You don't need to super grind on this game. There's a couple tricks to easily catch up lower level characters... the exp boost skill, together with one of Primrose's abilities, matched up with the cat enemies... dozens of thousands of exp.
I always liked the idea of separate stories. It's so difficult to make compelling narratives across 60+ hour campaigns that is relevant to your whole party.
Oh god yes, that would be the absolute best, why didn't I ever think of that? That game is so amazing and Octopath is pretty much the only other game that does the same thing for me that FF6 did so seeing FF6 in 2dhd would be amazing.
I think it deserves more of a Bravely Default treatment, at least. The OT design would hold it back, as it holds itself back with job sprites not reflecting outside of battles. This is not a hassle with 3D models, because they don't have to account for every frame of animation like with sprites.
This game got me really into JRPG’s and the final fantasy franchise. The music is phenomenal and has so many great pieces, the art and art style are beautiful to just look at, and the stories they tell are great, and have amazing and really interesting lore that ties them all together at the end, and for these reasons this is why this game is one of, if not my favorite game. I can’t wait for a sequel and hope it’s even better.
FFVI is amazing but it also had too big of a cast imo. The characters in it do interact unlike Octopath Traveler so that's better but some of them barely have any character/plot development. Actually when it came to the characters individually and not as a group most of them in Octopath were more fledged out.
Its true that octo has more individual centered quests, but their interactions are very interesting for me at least. Lots of character delevopment in dialogues during quests. But the postgame they kinda mix in one thing... just saying.
Pimpjira I actually like how much character development FFVI has. Even a character like Gau (who still works with zero explanation) has a complete story arc by reuniting him with his crazy father. That’s more than you get from Cait Sith in FFVII or Selphie in FFVIII. Granted, Umaro, Gogo, and even Mog don’t get the same treatment, but I think they fall into “bonus character” territory.
This is for this kind of game that I'm glad to have keep my habit to always make sure all my characters are almost as equally LVUP than the others in JRPG cause you never know when the game is going to force you to play a character you didn't play, or make you play all of them.
Grinding the characters up was really easy and fast in my opinion. The bosses all seemed fair once each character had two jobs. Once you get the four secret jobs you wreck pretty much everything.
I personally found most of the bosses easy to beat, the hardest ones were the special boss that gives you the war class (sorry I don't remember the name) and the final boss of the final dungeon, yeah grinding (or what ever is written) can be really exhausting when you're in high levels specially. The battle system is really good, I found it really easy to learn and use, I don't really get how people can say is hard to learn, at least for me it was pretty easy. The OST is pretty good, the bosses themes are exciting and the place's themes can be so damn relaxing. Secundary missions can be exhausting too, I had to look on a guide for not expend 100 hours doing by myself. Story by chapters are not bad, I like how all the things that are show in one character campaing can be complemented with the things shown in other campaing and then when you beat all the campaing you understand everything, and how each campaing focus is the character personallity, motivations, etc. I liked that coz it gave me for information about the characters I use in my party and know them better. I beat the game at 100% and I could say more things about this game, is really good, in my opinion some people complain just for the sake of doing it, I'm not saying that this game is perfect, it has good and bad things like every game, but some people just go and say shit about it with out even playing it. The boss that I found really unfair was [Spoiler] Galdera, holly shit that son of a bitch took me almost a month to beat it, idk who has the idea of that boss fight coz that was a hell of a fight. I hope you all understanted most of the things I said, my english is not perfect sorry, if you read all this thank you, I hope you have a great day, night or afternoon c:
I've been playing the game and I'm on my second run of the game and I have played the game for over 100 hours and this game is a almost masterpiece with minor flaws and yes galdarya
The final dungeon boss gauntlet is not something to scoff at, that double battle at the end took me several tries. Absolute masterpiece of a videogame. Glad to see not only more coverage, but a whole video on this game. Awesome.
The game wasn't so hard and I didn't have to grind the complete each char story. If you think the bosses battles were long you didn't master the battle system. Boost points, buf and debuff skills are the secret. I must confess had to grind and completed all the side quests to get prepared to fight Galdera. This boss is a challenge, I beat him at lvl 70 and felt miserable when I saw a guide how to beat him on level 45.
@@BowmansWorld Yes I did, the secret is Alfyn and his amazing restore BP ability. Anyway some secret bosses like Steorra are tough and need strategy. To defeat her I had to get sorcerer class first.
I have similar feelings. I loved it... but being an adult with limited time, it’s so frustrating to spend a lot of time on a boss only to get killed 30 minutes in. I hate it whenever my gaming time feels like a waste in terms of putting the time in, but not making much progress.
