The 1969 tour could aptly be named THE MONEY SHOT TOUR cause this was the tour where the Stones delivered and earned the sobriquet '"The Greatest Rock and Roll Band." It was on this tour that they played with a ferocious on the edge intensity that they never matched again as at the culmination of this tour the Stones outlaw persona hit the asphalt at Altamont where they met some real outlaws in the Hells Angels. In 1972 the Stones substituted energy for intensity that they couldn't keep up and by 1975 they were bloated and sloppy Jet Setters riding high on the past acclaim. So here it is the opening concert on the 1969 tour where you hear Jagger cajole and growl like Lucifer himself while Richards riffs sound like a howl from Hell and Taylor's soaring counterpoint sounds like a heavenly choir. But what made this tour extraordinary were the introduction of the songs Jumping Jack Flash, Stray Cat Blues, Sympathy For The Devil, Gimme Shelter and Midnight Rambler that crossed and recrossed the line between sanity and madness*. For much of this materiel's genesis came from the swirling emotional chaos wrought by the disintegration of Brian Jones, the Stones drug busts and the uncertainty about the bands future. So when you hear these songs please remember his name for after this tour the "little twerp"** didn't think he was Lucifer anymore. * Even Jagger said that whenever they played Sympathy the audience would get "weird" ** Ry Cooder once said, "That the little twerp sic Jagger thinks that he is Lucifer."
i was at this show,my first Stones show, and I remember how pissed Keith was - banging away at the amps during the first song. He was doing Pete but with real anger!
I think that's Sam Cutler doing the apologetic intro, although Mick and Sam do sound alike. I'd read that The 'Stones had all kinds of troubles at the Oakland Colusium. Thanks for posting!
Thrilled to see Oakland back on the Tube. Hope it stays up. Why no Gimme Shelter? I think they played it for the first time that night, and it was one of the meanest, rawest Shelters ever.
Shidoobee, It's Sam Cutler. It's the similar pauses/phrasing that could fool people; they do sound similar. Glad to hear clips from the fabled '69 tour!
Mick Taylor is the best!! It's beyond money now. Mr. Taylor made the Rolling stones the band what they were then. Sadly, drugs made it difficult to function as band mates. 1969 to 1974, it just was a very different era. It's to bad, it's the nature of the music business. The music business is very unforgiving.
Shidooobee, Larry's correct. I'm guessing you're Stateside, so it makes it slightly difficult, whereas I'd only need to hear one word from Jaggger and know it's him. Certain proof that this is Sam Cutler may be found with the interview he did for KSAN, on the extras within the Criterion edition of the Gimme Shelter DVD. Also compare Sam's intro with Jagger's before Prodigal Son...entirely different voices, accents, intonations etc.
to make LIVE R THAN YOULL EVER BE, did the person record both shows then select the best tracks for the release? That probably is sam cutler at the beginning. was it recorded from the crowd?
MichaelHansenFUN @ Yes using a Sennheiser shotgun mic!!⚡💪 Fucking balls/ brilliant!! UNPRECEDENTED! Rubber Dubber boots gave us Ya Yas !!!👊👊👊☝️☝️☝️ Ya Yas FUKKKING EPIC!⚡ THANK YOU RUBBER DUBBER DUB MIKE TAYLOR AND KEN TRADEMARK OF QUALITY 🐷
Does "Satisfaction" sound like Plastic Soul to You? This version is harder than Otis Redding's all because Monsieur Richards is hammering away at his Guitar frantically like a Mad-Man possessed! Fuck! Sounds like the Boys were out for Blood on this Night! They played three Blues songs in a row and I thought 'hey, how can they get away with playing other people's music three times in a row' but what they were doing was they were just warming up the audience for the Grande Finale. Cheers! Thanks.
At this time no doubt with Mick Taylor’s solo playing as well as backing Keith’s rhythm this was the best rock and roll band on earth.
Thank you for posting these great shows!

I recall reading something about ol' Keef tossing his plexiglass git-tawr into the air when the power died.

Around 3:14 Keith's amp blows. Then they switch to acoustic numbers while the crew ran for the Grateful Dead amps.

Great show. Looking forward to part 2's 'Late Show', tomorrow.
you're right pal!
First played at Fort Collins November 7th.
Wasn't Fort Collins about a week earlier, like last week of October? First show of this tour.
I think they were in LA or San Diego on the 7th...Fort Collins was late October, the 1st show of the tour.
perfect
The Tarantura Records release includes both concerts performed on this date in their entirety .....
richards perfect.

you should have kept the other one on here the one that was blocked because the set list is a great guide for the set list of the 2nd show...
For some reason, They didnt' play Vanc. BC; Seattle or Portland That Tour. Probably money reasons.
