I remember when I was a kid and my brother who is seven years older than me. When he was a teenager he was drinking a gallon of milk in a day and a half. 😂😂
I agree! I only have two kids BUT they are two teenage boys who play football and they can sure eat!! My kids are tall and lean and GROWING and I go through fruit so fast at my house. Each of the strawberry boxes you bought they took to the couch yesterday and shared a box while watching a movie last night. Then they shared a box this morning for breakfast. I didn’t even get to try ONE berry before they had eaten both boxes in less than 24 hours.
You do have the right idea start slow and build gradually over the next several months. I know your in an area prone to natural disaster problems. You had a major wind/ almost a hurricane awhile back. Some of the best things you can stock up on is things like flour/ sugar/ yeast/ dry beans to start out with and then prep out from there. Also really you can put those things in 5 gal food grade buckets and store them in any closet till you get the spot for food storage that you want. Then you can work on canned fruits/ veggies/ and meats. As long as you keep those in a temp stable area they will last for years past best by/ expiration dates as long as the can doesn’t look compromised in any way. We have enough food to last probably two years as is. We just eat from our stores and add back to it every month so we rarely get below that one to two year mark. We also have an 800 acre farm so that helps us with our own food production we raise or own livestock for meat and chickens for eggs, and we can some of our own food from our garden, but this year we will be canning even more of our own food. I know very few people are like us with the farm life, you can definitely still accomplish a lot of those things with store bought dry goods and canned foods. Also you can use part of your yard to grow some of your own food. Make a small garden area with a few tomato plants and your own salad greens. Plant a couple fruit trees or berry bushes if you have room. It would be a great homeschool project for your kids and keep them busy through the summer. Start with gardening, maybe work up to chickens if you want to just please do your research before getting chickens there are so many people asking right now why their one month old chicks aren’t laying eggs yet? Chickens take an average of 6 months before they start laying eggs. Just some thoughts meant with love and guidance 💖 it can be overwhelming starting from scratch.
As soon as this all started getting going in NC my husband and I got baby chickens and built a broder and an outdoor chicken coop. We have a few months now before we get eggs. We're also starting our garden.
If your family isn’t picky regarding milk and you want to stock up a bit, you could buy plant based milk in the non refrigerated containers. They don’t need to be refrigerated until they are opened. My kids love almond, soy, hemp, and oat milk.
@@Goldhaehnchen94 actually its true. In our area everyone is still bulk buying everything and so now my husband who has celiac wasn't able to get any of his food for about 2 weeks because everyone kept buying up all the gluten free stuff when the normal stuff ran out
You can create extra storage for dry food in one of your’s kid closet- when you did cleaning series I saw you keep most of theirs clothes in drawers, so on the top shelves you could store pasta, cans, sauces etc. It’s not very instagram friendly looking but it works 🤷♀️
I’ve been telling my husband I needed an extra fridge for awhile! Family of 5 over here. So around December he check on Craigslist and letgo and found me a second hand fridge for under $100! Almost like new and shopping has been so much easier now.
Same here! 8 people in the house. 6 adults and 2 babies. We go hunting and fishing yearly and package and freeze it all ourselves so we had a second fridge and a giant chest freezer
I'm from Brazil, I think it's funny your watermelon observation. We never buy it already in slices and we usually find watermelon and pineapples in every coner on the streets. And the beans too. We usually buy them rotten and cook them at home... The food difference is pretty fun! Hope u fine during this covid 19 days...
You can 😁 Although, if you use a half cup before freezing it, that prevents leaking and possible plastic breaking when liquid expands. Certain brands worse than others with cracking.
Mom of 6 (usually 8 when hosting my two exchange students each year), my kids go through 4 gallons of milk in about 3 days! If you could get another fridge and freezer, it helps tremendously! Less trips to the store which means you don't tend to buy as much. The kids blow through all the fresh fruit! Except bananas...what's the deal with the bananas? You either don't buy enough and when you do, they suddenly don't eat them. Just finished reading your book! I couldn't put it down. You're an amazing mom!