The final boss theme was so good I couldn’t wait to get back and try it again after I died. I did about a two hour grind session to get my lower leveled characters caught up and then beat it on my 2nd attempt. The final boss fight is perfect. A perfect test that you will only pass if you’ve mastered all of the combat mechanics in the game. I finally realized the value of certain skills that I ignored all game. I had to formulate a complete strategy to win instead of just attack a weakness or simply just attack like in so many other games.
One thing I did that really negated the grinding was have 2 separate parties. Doing 4 stories with one and 4 stories with the other. It really helps as all the characters will end up the same level by the end
@@Gameorama91 you can finish 4 characters' stories first (including the one you choose at the start), from start to finish. After that you can use the other 4 and start from their chapter 1s.
I grind until my main character reached level 45 and still couldn't beat some of chapter 2 bosses. Looked up online...boom! secondary jobs were a deal breaker for me
Love the shirt, Aggretsuko is one of my favourite anime in recent years. I share a lot of your sentiments towards this game. It's wonderfully presented but the visuals and the sound weren't even the best parts about it - I really loved the combat and the boss battles had a sense of scale that really excited me and pushed me to progress in the game. But I, too, drew the line at the post-game boss. I get that it's kind of an homage to the old school RPGs this game was descended from, in terms of having a hidden boss that's ridiculously difficult, but the fact that there's basically no way to do it except to grind the other half of your team that, by the core design of the game itself, pretty much forced you to neglect in your first playthrough, is to me a major flaw in game design. There are some things I really love about this game that I haven't seen done quite the same way anywhere else, but for me the bottom line is that it falls just short of being a true classic. Probably a solid 8/10.
Almost every JRPG has superbosses, they're a genre trope that has never really stopped being a thing. They're optional tho, so that's not a bad thing. It would be like people shitting on Final Fantasy X because Penance and the Dark Aeons are super difficult. You don't really have to grind all that much to beat it tho
Every one talks about how rough the grinding is in this game, but it's really not if you're a bit patient. Certain dungeons have those run-away cat enemies. The exp boost skill, combined with primrose strange dance, than magic... I went with all characters from 35-40 to 70+ in under two hours. Lol
The main problem I had with this game is that the character don't speak to each other ( I know there are some tales - like interactions but it still is very weak) but if it get better after some time I may give it another try
I really really liked it also, but it's definitely imperfect. I'm hoping that they learn from the issues here and make a sequel that ends up being a masterpiece.
Grazie, I've been looking at it for a long time. now more than ever, I agree to want to buy it. thank you for your words, I think it will be a good buy for me.
That's why I beat the grinding by playthrough the game with 2 parties, four characters and all their chapters, and then the ones at level like 3 and their chapters, also, the dancer job helps a lot in grinding, if you have luck, there's the bonus x5 EXP that makes random encounter a massive fount of EXP, so I could level up all my party members easily. I loved this fucking game, everything of it, and the music I stil listen to it... I remember arriving to Orewell and when that song started to play, I just had to stop everything and listen, it was magical, since Chrono Cross I didn't had that feeling of a song bringing me tears to my eyes by only arriving to a place, that was beautiful... I love this game
This is one of my favorite game on the switch I need to finish the post-game, But I can say, this is one of the best modern rpg of all time Can't wait to face the final boss of the game.... I am gonna go grind :v
The postgame is no joke. I had little trouble with any of the chapter 4’s. The extra shrine bosses kicked my ass. And the final boss is apparently waaay harder than any of those shrine spirits or whatever they’re called
I liked Octopath Traveler a lot too. It's a top 3 JRP for me on the Switch. Other than the final boss in the post game dungeon I did everything in it. One day I might do the grinding necessary to beat it but I need something like 10-15 levels.
the hardest part actually would be thinking how to distribute your party, since they have different weaknesses, and that if you lose in any battle you have to start all the battles since start.
