I reached Shadowbringers recently and the moment i stepped into Amh Araeng, i stopped in my tracks and just listened to this track for a good 5 minutes because of how calming it was.
I still feel like the light effect being around is what makes this song song so good. So atmospheric for a land washed away in light, in a hot desert, desolate but grand. It gave it a mysterious vibe but also a hopeless one too, while still being beautiful and terrifying.
Dialogue in this part of the MSQ reveals Amh Araeng is actually cold -- cold enough to make you shiver. Which, for me is a fantastic detail: That blazing light in the sky might be bright, but it is NOT warm and welcoming and cozy. It is there to destroy you.

When I heard Amh Araeng was at the border between the flood of light and what was left of the world, I had imagined the theme would be straight up *depressing* , so yeah, quite a surprise.
I love how this theme just says desert. Like a full on, sand duney desert. Not a rocky desert like Thanalan but a sandy one. It has such a shimmery sound to it. Like heat rising off the dunes.
I was thinking in ragnarok too. Soundtemp has a particular way of composing field songs, you wouldn't think of using electronic music to a fantasy setting but somehow they manage to make it work.

Really was beginning to make a name for myself and started several trends (Big time flower power alchemist and dual dagger venom breaker assassin ohohoho the trolling!) In today's games it really feels hard to distinguish yourself from the crowd. Min/max gears with ideal skill rotations and things like that don't excite me. Gotta say I love FFXIV I was there from alpha 1.0 but I took a 5 year hiatus right when Heavensward came out because I was so displeased with the new direction. That said, I really appreciate it for what it is. They gave WoW the Final Fantasy treatment with characters, a storyline, and music that I truly love engaging with. Filled it with esoteric knowledge and shout outs to the Ascension of our own world. No, they don't make em like they used to...but maybe one day we can figure out how to capture those awesome games from our childhood in a modern way.
I love the depressing, sombre, yet ever so slightly hopeful atmosphere of ahm araeng in the 5.0 story, it’s part of the game that stuck with me the most over the years and the music is such a big reason as to why the atmosphere worked so perfectly, the slight feeling of positivity in the face of hopelessness and loss was communicated perfectly.
@Chrono Amiel as a dps, in my case it's always the tanks that afk and set us back in the queue. Literally always the tanks when this happens to me. At this point I'm convinced that it's intentional. It happens *way* too often.
This song elicits a tone of such loneliness and hopelessness, with just a bit of light hope sprinkled in. Perfect for a quest about caring for the doomed.

There was just something about this music, it sounded sad but also relaxing. It was so attractive and amazing that I didn't want to leave and turned off mount music. Did this for Rak'tika Greatwoods too.
If you haven't turned off mount music because of Yangxia in Stormblood, Amh Araeng will phyiscally cast out a sandy hand from your monitor and choke you until you do.

I cant help but get this melancholic yet hopeful feel from it. The beat of it also sounds really reflective like it gets us, the wol, to reflect in the events that caused shadow bringers and the situation of amh araeng
You kinda knew this expansion was special early on when you first heard this track. And it never let up, even through 5.3. I do not envy the team working on 6.0...
I was absolutely in love with the music when I entered the area... it has the feeling of barren land, in another world, and the voice feels like laments because of all of the horrors of the flood of light
Just got to Shadowbringers and this song took my breath away. Had to look it up immediately. Riding my mount over the sands with this song playing is such an incredible experience. It reminds me of those chillstep playlists I used to listen to in the 2010s! So nostalgic and beautiful!

Yeah, it's got that sort of sad and ominous feeling to it that really matched the whole story in Shadowbringers. The song also worked really well at the beginning when you meet Alisaie and find out about the people's suffering. I remember right after the cutscene where Tesleen turns into a sin eater and this song played I was just thinking, "wow this is really heavy"
I went here first and gotta say I loved the zone, I feel like what you learn here is a good setup for Kholusia's bit. Both equally as unnerving lol. Can't wait to see the rest of the expansion areas!
The music does an amazing job at adding to that otherworldly and desolate feeling. It helps remind you that you’re on another world that has almost been completely annihilated.
Let's remember how this place was the point minfilia stopped the flood. And where the legacy (and pain) of the minfilias began. Makes it even more dramatic

The place where I live is experiencing a massive heat wave with almost nonstop clear skies and harsh sunlight every day. This song is what plays in my head every time I step outside.
First introduction to Amh Araeng: "This is a nice relaxing song. Real chill." When Tesleen is forgiven: "Ah, this song isn't relaxing at all. It's a requiem." Context is a hell of a thing.
I love this theme. I think this gives a bit of a nod to FFXIII-2's Village and Void which is also the overworld theme in Lightning Returns at the Atomos Sands in Dead Dunes. You can never go wrong with an awesome track like this playing in a desolate sea of sand. Perfect combination imo
I just finished Shadowbringers myself, and I must say, I absolutely love this track. It’s a nice drop of relaxation in what feels like such a charged story, with nonstop action.
When i first arrived to the zone I caught myself walking around avoiding all mobs for 20 minutes just to listen to this track. By far my favourite theme from the expansion.
This sounded familiar from the moment I heard it, and it bothered me for an hour trying to place it, until I realized how musically similar it was to the style of music in Metroid Prime.
I knew i wasnt going to be the only one who was gunna love this track when i heard it. I love how different they went for a field BGM. I cant explain it but reminds me of like old mmo feel from like 2003ish-2006ish games.

I knew i wasnt going to be the only one who was gunna love this track when i heard it. I love how different they went for a field BGM. I cant explain it but reminds me of like old mmo feel from like 2003ish-2006ish games.
it instantly reminded me of ragnarok online

This theme punched my emotions in the face in the best possible way.
This song just puts my mind so at ease... Then I think of Tesleen and the feels take over...