I can only imagine the looks you must be getting in the stores! We're only a family of 6 and are struggling with food, so my heart really goes out to you 💜
Lol I went to Walmart yesterday because I haven't been to the store in weeks and I have a family of 6 also and I had to get alot so it probably looks like hoarding but it's just 4 boys require alot of food so I had to say to the cashier I have four kids I'm sorry I got so much lol
An old lady told my husband, "looks like someone is hoarding food, huh?". He told her, "nope, someone has 4 kids at home and this is what food for 6 for 1 week looks like."🙄 I want to get him a shirt that says "save the judgement, shopping for 6 to avoid feeling like he should explain".
I just wanted to comment on the last video you did about homeschooling. I used to homeschool and when the pandemic hit my kids were in school. I will tell you it’s very frustrating doing distance learning which is what we call all the people who are forced to be home and school. Home schooling you have time to prepare your curriculum and it’s fun and awesome! distance schooling is just a mess.
I don't like canned vegetables for many, many reasons, but we are trying to buy some so we can stretch everything for 3 weeks. We only have one fridge. Try getting dry milk powder. It dissolves so easily and taste the same! Because we have the same problem you have! 6 people, 3 are teens! I see that you didn't get any baking goods. For example, if you run out of bread, you could make some quick rolls or something if you had some baking stuff hand. I guess there's some special food grade buckets and lids you can get as well. Buy dry beans instead of canned, too (although I do the same thing for our chili). I know it's hard because you want the best stuff, including all the fresh stuff, but if you want to lessen the amount of times you leave the house, you'll have to lower your standards. We typically buy frozen vegetables and fresh and then eat fresh vegetables first, then frozen, then canned, for example. Same thing goes for meat. We'll keep canned chicken and tuna and use those last. Just some tips! And our pantry is just as big if not smaller than yours, too. And what, no coffee in that haul? Lol.
Very smart. I see so many large family channels that were not prepared and worried about getting enough. Regardless of the size but especially large I do not understand why more weren’t modestly prepared. Hoping more will learn from the experience.
I personally think that is the best way to do it! Just get a little extra each shopping trip and your storage will grow. You just have to rotate through everything so it doesn’t go bad.
When putting together your 72hr kits try going to Bass Pro Shop. You can get MRE or "rations". The thing that might interest you is the self heating coffee. I suggest BPS because you can get ideas of what you might want to put in your personal ones. Mine has self heating beverages in it because it lives in the car and if I get stuck in the snow I have a way to help keep me warm. Love y'all. 🤗😊🇨🇦🐾
I don't think you should worry about Vit C intake, you have a lot of fruit, most of it is good for vitamin C. You should have gotten some vodka - it could double as surface sanitizer 😁 plus it will go well with that juice 😁
You are very kind and compassionate to keep other families in mind during this time. As a family of 10, you're the ones who SHOULD be stocking up multiple carts. It's just me and my fiancé and even we have had to fight the urge to start stockpiling because "since everyone else is doing it, we have to grab them while we have the chance," but it's worth remembering that none of these companies have gone out of business and they're working hard to adjust to the demand. Sending love and health your way!!
If you end up at Costco or another wholesale they have a huge container of the ranch seasoning in the spice section normally! Depending on your pantry situation it’s really nice to have on hand 😊
I try to have extra can goods on hand because they are easy to store and usually have a long expiration date. To make it easier for rotation, I take a black sharpie and write the expiration date on the front of the can. Then when you need to rotate the cans, you don’t have to spend time looking for the expiration date (or standing on your head to read it!). I have done this for years and it works real well for me. If I see something that will be expiring soon, I can plan to use it.
I just picked up those same plastic cups from Target. I usually make jello in jelly jars but since we've moved they're all packed! I found those cups and we use them for our individual jellos!! Great affordable snack for a big family!!! also makes the fridge fun and colorful. Yeah I am weird like that
Yes please! I would love to see what kind of things you put into a long-term food storage as well. This has made me even think about it because I do a nutrition system, but if you can’t get to the store do you need more than just that in your diet and healthy things that will actually last. Very interested in this and so glad that you still have comments. I’ve seen you to start to take it away from a couple of other wholesome channels
We have a mini fridge just for extra milk. And best part about buying pineapples and watermelon NOT cut is it doesn't need to go in the fridge. We are trying to go 3 weeks without going to the store. Costco trip will be needed.
