I think I’m gonna use one of these at church on Sundays, just running the DI out, maybe even ditch my Helix and go back to using pedals with this amp over running my helix with a built in amp/IR. I’m excited to try one of these. Leave it moderately cranked and push it for leads with an overdrive, or keep it cranked and ride the volume knob for rhythm and roll all the way up for lead. The added bonus of having built in reverb and Tremolo could save you some floor space to add some modulation effects.

That 12W sounds fantastic. I love that there's some real saturation happening there. Too many amps these days sound like they're broken, to my ears. The crunch sounds are too, I dunno, desk distortion-esque could be the word I'm looking for. I mean: plugging into the mixing desk and cranking up the gain knob gives a real undesirable overdriven sound. Yet plenty of amp manufacturers must think that's what today's guitarists want. I wouldn't accept an amp that sounded like that if it was wrapped in $50 bills! So, kudos to Gibson for giving us a vintage saturated tone that real guitarists can use all day and all night. This newest offering from Gibson may be basically a one-trick pony, but what a terrific trick!!

I like the idea of these amps, but I think you missed the price point entirely. I think it would have been far wiser to launch these at a $500 price point, and take some market share from lunchbox amps offered by REVV and Orange’s Tiny Terror series. I think the new Falcons would have performed well in that segment by offering the only amp with a Vintage lineage, amongst more modern amps.
And then, maybe later on, offer some more expensive options/modes, but without encroaching on Mesa/Boogie’s offerings.
No doubt, these amps will sound great since Randall’s crew is overseeing them, but I just can’t fathom spending that much on one of these. Heck, the vintage Falcons/Skylarks could be picked up around $500 for the last few decades.

  • @alexdenton6586
    @alexdenton6586 Месяц назад +1

I own both tube amps and modeling amps, as well as the most traditional speaker cabinets with Celestion Vintage 30s inside. However, I must say that this whole debate is completely irrelevant because modeling and solid-state technology are the future.
Modeling or solid-state amps, even the inventor of Dumble himself (a bit before his death), when asked if transistor amps would ever be as good as tube amps, responded that the question wasn't if it would happen but when. He emphasized that one day someone would make a transistor amp that sounds exactly like a tube amp, and given the way the market is evolving, I believe we are not far from that point.
Even without considering that, basic modeling today is already excellent. Take anyone and blindfold them, and no one can tell the difference. Unfortunately, musicians often rely too much on their eyes instead of their ears. ( Most by the way jackoff way to much on gear all the time ( wether it’s new or vintage it’s the same ) instead of really playing guitar but that another debate)
In any case, for guitar, the trend is to build things that are always lighter, better, more practical, simpler, and more intuitive.
Even the country of origin hardly matters anymore because you can find quality in Europe, Asia, and even China, which wasn't known for quality products, is now able to copy or even surpass some American brands. We must recognize that American quality has significantly degraded, while Japanese quality remains stable at a high level.
So, things are changing for the better.

These do look amazing and sound absolutely phenomenal. The only thing I wish they had was a master volume control and a 3 way tone control. A harrier version of the Mesa California Tweed if you will. The 3 way tone control would be a nice bonus for changing between these Gibson more mid focused guitars and a guitar a bit more mid scooped. A 3-way would allow us to compensate and push those mids back with the amp. Perhaps that can be achieved through the two inputs. Anyways, like others have said, great sounding amp for not too bad of a price either. Very tempting indeed.

Not many (if any) tube amps are great for acoustic guitar. Acoustic amplification is better serviced with solid stae components and full range fidelity with minimal distortion, whereas tube amps are prone to distortion and tend to be more mid focused with less definition in the lows and highs.

Finally figured out why Gibson bought MESA Boogie...lol I didnt finish the video but im curious if Gibson has a brain like other good amp builders and decided to put EL34's/6L6 in the power section instead of the weak el84's....My DSL 20 has EL34....makes a massive difference.

Since when did “hand wired” mean “pre-populated PCB installed by hand”?

Great sounding amp and nice new features.... just wish they also included an FX loop 🤷‍♂

Less features = less failure points, so the fact that they restrained themselves from adding features like channel switching, effects loops, 3 band EQ, etc is a welcome sight.
Honestly, its actually pretty refreshing to see more of a "bare bones" new production amp being made.

The gain is just way too fuzzy/farty sounding for me. I wish there was a way to dial that fuzz back a bit while keeping the gain turned up. The cleaner tones are very nice though.

You can do that with the volume. He keeps turning it up too high but does show it can sound good by dialing it back. It also isn’t meant to be a high gain screaming amp. That is Mesa/Boogie’s job.

They look good, they sound really good, but the price point seems unrealistic compared to similar options from Fender, Marshall or Vox. It will be interesting to see what will be the acceptance of these amps.
