    The random encounters are kinda important to stop you from wandering into high level areas and grabbing all the good items in early game, especially without risk. I think they can make something like a repel from pokemon, which stops random encounters which is lower level than you

    great video! One thing though, it does play in the same world as Octopath 1 but in a different region. a character named Al (the guy with the first sidequest who lost his bag) later talks about his home region Orsterra, being the region of Octopath 1 :D this one is a nitpick, but its borderline pre-steam as the story talks about how the steam engine has just been invented :P

      Not sure dude. Thats exactly what got me out ot Octo I. The encounters were way too frequent and annoying. It didnt allow to really explore the beautiful world. I remember there was a character skill that allowed to reduce the encounter rate but it was still annoying… if they havent changed that in my opinion ruins the whole game. They should stick to enemies being visible and you deciding if engaging them or not

    • @robertdouth8979
      @robertdouth8979 Год назад +2

      @reklom vera Yes, the 8 main jobs are the same, but in the first or 2nd chapter (I started with Throne and went to Temenos) I was given the option for a 2nd job and it was Inventor. I don't know all the secondary jobs, but I know they are different, and they also updated the primary classes with some fantastic QoL changes and some additional skills (5 support skills vs. 4 in the first game) along with latent skills and day/night skills like Throne the thief still steals during the day, but can ambush and knock someone out at night.
      The hunter Ochette has a 25% chance to capture a monster after she's defeated it at least once, which makes it so much easier to capture and keep a roster of support monsters and will be nice for those rarer monsters later on in the game. *edit* just got to Hikari and the ability to store up to 5 skills from people you challenge as warrior is an amazing skill IMO

    spoilers for octopath 2
    I will say that there is a small reference to the first octopath game which i found as quite a surprise. In the library town ((I want to say montwise)) there is a side mission to recover certain books. one of the books in question is "from the far reaches of hell". Octopath 1 fans with a key eye might remember that cyrus' whole deal was to search for that one book.

    I disagree with the "grindfest" aspect. Most of the stats you will get comes from equips. That way you are rewarded for exploring, reaching new towns, use path actions to retrieve (somehow) those itens from NPCs; not for fighting per se.

  • @warpuppy4528
    @warpuppy4528 Год назад +4

    The biggest improvement is to the individual character stories. In the first one, the game was structured to follow a very precise formula and the story often suffered for it. You would be introduced to a situation, use field skills to expand on the situation which would take you to a dungeon, explore the dungeon to the end and then fight a boss.
    In Octopath 2, sometimes your character will arrive to a location and already know exactly what they need to do so they won't need to use field skills in town to get going, sometimes there is a boss they will have to fight within the city so there is no dungeon, and sometimes there won't even be a boss in a chapter. The writers were given much more freedom to tell the stories they wanted to tell rather than forcing the story to fit a specific box.
    As far as combat goes, I wish there were difficulty options because I find myself having no problems even when I am fighting enemies 10 levels above me, but apparently this game is also hard for some people. So adding an easy mode and a hard mode would go a long way. I think all they would really have to do is give enemies more shield points with less weaknesses on hard, and reduce the damage enemies deal to you on easy.
    I also wish there was some kind of EXP sharing because some of my characters really fell behind and rather than being the hero of their story, they were more like dead weight being dragged through their chapters by my better party members.

      To note that both the Switch & PC are the only places you can play both the first & second game. On the Playstation side of things, only the second game is available, while the Xbox side of things, only the first game is available. Kind of weird, maybe in the future time changes that. But yes, PC is one of the definitive platforms to play the series.

    i like it, if games change little to not at all between sequels. it makes them feel more like part of a whole, instead of a gimmick. i dont need two towers to have holographic images, just because fellowship of the ring is a book. and i dont need return of the kings to be an interactive VR-experience. sometimes we force change, just for changes sake. i just want more of octopath traveler 1. The "it needs to have something new with every sequel" is what lead us to FF16, being action-combat-oriented (allthough it doesn't bother me. it's just how the tides force change, even unwanted) or breath of fire to change itself into obscurity being abandoned alltogether.

    • @ricardodarcangelo2437
      @ricardodarcangelo2437 Год назад

      Yeah, I take your point on the "forcing change for change's sake" point. That's true, and not necessarily a positive.
      However, in the case of a long running, high sales franchise like FF, the change to action based combat was refreshing. Cuz everyone that plays rpgs wants to see what Final Fantasy is doing next, but the traditional rpg (jrpg) combat is more niche these days, and not broadly appealing. FF is the mainstream for rpgs now, so the change makes sense.
      I grew up on the traditional rpgs and Srpgs, and I get why they are loved, and of course, don't want to see them disappear... but I also would like to play FF16, as I have with every FF besides 11/14, and the combat is a change that needed to happen. Plus, many who "hate" the switch to more action, haven't really tried good action rpgs, and might be surprised to find they enjoy them once they learn it.
      Still, SE should do some spin offs or something, that keep the old school combat, to give those who only enjoy that style something for them too. Change is great if it brings new ideas, and gets more people into playing rpgs, and maybe going back to the classics; but ousting your longest supporters isn't great... I'm sure it wasn't an easy choice

    I would say this game is a direct upgrade from the last game. A bunch of quality of life changes and it just feels great to play. Totally love the stories too, maybe a bit less for Agnea, it is a bit too sunny for my taste

    • @teachingwithipad

      i think it’s good they have the full spectrum tonally- Agnea-happy go lucky, determination. Temenos- Sherlock Holmes, Hikari- monarchy struggles, Throne- slavery, Ochette-Pokemon, Oswald-Prison Break/Framed, Partitio(imo the weakest story, benevolent businessman? You rarely see this trope in media.) Casiti-G rated memento. They went HARD with Primrose’s prologue. I was hoping it goes Game of Thrones where your main characters can have permadeath in some story completion. But it would be a nighmare to finish. Even George RR can’t finish his stories.

      I mean, the first game isn't out for 15 years yet. But also, it wasn't grindy at all IMO! Yes some of the battles could be very hard, Galdera itself took me a few attemps, and whenever you jumped from one chapter to the next it could get brutal. But using the game mechanics, you could manage! Leveling up didn't help much to get stronger in the late game really; items are more important, and money is easy to come by especially with Tressa in the team

      There's a video on RUclips that compares the two platforms.
      PS5 has deeper, richer colours, and runs 60 fps.
      Switch runs at 30 fps, with a bit more grainy, washed out texturing.
      Strangely enough, for the type of game this is, I feel like the polished graphics and high frame rate kind of takes away from the charm. And I am ALWAYS the type to go for better performance and visuals if possible.