It's definitely harder for us big families to grocery shop right now. I have a family of 15. 9 boys and 3 girls, plus our parents and we have a good friend who lives with us as well. Then sometimes we have have the 4 grandkids, 3 girls and 1 boy.
I ended up buying a second fridge to put in the garage. It’s a smaller fridge, 10 cu ft. And about $400. But it’s enough for the extra storage space needed. I too ended up buying more food to avoid going to the grocery store as often. I’m hoping this will get us through a few weeks so that we can stay safely in our homes.
Thank you for being such an inspiration! Just neede to say that. I've watched many of your videos and i appreciate your honesty, not sugarcoating things and staying upbeat and positive!
I realized having a safety net of goods is the best option. I am one of those who only buy what we need for the week or every two weeks, with these restrictions over here women can only go out 2 hours depending on the ID ending number just on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Supermarkets check even your fever and it's hard to find normal daily food. So from now and on we'll be having more food cuz now I believe anything can happen
Think about a generator or two. I live in Florida went through Andrew head on and several other head-on hurricanes in the past several years. We have 2 deep freezers and than a small one in our house. We have a cool storage for gas and we stock up on gas long before the season starts and we add to it. Now if we don't use it all it ends up in the lawn equipment for Florida fall. Leaves blowers ect. So it is a investment but saved us in the long run. I also coupon through out the year for dry goods. Just go by "first in first out" and you will be amazed.
Glad you were able to find a good bit for your precious family!! By the way....Sugar and vitamin c don't work together. Cells will take sugar over c since they both need the same receptor, so vitamin c doesn't get used. 😔. Thomas DeLauer has lots of info on his channel with research backup. Will help not waste money during this stressful time
I only have 4 kids and my Costco hauls are always twice the size of yours. We are always making sure we have extra to get by a month if we can’t get to the store. Also Oranges are low in vitamin C compared, Vitamin C supplements are very much needed as our soil is so depleted now day’s.
I don't know exactly where you live but I remember yall talking about a hurricane last summer so I'm going to assume that while it isn't likely a high possibility or y'all, it is a possibility. As someone from southeast Texas who has seen many hurricanes and floods in the last several years, be careful relying on fridge/freezer for too much food storage because if power goes out for any length of time, you may loose all of it. We are a family of 7 and typically keep our extra freezer stocked for most of the year and then start using up lots of it from about june till fall when our location is most likely to be in need of food storage. My kids and I eat mostly fresh food so building a storage of that is harder but it is important for us to have plenty of shelf stable storage option as well. We aren't prepping for doomsday over here but it is nice to not be scrambling in the current situation, hurricane, flood, or even an income loss.
We’re in N.C.! Good point about the power going out! We have a camper so we are also adding a generator to our list so that we could use the camper and or power the food storage if we needed to. But yes, I want to focus on dry goods too!
Get the generator now, don’t wait until hurricane season. I love in the Sandhills region, and we had just put it out if mind until Florence was headed for us. We ended up with only one choice for a generator, and almost didn’t get one. If you start shopping now, you’ll have so much of a better selection.
We live in SC and have 6 kids. We have an extra fridge and extra stand up freezer. If we loose power we don’t open them, they usually last for a day or so. We also have used a generator before to keep it cold . It’s a must for us to always have extra meat, veggies , bread in our freezers. My husband lost his job two years ago and we lived off our supply for about a month, both dry and cold storage.
We are a family of 6 and this is our usually grocery hall for 2 weeks just with a lot more meat and big bags or rice and 20 lbs of onions. Ofcourse, we are cajun and live in south Louisiana so we really cook.
Yes I'd like to see the storage and 72 hr. I'm doing the exact thing. It's tough with the shelves looking so empty. But a few things at a time. I'm only a mama to 2 boys but our family of 4 does groceries weekly. Now we are trying 2 to 3 weeks but it's hard.
