Lon can’t miss out on The Young and the Restless. Never know what is around the corner for the Newman family. Is Phyllis coming back? Does she go crazy again? Is she in Jail? Who will she marry next?
Don’t think you mentioned it, but all of this is “FAST” (Free Ad-Supported TV). So one will see short 2 minute ads periodically.
Love the Plex content, keep up the great work Lon!
Thanks Lon,
Very nice explanation made me start using Plex again
This is awesome. I had no idea Plex offered so much free content, without a subscription, even. And it's deeply integrated (e.g., can be mixed with your over the air satellite channels, as well). Really impressive.
I'm honestly a bit surprised it doesn't require a subscription--which certainly makes the lack of DVR a very reasonable tradeoff. I assume it must be ad-supported?
This is a nice contrast to the awful, awful, terrible "free TV" built into my parents Android TV-based TV. It's a random app you always get dropped into by accident, and it's just a completely unorganized, confusing pile of stuff. :P
had no idea putting my faves in order was possible, thanks for the info!
Lon! Thanks for posting this video
I've been a Plex Premium subscriber for what seems like years now but only use them as a media server for movies. I'll have to give this a good look over, however I'm not much for watching TV and my wife mainly watches major networks so if they ever get those, we could conceivable switch over.
Great video something to looking into. Thanks.
I have lifetime Plex and also Channels DVR per yearly subscription. Channels integrates Pluto and I can DVR. Plex can't record live TV? I thought I might drop Channels subscription at start of this video, but if Plex Live can't DVR, that's a big hole in the service and I will stay with Channels / Pluto.
I have my PLex Server on my desk top loaded up plex added live tv and got the menu you show but that is where I could no longer follow your examples. on a line I went to the show I liked, then moused over to the channel and wanted to add it to my favorites but.... all it would do is play, no drop down box like you showed. Is that only available in the premium version of Plex?
Here another tip also use a VPN for those not in the US. It works great 😃
Hi lon was wondering if you could help me out, I recently bought a ipad for my daughter for a long flight and using the vlc app I was able to airdrop movies to the ipad pretty seamless. Is there a app similar to plex that will give me posters and movie info with videos stored on the iPad. That doesn't need to be online.
the channel selection looks very close, if not the same, to the selection that i get from roku's "live TV" function. looks like the same thing to me, but its good to have an alternative
It seems a bit ironic that they don't let you record those live streaming channels with their built in DVR. I often find TV shows I would like to watch, but I'm not staying up until 3:00am to see all the episodes. Not being able to time shift these channels is too inconvenient.
@5:40 not to shabby , gonna be a nice day
They should change when selecting a channel to putting it on the top right as a preview instead of when selecting a channel going immediately to full screen
How did you search?
Imagine you go out and you meet a taking dog named, Ragula, of whom, works as a DJ for Roku channel 324. Who watches these free channels when 2-12 are free with actual content?
❤
Broadcast OVA dmv has over 50 free channels.
❤❤❤
I do not have the option (the three dots) to sort my favorites. Do I need to enable it in the settings
Which platform are you on?
@@LonSeidman Thank you for responding. I am on the Mac platform. After looking for a while I was able to resolve the issue. Under the favorites section, each station has a reorder option. Thanks again.
Yeah! Scripps News
Am I the only one who does not have the live tv section on the sidebar? Maybe I removed it when I setup the app on my fire TV. I tried resetting customizations, but it is still not there.
I remove it on purpose. No thank you to adds and data analytics on my viewing habits.
This is an easy one. I just remove all the Plex channel crap from the side menu and never think about it.
Most channels are repeats of Samsung Plus and Pluto.
I just think we're post "linear" tv. I use Plex as a media repository so that I can stop watching linear tv. Seems strange to me that Plex would invest in this as it seems to me the antithesis of what Plex started out as. I won't be using this feature.
This feature is aimed at competing with RUclips as far as the "I have free time and want to watch something right now" demographic. A well organized list of things to watch right now with no time-shifting keeps things simple, lets you get your ephemeral media fix, and move on. It's certainly the nicest free TV implementation I've seen in a while.
Like you said, we're pretty flush with great choices for time-shifting/non-linear TV. :)
I fear that PLEX is on the way out. If you watch the same streaming channels on Pluto and PLEX, you'll see that the Pluto channels have ads. The same PLEX channels have unpaid filler. No ad revenue is clearly not a good thing.
I haven’t watched the whole video yet but I’m sure live NFL is not what is meant by “NFL recently added!”.
It’s the nfl FAST channel
What worries me it's a paid video ad. So when I'm watching I need to take that into account.
Yes and it’s disclosed at the beginning
@@LonSeidman always find you to be unbiased, even with a sponsored video.
Dude... Lon is, almost to the point of annoyance, always upfront about when stuff is paid or sent in. Even when he reviews stuff like $30 Rokus he is upfront about if he got it free or not. We can all say by heart, "I paid for this with my own funds and no one has approved or reviewed this content before it was uploaded." He's pretty much the gold standard for influencer disclosure...
@@benfreeman6175 I just can't trust a paid ad about a product. I can only speak for myself. Why because they're not going to give me anything negative about the product.
I. Hope. It. streams more. Smoothly. Than you’re. Talking. In this. Video.
I doubt you'd ever share your voice with the public, Dave. No need to be rude.