Excelent game! I didn't have the struggles you mentioned but initially I was planning on challenging every NPC and that lead to Olberic being always at around 5 levels above everyone else (he was my main character so I couldn't take him out of the party). I was also goint to complete everything anyway so for the rest of the game I just swapped to the party members with the lowest level and also fought everything at least once. In most boss battles I had Olberic dealing damage while the rest of the party handled buff/debuffs/BP/healing/reviving. I did liked the challenge and thats why, usually on the optional bosses, Olberic was arround the same level as bosses and everyone else was below. The Jotunn, the Leviatan, all the special jobs bosses and the final boss where the hardest fights for me. Beated the first special job boss with Olberic at 52 and the last at 54 (their shrines are recommended for level 50), the rest of my party was between 39 to 44. By far the hardest fights for me, took me 2 days and lots of hours to beat them. The final boss took me 3 tries, it was very challenging and a super long fight but I'm glad it didn't turn out to be a pushover, Olberic was at 71 and everyone else between 58 and 60. I really appreciate the challenge and the boss battles lenghts adds a lot to it too, I had so many clutch moments with the special jobs bosses to then die close to their demise... The fight's lenghts really depletes your resources and forces you to take some alternative strategies in consideration.
Octopath made me love Jrpgs as a whole. I loved it a lot. There are some memorable moments I have with the game like when I took a lot of hours in 2 in the morning to defeat Balogar.
The worst part is, story wise Miguel is supposed to be recovering from heavy injuries and yet he is this strong without some kind of demonic possession or some drugs to power him up????
I've not played octopath yet although I do own it. Your review reminds me of the way I felt about Radiant historia: Perfect chronology. The characters, the music, the story, the battle system and even the voice acting were all perfect for me.
Everything except the battle system in radiant historian was amazing. I didn’t like that battle system. It was so tedious for me. Loved the game overall though.
This is my first Switch game, and Im glad people still play and review it. My personal experience is that if you approach it by tunnel visioning into a main party early, you will have a bad experience going through the story because of the level gap. But if you switch in and out after every chapter and balancing the levels, you wont need to grind to beat the final chapter bosses. Except the Last Final Postgame boss, I did grind few hours with the aid of thief rng dance skill to try to get the exp boost.
I have to say I mostly disagree with you. I love this game. I'm still playing, just finished all the chapter 4's and I'm finishing up the side jobs that opened after the relevant chapter 4 was completed. I for one like random encounters. It can be hard to get right in a game, but this game did it well. I find it very amusing that you knock the random encounter rate, take the skill that reduces it, but then complain that characters are underleveled. Well of course they are. You're skipping tons of battles. You also complained about having to use everyone in the game, but I thought it was well designed to, not only encourage you, but allow you to do so. I was glad for that part. For me, I would always trade out my party for the lowest leveled people I had after a chapter or dungeon. Therion was my starter, so he was of course way higher, but everyone else stayed fairly equal with each other. I had no problems being ready for anyone's chapter or a side dungeon. I say that with the admission that I haven't gone into the final, final area yet and may have to grind. But what better game to grind in than 1 where the battle system and music are excellent. Plus there's ways to increase encounter rate, exp gain and JP gain. I find it funny that you didn't touch on the one thing I have an issue with in the game, the side jobs. I like the system and the layout, but I wish there was some more help in the game. It would help if a character's name was visible when you could use path act as opposed to talking to them. As a 40 year old with a kid and a job etc etc, it's a bit tedious to talk to everyone and remember all the little things they said that may be hints for side jobs, even future ones. So I did look up a guide for side jobs. I did feel good when I figured one out myself, I will say that. Also wasn't a fan of how some side jobs or people involved were sometimes in lower level areas that people wouldn't really have a reason to go to. Like the last one with Impresario, in the beginning area around S'waarit, I'd have never walked through there and found it...
Thanks for that reply! I loved the game as well. It stopped me from playing FF7 Remake, which I’m still aiming to beat. I’m 40, married with a kid and I enjoyed the layers and systems it presented. H’aanit was my main and I preserved a different team to go through (led by Olberic) after her run: I did lvl them a bit from time to time. I thought the difficulty was fair. I only struggled against the “Devourer of Men”(I think that’s it’s name) and the Six armed (Windheimsomething) who was cool. I enjoyed having to stop and figure out just what was needed to beat them without using a guide. Very rewarding! I took a break as I put in 200hrs (my kid would sometimes play and open treasure chests then scream when a monster encounter would occur and hand it over to me lol!). Looking forward to this secret boss and ending I’ve heard about. 10/10 for me.
I agree with you there. Upon replays, I’m able to sneak past all the enemies in the upper leveled areas to enter the chapter 4 cities, even at level 10. The “random” encounter rates are CONSISTENT and can be planned around. It’s not like Pokémon where every patch of grass has a chance to spring a battle. In Octopath, it’s based on distance traveled.
@@Rexis102 After beating the game, I watched some speedruns and learned that the hidden "step counter" that builds as you move and will eventually lead to, as you perfectly stated, a "random" encounter, can be reset many ways. They would stop and save or interact with something, or go into a cave or shrine in order to reset the encounters. I never speed run and wouldn't want to avoid all encounters, but it's neat to be able to sneak into higher level towns as you said.