I have to start getting ready for work soon ( even though idk if I'm going in yet, I just have to be prepared) and this is the perfect way to procrastinate. Thanks! Xx
There is no need to stock like in a hurricane or floods. There will still be supplies at the markets and you will Be able to go as normal. Here in Spain even in our worst point of the pandemic we could go to the market and we had all the food as normal; even toilet paper appeared. Stay calm and stay safe; the most important part is to keep away of other people. It will pass😘😘
i live in Aus but i also had to stock up (slowly over the whole of march not panick buying). i live alone so i need supplys in case i need to self isolate. also the fact that 1 in 10 people here have lost jobs n it was eye opening. mine is safe but if i have a week or month with less money or income; a full pantry will help me get by. and if it gets worse at least i could avoid leaving the house for 3 weeks if i needed to. stocking up slowly and sensibly allows you to keep away from others by going out less 😊😊
I’m with you girl I’m even thinking of a garden for some of our most eaten veggies and fruit. We are a family of 7 and we live with a small kitchen so I haven’t had room for food storage but I’m making room now.
love this video! i live in argentina.and thankfully our government has declared an obligatory quarantine, so there waaaaay less people sick than in USA, but i am still trying to build a stock up of groceries for my family... i wish i had an extra freezer! 💔 i can only stock up for like a week or so of meat and dairy... but hey, I'm buying pasta and cans every time i can 🤣 i would really like to see how you manage to store all the food because i don't have a lot of space, it would be really useful to me! i hope you're all healthy and happy , and of course, safe at home! we all can help to flatten de curve worldwide! ❤️
I also got those pillows at costco last year and I hate them. I have to fluff them up everyday and they are still too firm. I think its because of the gel stuff inside, it basically clumps together and becomes pretty hard. Also once you fluff them when you lay down the filling doesnt sink gracefully. It basically sinks back in a hard clump of filling.Sometimes my neck hurts when I wake up in the morning from using them.
I have 4 kids and like to do bimonthly stockups at Sam's. This month I did my Sam's order, a Walmart order and an Aldi order. This should last us 4 to 6 weeks. I have a full fridge and a full freezer and I still couldn't fit it all. I had to use the fridge at our rental house (which currently cannot be used due to restrictions). Now we won't have to go out for a month.
I am thinking about doing 72 hr survival kits so I would love to see what you put in yours. With 4 little kids I am working out what goes in theirs as well as what goes in our kits.
I'm sorry to disappoint you. If you are not deficient in it, the vitamin c you ingest just gets peed. To fight various virus intra venous (iv) vitamin C has shown some results. just eat as normal and try enjoying this time at home
I just got those forks and spoons for my 1 and 1/2 yr old. He’s over the baby spoons and such but my silverware is a little bulky for him and he’s really liking those. Also have you have checked out Jordan page? She has a large family like yours and shows how her family stores things with extra freezers and such
We have 9 kiddos and go through fruit like CRAZY! We have a second deep freezer in our garage and that helps us to have extra space. We are looking to get another refrigerator now. My last Costco haul looked insane and I just wanted to wear a sign "I have 9 kids!" Haha
Thanks for the video! Just a note that may help you, I used to use sensodyne because I have sensitive teeth, and a few years ago they were really really bad, then I switched to an arm and hammer toothpaste not for sensitive and it got WAY better! I couldn't even bite into a whole fridge cold apple without a reaction before, hot things set it off too, it was awful, and now I hardly notice it at all, just if I bite ice cream or something. So idk but my opinion is that sensodyne makes sensitivity worse. 🤷♀️
My Pillow (the brand) is literately the best pillow. The thing I like most is that you can wash them and they maintain their shape. Also, have you tried Hairitage hair care stuff by Mindy McKnight (CuteGirlsHairstyle). It's so good.
I remember the first week when the said about the pandemic. I went out shopping for what I could because where I live in tx ppl went crazy . Anyways I remember I was dreaming deep freezer that I needed one because i didn’t have space in my small freezer. I have a family of 6 so I know what it’s like .
We are a family of 7, and I can see my little munchkins plowing through the fresh fruit in a week. Maybe a week and a half if we are lucky. "Mom went shopping?" The hoard descends.
