Ryan's death wasn't the end but it was definitely the beginning of the end. You saw a major tonal shift in all GB content when Ryan passed, not just because everyone was sad but because Ryan brought so much focus to the group. You can really see how Jeff's hosting of the bombcast was completely different than Ryan's when you go back to the first episode with THE BUZZER since it's before Ryan passed. That style wasn't necessarily bad, but they really needed the focus of Ryan in the long term and Jeff worked much better as a talking head. GB had a renaissance of sorts when Dan was brought on. His enthusiasm and sheer energy invigorated the site and he brought a ton of unique content to it, plus putting Brad on the bombcast as host gave it the focus it needed. It was vinny breaking off to GB East that really ended the golden era. There was just no one left to fill in the gaps and the people they've hired since almost feel half baked. GB was a bunch of industry vets coming together and shooting the shit, you really couldn't bring in youngblood without ruining the dynamic, especially now that so many game journos seem more interested in talking about games that actually playing them.
