    I was fortunate enough to be at this show. Detroit wasn't even on the scheduled on the 78 tour and the Stones basically showed up at the last minute. 3 other friends and I snuck in the back, ran up some stairs, down a few halls, through a door and there we were. I remember it like it was yesterday. Seen them every year since 75. They never disappoint!!!

      Me and a friend also snuck in the back door via the fire esacape. Sat on the steps of the balcony and watched the whole show. One of my best memories from the 70s. Tickets were being scalped for as much as $250!

    This demonstrates why the Stones are great. They have five guys playing as a whole, excellent sidemen (keyboards) and a tremendous entertainer in Mick Jagger fronting the thing. Keith to various degrees and states of mind is the orchestra leader, and the soul of the operation.

( in a Spanish brothel on my 16th birthday, a present from my father) I love all the Stone's era, but here they sound tough, funky and a little punky. Keep going!!

      @@user-pp9rr7ze4h I don't think so...I've always thought they were at the peak of their powers at exactly this point...and up to '81. I think the glacier-sized amount of great material in the vaults is testament to that...and they were fierce as a live band on this tour. Ronnie's crude, slashing style was ideal during these breakneck shows.

    This show was a bummer memory for me. This was a surprise show that was announced on the radio I was listening to that tickets were now (and I mean right this %^%$# instance) available. When I heard the announcement I was toiling on the assembly line making Cadillacs on Clark Ave. in Detroit. One of my work mates instantly became "sick' and left to get tickets. By the time he got off work and got there the tickets were gone. CRAP!!!

      keith welsh I recorded the king biscuit flower hour show I still have it on cassette this one sounds like a slightly different performance here and there as I listened to it 100 times because I’m a guitar player… But first, an oboist and I think I have a pretty good ear

      I agree. Lost the cassette that I recorded off the radio but the mix and solos on this are as I remember. Maybe the two shows were combined on this release.

    Most is Detroit but I know that "pink for keith" before Tumbling Dice I heard on another show. At least we're not paying $30 like decades ago in a comic book store!

    • @Yodaismycopilot
      @Yodaismycopilot 8 лет назад +1

      +apolonio0907 I believe that was "pick for Keith." As in "Keith aint gotta pick..anybody got a pick for Keith???" Possibly Garden State '78 but not sure..

  • @ownage3523

    What does Mick say before they play Tumblin' dice at 59:46? I've heard him say that exact thing before in other concerts but can never decipher what exactly he's saying.

    Are you sure this is the Detroit show? This sounds an awful lot like the Memphis show of the same year. I recorded it from the King Biscuit Flower Hour and although I lost the recording, this sounds exactly the same. For some reason, I remember them opening with Sweet Little 16 at this show. Maybe I'm getting old and can't remember. Can anyone confirm?