I have two kids. And they go through fruits really fast. I just bought two ( from Costco) strawberries and they lasted 3 days!!! Bought a big thing of grapes lasted 2 days. Bought 4 kiwis my kids never had them before.. lasted 1 day!!! I can only imagine having a bigger family. But it is my fault.. I leave them out so they have free range of them. They would rather eat fruit than anything else. Hey... its natures candy right?! Lol
Here too. Family of 6 and all my kids are good eaters and love fruit and veggies. We shopped last Wed. hoping to make it a full week - the first day the first container of strawberries was gone and the adults didn't even get any. They have already gotten through the berries, apples, half the oranges, the cucumbers, carrots, peppers...it's crazy.
We have a costco just opened in perth western austrslia but because we are not allowed to leave our region i havent been yet im so excited to go once we are allowed go leave our towns thats the first place iam heading lol thank you for your videos i love them
In the UK you can only buy 2 of most items, i literally dont know how a family of your size would be able to shop here. We have been advised to have 14 days worth of food incase if having to isolate.
Im glad you found nuggets!! We buy those all the time at costco and they were out the last couple times we went. My daughter has only wanted to eat nuggets!!! 😬😬 i will try again this week. Also we loves the crack chicken chili recipe, it was a hit! Please share more recipes whenever you can!! 🥰🤗🤗
Mom of 5 here an you should invest in a deep freezer.. it’s safe to freeze fruits, milk, an vegetables even bread lol Meat is always great to freeze. Just thaw an it’s still good to eat.
Hi I'm from Ontario Canada and always interested in what other people pay for stuff at Costco. The ground beef I normally pay about $21-$23 for that size, green grapes are about $9. Just wondering if you have a minute to reply.
It's so different here in UK, we're not allowed to stock up food. It's frowned upon. It's so difficult for large families as you have more to feed. It's certainly a balancing act for you xxxxx
What does “stock up” look like in the UK? I had to purchase a considerable amount of food to get us through two or three weeks to limit the amount of trips I need to make to the grocery store, primarily because I keep a small pantry and shop twice a week. Who keeps an eye and says RBI’s person has spent too much? I guarantee that even with my big shops I still have less in my kitchen than most US families. Food security is such a subjective thing.
As a mom of three teenagers...you will need a second fridge or a freezer.

Did you know you can freeze milk, just whack it in the freezer unopened and then put it back in the fridge 24 hours before you need it again.
I was gonna tell her the same thing. I learned that from living in rural Alaska.
Eggs, peanut butter & hummus are a few other things you can freeze!!!
It is a little sweeter when it thaws though

natureallmighty bahaha true that
Vodka is not strong enough to be an effective sanitizer. Stock up on isopropyl alcohol 90%, it's cheaper anyways.
Don't know if you were joking, but Vodka doesn't really work as a disinfectant, there has to be at least 60-70% alcohol.

Oh thanks! I’ll look for that next time!
You could put a fridge freezer near your dinning room table notice you have double electrical outlet there
I was thinking the same thing. It's not going to be pretty, but it can work.
This mom is so thoughtful!!
I don’t know how you do it seriously. I’m amazed at how you deal with 8 kids. I have only two and it’s super overwhelming.
If yall use the ranch packets a lot Walmart has it in a big container kind of like the taco seasoning one!
Can you show us how you desinfect and clean all the items and fruit if you usually do it ?
Jodi Wagley super great information! Thank you for sharing I had never thought about that 🤦🏼♀️
We have a generator and highly suggest the investment. It’s worth every penny when you freeze a whole cow 🤣
I'm glad we aren't the only ones painting during quarantine! But hey, our hallway looks fabulous now!
You could do with a big freezer and put it in your office. We love our new freezer. Perfect for quarantine. Xxxx 💖
Always enjoy your blogs The Children are growing so fast.Keep Safe.Greetings from New Zealand❤
Thanks! Xx
My mom used to freeze milk cartons to make them last longer & soak strawberries in vinegar so they wouldn’t go bad
We only had 5 kids growing up & needed 2 fridges. One was in the garage & was primarily the milk/egg/extra fridge!
love this video! i live in argentina.and thankfully our government has declared an obligatory quarantine, so there waaaaay less people sick than in USA, but i am still trying to build a stock up of groceries for my family... i wish i had an extra freezer!
Our big grocery haul day is coming soon! Haha. People think we are hoarders, when in reality we have 5 of all y’all’s families put together. 😂
Vitamin C is also sensitive to light, so if you by orange juice look for a dark bottle!