Edward Jackson exactly! It’s something that you pick up with time and get a feel for. With Therion as my leader, it just makes sense to be able to “sneak” into high level towns that I shouldn’t be able to.
The true final boss fight has to be among the top three most stressful battles I have ever played through. You have to beat 8 previous bosses THEN fight the final boss that has two phases, forcing you to use all of your characters. Oh yea, you can’t save between the boss fights either so...I died on the final boss twice and I remember telling my girlfriend at the time that if I died again I would quit the game. When I actually defeated the final boss it gave me the sense of pure accomplishment I don’t think any game has given me since maybe the psone days. I’ll never play through it again but it was worth it in the end.
I remember when I took 3 hours to beat one of the gods. The reward was that I took significant less time for each boss to follow. I also had three main chars + the character for the next chapter. Tessa was in a weird spot because she became the fourth Main whenever I had a story from a main character (and then she became a rune Lord, and I didn’t even notice that I Can side step everyone). And the final boss is fun when you broke your characters.
Great video Erick. You should do more videos like these. A more personal opinion about the game without being a review. And also that aggretsuko shirt is great! \m/
for your own sanity and well being i think you made the right choice putting it down Erick, because the true final boss is sadistic and leaps and bounds harder than anything else in the game. I'll never forget staying up to 3 AM after so many failed attempts knowing if i lose one more time i'll rip my damn hair out
I never had problems, skipped very few random Battle so didnt needed to grind to get level up. Exept the real last boss, the game was smooth. My Squad: thief, black magician, White magician, Hunter
I absolutely love this game. I had trouble with Miguel, and one more boss, as well as the Final boss. but I didn't have any too much trouble with any other bosses and I didn't do any grinding. I was able to beat the rest of the bosses fairly easily/quickly. I'm not sure why people call the game grindy. I had 3 really strong characters and even though the 4th character was weak, I just had him as my item user (both attack and healing) and was able to make the rest of my party carry the weight.
well i fell you man im an old school JRPG player but this game is a blast fell in love right off the hook , this game is amazing.. and oh the soundtrack and the battle system is awesome that main menu music., just makes me want to start my own adventure. thanks man!
I haven't played the game, but I agree that the grinding DOES take a lot of time. Unless you luck out some good experience multipliers form Primrose you're committed to hours of grinding. And yes, the final dungeon and final final boss are brutal. Plot wise though, they will tell you the subtle line that connects all eight characters.
love the video as always, one thing, random battle encounters are great when there a rate settings like in Bravely Default, where when you don't want any encounter you set to 0% and when you want to grind you set to 100%.... when grinding in Octopath it was just so many steps before an encounter, just the right amount of number to get bored, and yet the right amount of number when you didn't want any encounter, and they force you to grind since it takes a strategy for every battle that is different for every region and if monster is close to your level they were pretty hard... well in Octopath that's what frustrated me the most... and the fact that there was no way to speed up the battles or skip anything to make things faster...
The boss fight are just fine you can just fight them again and remember their weakness. The grinding is no problem too because the battle system and the battle theme is awesome.
I love this game for many of the same reasons listed here. The combat was very satisfying, especially when you nail a long strategic sequence, break the enemies defenses and then demolish them with a charged attack. I agree about difficulty spikes in terms of bosses. I only wiped out once the entire base game against Miguel, but there were some battles that barely I survived without my whole party intact. Overall a great game where the retro aesthetics and the battle system stand out.
I actually like/prefer random battles, but I 1000% agree with the complaint about grinding. I didn’t have to really grind for the main story (I stuck with 3 characters straight away and swapped in whoever I needed for the chapters) so most of the characters were fairly low level. But when I found out that the “true” ending requires EVERY character to be pretty high level, I quit then too (even though I was like 80+ hours in). It was an incredibly poor design choice by the devs.
I love it, too. But the final optional boss is soo unbelievably overpowered and hard like i've never seen before... I lost twice after fighting for hours with my best party and strategy only to find out later that there's a second fight directly after, which is even harder and with the other four partymembers. I gave up after seeing what's waiting there.
I just beat Miguel, and I totally see where you're coming from. It's wild just how many turns he can rack up towards the tail end of the battle! It's like if you don't Break him every single go around without fail, you're pretty much fucked. That was the first fight where I finally gave everyone a sub-job, and it would have been absolutely impossible without that. My biggest tip to anyone considering picking up Octopath is to absolutely visit the subject shrines for tackling any character's third chapter.
