    What's up DIY Fam!
    I have a pattern tutorial today in which I show how to make trouser patterns for women from scratch.
    I honestly forgot to add notches on the centre front & centre back of the pattern 🙈I will add them when I use this pattern in the future.
    However, I hope you enjoy the video & learn a thing or two 😉

    This is the tutorial I needed! So many other tutorials start with "trace a pair of pants that fit..." bleh. You explain the reasons behind all of the measurements so well!

    • @nikitatavernitilitvynova
      @nikitatavernitilitvynova 3 года назад +4

      This in my opinion is better because it allows you to alter the pants to whatever shape or style you want them to be. Finding pants to replicate for every style is hard and time consuming. This way knowing the whys helps you to alter them in places you want. For example after some digging through RUclips I found the best way to create a pair of pants with a pleat in the center. And with this tutorial + some research I found out how to make them best. And how to make pants that don't need zippers but elastics. I just take my butt measurement and add about 10/20 cm to the measurement and work with that. Then I add a wide knit elastic inside the waistband and there you go.

      Tracing an existing garment relies on the individual to having a properly fitted one that is also being worn correctly. This is quite rare.

    The best part of the internet and RUclips is how many people can be reached around the world.
    I'm watching in Tennessee, USA. I'm tryint to self learn how to design a pair of slacks.
    I watched another video from you about how to add a waste band. It was really nice. I decided to watch more.
    I think I am finally starting to get it. I have sewn patterns for many years, but this will be the first time I make my own.
    I think patterns get expensive and I never find what I like. I'm ready to make my own and my own style.
    You make it look easy.

    Priscillia! Thank you so much for this amazing video - I'm an awkward shape for off-the-peg clothing and I desperately wanted to make my own trousers. Now thanks to you I have just drafted my first ever pattern and the test leg looks great! I worked in my own measurements more heavily than you demonstrated in your video as you had an excess of ease in your test leg and my first pass came out super! Now I'm going to go watch your video on trouser pockets to make the ultimate pattern! Big love!

    Thanks, Priscillia! I love your channel. I am pretty stoked that this time you have tested the pattern to show us how it fits. I like seeing the full process of pattern-making, then sewing, then wearing the piece. I feel some trepidation about doing my own patternmaking because of "ease" -- knowing how much to add to my measurements to accommodate different styles in fit or different types of fabric. Otherwise I would get off my butt and do more than watch tutorials (and sometimes draft a pattern). I would sew more. I need help with that. Thanks, again from a devoted viewer.

    • @KimDave
      @KimDave  6 лет назад +3

      You welcome Cassandra.
      I wanted you guys to know what the pattern would produce and how it could be improved that why I tested it. Hopefully I can do so for future pattern tutorials in the future. The science of ease can really be resolved over time. After you’ve made some garments for yourself, you will know what works and what doesn’t. The first set of clothes I made were always so tight 😂 But then I started adding about an inch (or half an inch) depending on the style of the garment. But I suggest you try anyways. Experience is the best teacher 💪

    This fit perfectly!! The only thing is that I was soo excited that I didn't realize I needed a zipper/elastic opening first

    Hi Kim, Do you have any advice on adjusting the above pattern for men trousers or is it a similar process? I find your explanations very easy to follow. Keep up the great work :)

    That was great!! Ty so much for that. I like how you explained every line, and at the end making one leg in calico so you can checkout the fit. Also liked that you didn't add pockets or zipper, keeping it nice and simple. :) Take care
