I had no idea about the tree generating add-on in the first place! And the Shrinkwrap is quite clever to use in this situation. Thank you! Also, you CAN get the box back after you create an object/curve and click away. Just press F9. Doesn't work if you do any action in between, grab or scale or whatever. But it certainly helps when you want to rotate a vieport while adjusting the "box" settings.
Life saver! Blender really needs to fix this so the box doesn't just disappear but instead just minimises to the bottom left corner or something so we can still see and access it if we accidentally click something.
Wow, just came across this one. Insanely nice work regarding the root conforming to the surface. Will need to watch this one a few times. This one got missed by the community with only 9k views so far.
You had the right tutorial at the right time for me. I made a Bonsai tree with this technique and I think it was marvelous for the time I made it, almost two o three months since I started learning blender. Today I'm revisiting my saved tutorials and found yours, It encourages me to make another bonsai sort of thing. I hope you're doing it well and luckly you'll make new tutoriales soon!
Another clever way of using the shrinkwrap mod to add to my shrinkwrap bag of tricks. Thanks for the tutorial. Still waiting for the Mask Tools series. BTW everyone, if u haven't bought the Mask Tools add-on I highly recommend u do.
That was so cool, creative problem solving at it's best! thanks for sharing; I have some alternate ideas how to use it, I'll try and if it works, let you know.
how does the hook modifier stop the object from becoming flat when it is shrinkwrapped to the ground object? and why does this only work for curves and not geometry? i tried this with a copy when the roots were converted from curve to mesh and the geometry flattened against the ground.
Heh, that was my first question when I started watching this. After learning this very clever root generation system I was hoping he would mention the shading. Well, now I know the secret. Fix it in post. :)
Always found this add on very unintuitive to use, and it generates too dense a geometry, good for closeups but useless if you want to make a woods, wish there was an open source version of something like speedtree
The problem with doing that is the bridge wouldn't be uv unwrapped, while the rest of the tree is by default. This would mean having to unwrap the whole base of the tree again and then making it match in scale to all of the branches.
MA! Where's the like button... The LIKE button... What?!.... No I dint say I like bottom... THE LIKE BUTTON... you know what never mind........................ Did you really read through all that?... wooow [shaking head in disappointment]
Pretty slick. I didn't know about the Tree Add-on. When are we getting a Dinosaur generator, and maybe a Super-hero movie creator? Modeling, animating, texturing, and rendering is too hard for us average idiots. We want the right to call ourselves 'artists' at the touch of a button.
For those getting flat geo, don't underestimate the whole process, adding the hook modifier is vital for the roots to stick out of the floor
Thx mate, I tried it after watching, ignoring the hook thing and had to come back to (rewatch and) notice your comment ^^
Wonderful idea using the shrinkwrap to to get the roots to follow the terrain

Your tutorials are crazy good. You're the Ian Hubert of in-depth tutorials.
I knew that at some point I would need this tutorial, the time had come, thank you very much, the roots look great.

Really interesting workflow! Wasn’t aware there was a tree addon.

Thanks Daniel! Theres a rather lengthy video on MASK TOOLS coming very soon. :)
Thanks friend. A very useful tutorial taught some new techniques.
Thanks for the tutorial. Modular tree addon which is free comes with a root system. It is much easier to make roots in modular tree.
This tutorial is great! Thank you!
Really excellent stuff. Nice work!
thank u so much for a nice tutorial and a nice tool
One of the perfect tutorial i've ever seen.. thanks
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing sir, upload more tutorials please.
Thanks for this tutorial!
Nice tutorial and idea!
Fyi: you can use "bridge edge loops" instead of merging all vertices by hand.
Or if you get them close enough you can use Mesh > Merge > By Distance.
Love your tuts buddy! Thanks and mask tools its rocking cheers:)
Learned a lot, thanks for the video!
Love these tutorials!
Neat video never thought about using shrinkwrap that way :)
This looks great!
Thank you a lot! Very useful
Ho my! Ho my! Thanks a lot. Great tut.
Wow really useful I must share!
Fantastic ,thank you for sharing :)
Awesome !

thank you!
This is amazing!
Sweet!
I like this.
Thank you
Awesome
this video is a hidden jewel😱
thanks for your work its really helped me 1sub+
thanks
COOL!!! THANKS!))))
Great video, thank you! Should have watched this months ago instead of hand modeling the roots with worse results.
👍👍👍
Clever
is there a way to get this sappling tree sample menu back after clicking the tree?
otherwise this is a pretty destructive workflow...
Thank you sir, glad I found this channel =p

How do you make the leaves look good, like real leaves instead of rectangles?

How to make the roots keep their general form? Mines all deformed like a flat plane.
V.v.v.v handy
How is the painting like style achieved in the render?
Tetrini Just render it and load it into gimp or photoshop and run a filter on it
Its filter in GIMP. Go to filters-artistic-oilify :)
@@WaywardArtCompany Thank you for letting me know!

Is it possible to create palm trees with this addon?
Unfortunately, no. I wish they would add that to the preset options. :)
how to make vines at the tree ?
Always found this add on very unintuitive to use, and it generates too dense a geometry, good for closeups but useless if you want to make a woods, wish there was an open source version of something like speedtree
Modular tree addon, it may not be as advanced as speedtree but still cool
11:13 bro just bridge the edge loops....nice tutorial though

when I do this - several times the mesh is squashed flat . . . any idea whats causing that?
Answering my own question - moving the shrink wrap above the hook modifier is critical
@@johnstainton Ah, yes. That's very important.. I maybe should have stressed that more. :)