If you understand and use buff and debuff properly most bosses can be killed with fair efficiency. Some of the optional bosses are long, but in-game chapters can be slain in pretty quick fashion. It is a grinder but, as a gamer of the 1990's that just feels comfortable.
I still have to get to grinding for the final boss. Those gods for those advance classes were tough as nails. I love how much the battle system reminds me of Shin Megami Tensei as it's in my top 5 when it comes to combat. The game was hella rage inducing at times...
I got to the ultimate final boss twice and lost both times even after grinding everyone over level 60. Even using a large olive to resurrect with every character to over 9k health, everyone dies. And you have 10 final bosses and can't save the game at the final area.
Loved the game i believe their was a specific grind spot by an ocean where u could over level. I personally love random encounters i hate where u can see the monsters on the map thats dumb but overall the game was fire
same, and the encounter rate is more forgiving then ever in this game, between the encounter down skill that you get EARLY not late and the fact that changing screens resets the encounter rate completly you can do most screens with 0-1 total encounters
The thing that caused me to almost give up on the game is that somehow I didn’t realise I could fast travel until I was at chapter 3 for the characters so as you can imagine I spent a lot of time backtracking to grind, collect sub classes, etc which really tested my patience especially with the way I kept forgetting where to go and ending up in the wrong place!
Huh... I never grinded for the main chapters, just for the true final boss. I just kept switching out one guy and brought whoever's chapter I was doing.
I am the only person I know who beat the final boss, and I wear that like a badge of honor! And yeah, if you found any of the main-story content hard (I didn't, but I don't mean to patronize you if you did!); then you do not want to touch the final boss with a 30-foot pole. It's brutally hard and unforgiving and I spent hours upon hours prepping for the fight.
I would have enjoyed fighting the final boss until I beat it, but I'd rather play 5 other full games than to spend over an hour every time to get a chance to try again over and over.. I might have when I was 17, but not at 49 with 450 other games in my library I'm trying to get to. lol
I finally just scraped through the first half of the final final boss with my Ace party and realized I had to use my scrubs for the second even harder form and did the same thing. Screw that
I WANT to love this game - on paper I should. But I don't have a ton of time these days, and I can't stand that each random battle takes a long time and I have to work out all the weaknesses every single time. I'm sure it gets better later since I only got like 5 or 6 hours in, but maaaan, I don't want to be at 100% mental concentration for every single little (very frequent) random battle.
SPOILER: Beating Galdera is the ultimate satisfaction and the story is not complete and the world is not saved and the obsidians are not defeated until you fucking SMASH Galdera to bits.
It's honestly isn't that big of a grind if you don't get set into one strategy and one team. And all the bosses have a way to exploit them like stacking side step on your party, making a really hard boss to easy as eating cake. Usually I would take one try just to try to find exploits and weaknesses and if i do lose then I know how to beat them and what jobs I needed. It reminded me alot of bravely default and I loved both of these games and would highly recommend both
Well considering it's made by the same people who made Bravely Default then I also find it strange they didn't add the fact that you could change the encounter rate, also it only has part of the brave and default system so it's somewhat a familiar combat system if you've previously played Bravely Default.
I love how long the comments are in videos about jrpgs. Really shows the type of people us jrpgs fans are 😂 truly one of the most underrated gaming fanbase
Octopath shows the potential, classical jrpg have if they will have handcrafted open world, really good exploration element and the gameplay is not restricted by linear scenario. I have no idea, why such a gem received so much bashing from different sides. Octopath is the very same classic, but REALLY better in almost every aspect except may be storytelling.
I think Octopath Traveler is still one of my favourite switch titles and one of my favourite RPGs. Love the graphics and REALLY love the soundtrack. I wasn't aware at first, but the battle system can be quite deep. I never thought the game was unfair. Yeah, there is some grinding to do, but I mostly played one characters story after another. Then, after finishing every single chapter 1 I would move to the next chapter. (Btw, yes, Miguel is pretty hard. Probably the first boss who really kicked my butt) I also really enjoyed the end game content. Didn't know what to do at first, so I looked up which quests to finish. That's one criticism I have though, some of the quest are a little to vague. But after doing the 4 additional "job-bosses", man.... this really makes you feel like an overpowered badass! .....Until you face the final boss XD Damn, this was extremely tough. Managed to beat it though, on my third try. Literally jumped out of my chair, yelling: "YES!!!" Is it worth it? Nah, mainly just for bragging rights :P
The Worst thing was the true ending of the game, which is the true common point of the 8 stories linking them all. And how do you unlock it? By doing random sub quests without a real reason, then you go through a long boss rush without any way to save between or after them and in the end you face the true final boss. Which, for the first and only time in the entire game, REQUIRES TO USE EVERY CHARACTER. Getting through a chapter with an underlvl member isn't that hard, facing the strongest enemy in the game using them all is utterly impossible, and at that point in my playthrough they were FORTY LEVELS BEHIND, it would've required dozens of hours to farm those. Just ridicolous.
