I get that comedians are telling stories and taking us down fictitious paths to make a point or get a laugh. But I HATED the way he closed out the ending, if you've been a fan of Schaub since before he started being an entertainer fulltime then you know that's not, as he put it himself, "his story". "Bryan and I drove 8 hours to LA, and we hatched a plan so that i would never fight again", on that fateful episode of JRE a few weeks post fight "yea man, we just need to polish up a few things then I should be able to make a go at a title run" . You can fudge things, because it's your job to make people laugh, but that's an outright lie, and it didn't sit well with me

With schaub, it’s not only that he’s straight up lying about actual events that happened, but also that the joke isn’t even funny to begin with. The whole thing about his Asian doctor being Asian is not funny because the punchline and the joke is that the doctor is Asian and that Asian people talk funny.....that’s it. There’s nothing clever, there’s nothing witty, there’s nothing insightful, there’s nothing even goofy about it; it’s literally making fun of how Asian people talk broken English. A perfect example of how knowing the right people can get you anywhere. Thousands of comedians would kill each other for their own special. Shaub decides he wants to do stand-up one day and the next gets handed a auditorium, a cameraman and a packed house to try open-mic level jokes that he never really practiced.
One credit I'll give him is that he doesn't seem to fully choke, although I'm apparently too dumb to give credit, as I have enjoyed "comedy" by Bert Kreischer, Joe Rogan, and Jim Norton, so I don't know

I get that comedians are telling stories and taking us down fictitious paths to make a point or get a laugh. But I HATED the way he closed out the ending, if you've been a fan of Schaub since before he started being an entertainer fulltime then you know that's not, as he put it himself, "his story". "Bryan and I drove 8 hours to LA, and we hatched a plan so that i would never fight again", on that fateful episode of JRE a few weeks post fight "yea man, we just need to polish up a few things then I should be able to make a go at a title run" . You can fudge things, because it's your job to make people laugh, but that's an outright lie, and it didn't sit well with me

I get that comedians exaggerate when telling stories but generally their recollection is more of a caricature of a story and not just a straight up lie like this.
some are flat out lies, but they do what they can to make it believable so the audience doesnt have a reaction like this. at the end of the day, it just entertainment. there's no need for them to tell you any truth, but just to make you laugh.
There are lies in standup comedy. Some lie for a story, some lie for events that never happened, and some lie simply for the joke. The worst is when they lie and the joke isn’t funny becsuse then you’ve failed at doing what you’re supposed to be doing. With schaub, it’s not only that he’s straight up lying about actual events that happened, but also that the joke isn’t even funny to begin with.
The whole thing about his Asian doctor being Asian is not funny because the punchline and the joke is that the doctor is Asian and that Asian people talk funny.....that’s it. There’s nothing clever, there’s nothing witty, there’s nothing insightful, there’s nothing even goofy about it; it’s literally making fun of how Asian people talk broken English. You’d expect more from schsub considering he kept saying how much he’s working on his standup material, how much he had comedy writers help him write his material, and considering how good friends he is with Bryan Callen.

If you argue that he has only been doing the job for four years, what do you argue when your mechanic fucks up your oil change. Don't worry guys at year ten the magic happens. The impression isn't racist enough to even get a cheap laugh out of me, but it is absolutely an intentional lie when compared with the doctor who sounds more American than I do. Also note the gay tone of everything, down to his clothes even. He knew he hadn't written a single great joke, so he's going full tilt modern "comedian". Which means a goofy story teller.
