick & Una Corda all have 18? Is your dislike for it primarily about the playability and dynamics rather than the timbre?

      mix of both, I think with all the more modern libraries having deeper velocity layers, it's just hard for me to use anymore.

    I am biased to the roland digital and yamaha acoustic I’ve played although i think the una chorda and Alicia keys sounds best, the others seem too clanky on the higher notes, with a little more clipping / bite that doesn’t feel authentic to the piano sound

    In a live band setting, so much of the nuance is lost, anyway. With NI, I struggle to eq the muddiness out of the bottom end of their pianos. I need more presence across the range…

      Yeah, depending on which one you're using. I don't feel grandeur has that problem, but maybe I'm going deaf

      @@SamTheBeardGuy Try playing the opening to "Long Way Home" (Supertramp) on The Grandeur - the bass notes don't sound aggressive enough, IMHO. (no problems with volume - it's just the timbre)

      The gentleman is the Hamburg Steinway D., PianoTeq 8 has several steinway models as well

      @@SamTheBeardGuy yeah a U3 would be nice or even something like a Bluthner upright.... Maybe a bigger grand piano, something a bit more clinical in a mix. They really need add string resonance etc on the upright piano and perhaps add the ability to change mic position's to sit better in a mix because sometimes I struggle to get the C7 to fit in.

    What sustain pedal do you use I wonder? And do you think simple on-off square pedals have any use as a sustain pedal? Haven't tried one but think of it as a light and portable thing. Thanks.

    I've found all the native pianos don't sound as full when i load them. What do you think is causing this?

    What would you recommend to somebody who loves the Embertone but their computer CPU just can’t handle it? Keyscape just seems too expensive for just the piano.