That was a great review, very honest, wish I saw this before starting the game and knew what was coming.. Specially the boss fights, that it takes the 80%of my switch lites battery
It's easy to play the same characters and use them consistently. This game makes you diversify and play all different team combinations, hence why you under leveled a few charatcers
Was my most looked forward to game in a looong time and my 2018 GOTY. Played the story perfectly imo by unlocking each character in a counter clockwise manner and then taking turns playing each character's chapters by the order I unlocked them in while using the character in question as my party leader, which made the flow to seem more organic and somewhat balance leveling each character. The 100+ hours my first playthrough took seemed to go by quick for me after it was over and left me wanting more. The secret epilogue dungeon and world-building made doing every side quest worth it. The scaling can be pretty crazy like you said, but most, if not all enemies besides the final secret boss felt too easy to me after unlocking the advanced classes, to the point I might not even use them in a replay. Or maybe it was just how broken the DPS can become when you stack certain skills. I actually want a hard mode in a sequel, lol.
I never felt Octopath Traveller to be grindy at all, but I should say that is because I played it more as a handheld game. Any spare minutes I had I would pick up Octopath and do a couple battles. If I was playing this on a console at a tv oh ya, I would have hated every second
I beat the game with literally no grinding. Zero. It is just scaled toward people who will play 90% to 100% of the content. It relies on you to rotate the party constantly to ensure all characters are leveled up. Battles are long and controlcentric. Which all suit me perfectly. Generally it was made for me and it is no wonder it is my current favourite jRPG to date (coming from a person with 15+ years of jRPG experience).
I've heard a lot of people complain about grind with this game. I'm really the only one who never have a problem with these? I just was constantly changing my party because from the start I wanted everyone around the same level. I feel like enjoy the game much more thank to this, because I learn how to use everyone in different situation and I didn't stick with a predetermined strategy as I do with other Turn Based JRPGs.
The thing about boss battles is that you have to use set ups to kill. Like lower def, raise atk, Olberic. The grinding is a little bit bad but it is horrible if you would want to go to max lv
My biggest gripe with the game is the final boss it’s so obscure in order to get to and the final boss it’s so insane almost impossible to beat without a guide
Honestly, the bosses aren't that challenging until the post game. The character story bosses are relatively easy. I'll tell you what the real problem with this game is, it's the fact that you need a guide if you don't want to miss any of the party banter.
The game was really easy for me, for the most part except for Galdera and Winehild. Maybe because i was a bit over leveled since I enjoyed the fights. I also try to level up in maps where im under leveled. I super love this game. 🙂
I agree with you. This game is in the podium of the best 3 rpg I have ever played at.. This game has something special and unique. Storyline is the best ever, I never missed a line or skipped a talk. You feel deeply involved in the story of each character. Soundtrack is stunning. Combat system is one of the most entertaining ever. I little disagree on encounters frequency..you can always flee from combat with no consequences or as you said you can use a special ability to have a lot less encounters. Grinding is only a matter of where and when . With good places and strategy you can literally fly in gaining xp for your party members. there are abilities to gain more xp and also perfect groups of enemies to gain massive xp very fast. They need to be all leveled up ..it gives ever more dept to the game. Boss fights are hard ..but that is the very best part of the game..beating them is a real challenge and lead to big satisfaction. What a great game!!
Sorry about the echo, everyone. I recorded this in an empty room. Anyway, rant starts at 3:43. Thanks!
Off topic, but what do you think happened to fire emblem? Why had the quality dropped alot since radient dawn?
Too much grinding this game.
You don't need to super grind on this game. There's a couple tricks to easily catch up lower level characters... the exp boost skill, together with one of Primrose's abilities, matched up with the cat enemies... dozens of thousands of exp.
@@mathewmcquay3943 I like this game just way too much grinding for me. But I'll look into what you're saying, thx!
@@lionheart1607 it took me less than two hours to take everyone from 35ish to 70+...