Vitamin C is present in a lot if not most fruit and vegetables. Citrus is high in it. Bell peppers have a ton too, if your kids like those
I also got those pillows at costco last year and I hate them.
Lemons and limes are higher in V. C, just a slice in your water goes a long way. Also parsley and cilantro.
She has a large family like yours and shows how her family stores things with extra freezers and such
Great video! I love Costco ranch dry seasoning mix! It’s super inexpensive and lasts forever!!
An extra frig and freezer is a great idea! Maybe rent 2 own ? U can call on phone and order!
Keep an eye on Facebook marketplace for a cheap fridge that someone is getting rid of!
Also, the Nextdoor & Let Go apps.
I have a family of 5 and our grocery hauls look pretty much like yours! Lol all boys here and they eat so much!
I've never heard another person (other than me and my boyfriend) call snacks "snackies"!! instantly subscribed.
I am so very interested in your food storage ideas. I want to start a food storage system of sorts, do I look forward to your videos on that topic. 😊
Just subbed :) So happy to find you guys during iso. We have 10 kids so totally get it. Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us
yassssss post anything and everything about food storage😍😍
Now that's a grocery haul! Your doing a great job! Everyone stay safe!
I love grocery hauls! I couldn't comment on your family channel but I just wanted to say how cute Benjamin is!!
I totally need a Costco membership for that giant thing of oreos! Quaretine food!
It’s so bad- but SO good 😊
I just brought extra fridge freezer and stuck it in garage if you have electric sockets in there.
We don’t have a garage- but I’m thinking of putting one in my office
We have a costco just opened in perth western austrslia but because we are not allowed to leave our region i havent been yet im so excited to go once we are allowed go leave our towns thats the first place iam heading lol thank you for your videos i love them
What a haul! FYI, apples have more Vitamin C than oranges/OJ! Good news, yes? 😃 You definitely need a second fridge/freezer, my dear. Stay safe! 😍
red bell pepper and brokkoli have a lot of vitamin c
Do you have paint? If not grab some now. All our hardwear type stores are now closed so not easy getting home improvements done. We're in the UK x
Kiwi and bell peppers are a great source of vitamin c as well
In the UK you can only buy 2 of most items, i literally dont know how a family of your size would be able to shop here.
I hope everyone starts stocking up
That Costco wine you got is my favorite. I buy a bottle nearly everytime we go cause it's so cheap and good!
At least 1000mg of Vit C is the best, along side Vitamin D & Zinc
Yes, on the survival pack.
Where do you store?can u do a vlog how to store extra groceries for quarantine.
Mom of 5 here an you should invest in a deep freezer.. it’s safe to freeze fruits, milk, an vegetables even bread lol Meat is always great to freeze. Just thaw an it’s still good to eat.
Definitely would be great for you to have another frigerator or freezer because once they become teenagers they eat a lot more
Kale is also a good source of vitamin c as well as the strawberries
Dried beans are good to stock up
The highest amount of vitamin C is actually in strawberries :)
Good to know! My kids eat boatloads of strawberries! 😂
It’s quite high in kiwi as well
@@angela.braniff citrus fruits are high in vitamin C but bell pepper is even better
Lots of vit c in green and red sweet peppers
You really need to invest in a standup freezer. Only like $500 but it’s so worth it!
You are amazing mommy.. 8 kids ? And this grocery ? Wowo.. this is a lot..
I love how cr was quietly hiding in the background lol
Hi I'm from Ontario Canada and always interested in what other people pay for stuff at Costco. The ground beef I normally pay about $21-$23 for that size, green grapes are about $9. Just wondering if you have a minute to reply.
I heard Vitamin D helps with immunity regulations also.
It's so different here in UK, we're not allowed to stock up food. It's frowned upon.
It's so difficult for large families as you have more to feed. It's certainly a balancing act for you xxxxx
I’m gonna make a paper sign to wear to the stores that says “ I have 8 kids to feed” 😂
"Preppers" in the US are seen as crazy, until now...
@@angela.braniff good idea 😊 xxxx
We are a family of 5 and we just barely got a second fridge! Life saver. I don’t know how you guys have survived without one lol
I loved seeing all of that!
