    I bought a 2014 Volvo for $48k in 2018 with a fresh inframe, then over the next 3 years spent $65k in maintenance, parts and repairs. Then in December’21 I bought a 2001 Classic XL 84” bunk 12.7L 60 series in excellent condition for $42k. I’m willing to bet over the next 5 years I won’t have half the headache with it I had with the 2014. Not worried about a parts shortage, to many junkyards where you can pull parts clean ‘em up and use them. I don’t think older trucks will be phased out until maybe 2035 and by then I’m either dead or retired.

    Another option is a truck with an assembled title. Take an emissions truck pull the engine out of it, install a Pre-emission engine in it, go to the DMV get a new VIN number and title …there you go. A modern day glider kit.

I highly recommend them to anyone driving these new useless-junk-electronic trucks. I was actually 'broken down' derating and the software cleared the phantom code. • @BlindBatG34
    @BlindBatG34 2 года назад +5

    In theory if you had a small restoration shop and could pick up decent trucks for $30k, invest $50k in parts/labor and then sell the trucks for $100-120k there is probably money to be made. However with the current price of used vehicles and the messed up supply chain you’d probably end up with a lot of money in limbo with half built trucks waiting on parts.

    • @truckingandfixing
      @truckingandfixing  2 года назад

      Theoretically it works. But the market is so volatile, we don’t know if the price is still high after the truck is finished. Plus it needs a lot of money.

    • @BlindBatG34
      @BlindBatG34 2 года назад +1

      @@truckingandfixing Very true. I did some quick math and assuming you could restore a truck in 90 days with 5 guys and a shop rate of $200/hr with 1/3rd being profit you'd still make more money just running a standard HD repair shop with less risk/investment. Still restoring older trucks sounds fun and rewarding.

      Perfectly legal because you didn't remove any emissions, but now you don't need a ELD, trucks with engines 2006 and older didn't have any more than a EGR system for emissions and nobody cares about that, it's the newer 2007-09 had dpf filter, then in 2010 they started injecting DEF, into the exhaust system to make the filter hot enough to burn the soot out and keep the filter flowing

    • @cargotoolshop5319
      @cargotoolshop5319 2 месяца назад

      Yes you can, but if you understand the ISX that you probably have in your truck, I would leave it alone until your engine is junk, then run, my father T600 with ISX gets better fuel mileage than my 2000 Freightliner century with a 60 series Detroit, just saying and it's quieter and has more power, and again what makes you money, better fuel mileage, but I personally would walk away also, unless you know the engine your going to put in your truck it's a gamble buying any used engine, I'm in the process of getting my truck back on the road, it was fully rebuilt, I know this from looking at brand new pistons, but they never changed out the liners, I pulled it down just to do liners, the head gasket won't hold the pressure anymore, only about 25K miles on the rebuild from what we are guessing according to old records