The Soundtrack of this Game is magnificent
I bought family Jules cover album of the entire thing. Amazing soundtrack and his covers were amazing too
I agree! I play the main theme in modded Beatsabre.
Did you notice that, the name of the characters represents octopath?
Ophilia
Cyrus
Therion
Olberic
Primrose
Alfyn
Tressa
Haanit
:0
Tessa and Therion should be reversed so that way it matches going clockwise around the map for their starting areas.
Nice.
Coincidentally I started with Ophilia and joined Cyrus, now I’m going to get Tressa. I was composing OCTOPATH without noticing it
I always liked the idea of separate stories. It's so difficult to make compelling narratives across 60+ hour campaigns that is relevant to your whole party.
We need a FF6 remake using Octopath's graphic style!
@@Demokaze I'm sorry, I don't realmy understand what you mean, could you please to explain in more detail?
Never gonna happen, don't hold your breath.
Speaking of the great soundtrack, I have to say it has one of the most badass final boss themes I've ever heard!
My favorite ever. “The one they call the witch” and “daughter of the dark god” completely blew me away when they started to play.
Hell yes!!
Final Fantasy VI had 12 characters each with their own stories and it melded together perfectly. Wish Octopath was more like that.
Octopath has much better combat though, both have their strengths
I wouldn't say "perfectly" (umaro, Gau etc)
And yea galdera is by far the hardest boss.
Also I has able to read your English just fine.
I know I also tried to get the rune lord class early at level around 35 and I won but that fight took me around 3 hours.
This boss is a challenge, I beat him at lvl 70 and felt miserable when I saw a guide how to beat him on level 45.
did u do the hidden and side bosses because those were quite tough
@@BowmansWorld Yes I did, the secret is Alfyn and his amazing restore BP ability. Anyway some secret bosses like Steorra are tough and need strategy. To defeat her I had to get sorcerer class first.
I have similar feelings. I loved it... but being an adult with limited time, it’s so frustrating to spend a lot of time on a boss only to get killed 30 minutes in. I hate it whenever my gaming time feels like a waste in terms of putting the time in, but not making much progress.
Why I don't play Souls games as an adult. I just don't have the time to repeat sections over and over.
I'd love to be 12 again for more game time!
Makes it so satisfying when you win tho
You still have grind them all with those advance classes, and that last boss
But you cant do that fully, your main character always has to be in till the end.
@@Gameorama91 you can finish 4 characters' stories first (including the one you choose at the start), from start to finish. After that you can use the other 4 and start from their chapter 1s.
Miguel is really unfair, until we understand that everybody needs a secondary job to break him quickly.
I grind until my main character reached level 45 and still couldn't beat some of chapter 2 bosses. Looked up online...boom! secondary jobs were a deal breaker for me
@@casualtap1794 I needed to search in google to find the shrine's location.🤣
My party was : Alfyn (of course) + Cyrus + H'annit + Ophilia
Now i finally knows the true reason why Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and Eternal Sonata Xbox Version exist in this Universe
this game made me a jrpg advocate, the mecanics are so interesting
Lol
Great video! O Bought this game last May and I'm playong this game slowing but I'm happy with my experience so far.
I picked Olberic as starter btw.
The main problem I had with this game is that the character don't speak to each other ( I know there are some tales - like interactions but it still is very weak) but if it get better after some time I may give it another try
I like random incounters
Wow the ost of this game. Especiallu the transition during boss battles man. Its so damn awesome
I really really liked it also, but it's definitely imperfect. I'm hoping that they learn from the issues here and make a sequel that ends up being a masterpiece.
The post game ties in all the other charters story lines together
Grazie, I've been looking at it for a long time.
now more than ever, I agree to want to buy it.
thank you for your words,
I think it will be a good buy for me.
This game scratched that itch so good I needed first aid.
This is one of my favorite game on the switch
I need to finish the post-game, But I can say, this is one of the best modern rpg of all time
Can't wait to face the final boss of the game.... I am gonna go grind :v
The postgame is no joke. I had little trouble with any of the chapter 4’s. The extra shrine bosses kicked my ass. And the final boss is apparently waaay harder than any of those shrine spirits or whatever they’re called
I need to defeat one shrine boss and then I am gonna grind so that I can Beat it.... it' s gonna be hell :v
Well I am also gonna do that aswell, although its a different game. Anyways, good luck on both of us.
Loving the aggretsuko tshirt
I love everything about Radiant Historia... except for the "do all these side quests to get the TRUE ending" trope.
I may be remembering wrong, but I liked how Bravely Default allowed us to adjust the random encounter rate.
Very eloquently put. I've had this love/hate relationship with RPGs so many times in my life, I sometimes wonder why I still play them.
I'll never forget staying up to 3 AM after so many failed attempts knowing if i lose one more time i'll rip my damn hair out
The prequal will be out on mobile on 28 Oct 2020 in JP. And a new console Octopath Travel is still in development
The grind in this game is brutal.
Finally someone that talks about the bosses HP, it's RIDICULOUS.
it's what turned me off So bad ugh
nah, once you get the 4 extra job, you can finish most bosses in under 10 minutes
Simeon is a commonly difficult boss as well.
well i fell you man im an old school JRPG player but this game is a blast fell in love right off the hook , this game is amazing.. and oh the soundtrack and the battle system is awesome that main menu music., just makes me want to start my own adventure.
The secret final boss that takes all 8 people to do is obserdity to the max I couldn't ever beat it after I got everyone to level 90
love the video as always, one thing, random battle encounters are great when there a rate settings like in Bravely Default, where when you don't want any encounter you set to 0% and when you want to grind you set to 100%.... when grinding in Octopath it was just so many steps before an encounter, just the right amount of number to get bored, and yet the right amount of number when you didn't want any encounter, and they force you to grind since it takes a strategy for every battle that is different for every region and if monster is close to your level they were pretty hard... well in Octopath that's what frustrated me the most... and the fact that there was no way to speed up the battles or skip anything to make things faster...
I finally decided to play this today only played for thirty minutes as the merchant I beat the pirates. And I actually like it a lot.
The thing that caused me to almost give up on the game is that somehow I didn’t realise I could fast travel until I was at chapter 3 for the characters so as you can imagine I spent a lot of time backtracking to grind, collect sub classes, etc which really tested my patience especially with the way I kept forgetting where to go and ending up in the wrong place!
ouch, yeah as spoiled as i think we all kind of are on things like fast travel im not sure if i could stomach this without
I might have when I was 17, but not at 49 with 450 other games in my library I'm trying to get to. lol
👑
I finally just scraped through the first half of the final final boss with my Ace party and realized I had to use my scrubs for the second even harder form and did the same thing. Screw that
Man, I had the same problem.
This just made me more determined to finish the end game content... I beat all the individual stories too... then holy hell it gets rough
I think that one of the hardest bosses is in a forest near of the town where you do Ophilia chap 4
I have nothing to complain about when it comes to the soundtrack
I had fun with the diverse combinations combat had to offer
I had to rely on bewildering dance to grind. Which is a huge gamble
MY FOCUS IS UNPARALLED!!!
cyrus best boi
I think Octopath Traveler is still one of my favourite switch titles and one of my favourite RPGs.
Love the graphics and REALLY love the soundtrack. I wasn't aware at first, but the battle system can be quite deep.
I never thought the game was unfair. Yeah, there is some grinding to do, but I mostly played one characters story after another.
Then, after finishing every single chapter 1 I would move to the next chapter. (Btw, yes, Miguel is pretty hard. Probably the first boss who really kicked my butt)
I also really enjoyed the end game content. Didn't know what to do at first, so I looked up which quests to finish. That's one criticism I have though, some of the quest are a little to vague.
But after doing the 4 additional "job-bosses", man.... this really makes you feel like an overpowered badass! .....Until you face the final boss XD
Damn, this was extremely tough. Managed to beat it though, on my third try. Literally jumped out of my chair, yelling: "YES!!!"
Is it worth it? Nah, mainly just for bragging rights :P
Great review 👌🏼👌🏼
I love random encounters
Squenix fans are like "oh no, he didn't hit me. I uh... fell down the stairs. He's a really nice guy. Honest."
It's easy to play the same characters and use them consistently. This game makes you diversify and play all different team combinations, hence why you under leveled a few charatcers
Grinding is life but I understand.... I rage quit a lot of times but it keeps calling me back ╥﹏╥
Was my most looked forward to game in a looong time and my 2018 GOTY.
I actually want a hard mode in a sequel, lol.
yeah even in maingame u can end most fights in 1-2 turns max but by time u get postgame classes 1 attack with no breaking just destroys everything
You missed the true final boss, then. What a shame. That boss is the hardest in at least a 100 rpg I've played.
The game where you want to fight in battles.....Nightode bring your shade.
I love grinding this game. I'm so glad they didn't share xp with out-of-party-members.
Well, I actually don't hate random encounter.. But if I have to choose..I prefer tactical strategy than turn based-randon encounter.
