    The TITAN was one of the best Chekov's Gun in Lower Decks. I did a quick search on how many times she was mentioned in LD. Epi 4, Boimler makes a casual remark about her, Fletcher got promoted to the TITAN in Epi 6, and then she shows up in all her jazzy glory in Epi 10! By extension, we can now surmise that the CERRITOS and the TITAN were part of the same fleet assignment. I still want my SANTA ROSITA to show up sporting a Big W.

    • @ReddwarfIV
      @ReddwarfIV 4 года назад +12

      It was also mentioned earlier in episode 10, when Captain Freeman decides she'll take the _Cerritos_ to investigate the distress signal instead of having the _Titan_ go do it.

      Another Chekhov's Gun in LD would be the shuttle Sequoia, which is the shuttle that the Lower Deckers are seen working on from time to time (for instance in Ep. 8, when they talk about Roga Danar and Khan), which Shaxs and Rutherford use in Ep. 10 to reach the Pakled ship.

      It's Star Trek BY Trekkies, FOR Trekkies. It just happens to be an animated comedy that's pretty darn hilarious.

    • @jonathonearl482
      @jonathonearl482 4 года назад +2

      I agree! I myself predicted the worst in the show before even watching it. After watching the first episode, which wasn't that good I still was not convinced it had potential because the comedy was overdone. As I continued to watch it, it was getting better with each episode as well as becoming more serious. The comedy level drops significantly! Animation is on point with background scenery and viewing of the ships. The characters don't look as realistic as the remaining scenery but it passes (the characters look more like bobblehead figures). A huge amount of ships to explore on this show, which I always believed previous Star Trek shows didn't show enough ships. When it comes to displaying ships on this show, The RUclips channel Trekyards really benefit from this and they love it! I'd tell the critics to just watch the whole first season before deciding not to give it a chance. It's not a perfect show. Though, the critics will most likely find out that there is a great deal more positives than negatives within Star Trek LD. Overall, this show has great potential. Star Trek LD is also classified by the creators that it is prime canon. Compared to Discovery and Picard it's far more closer to canon in visuals and etc., fits right in place with all Roddenberry Star Trek shows and movies TNG, DS9, Voyager, ENT, TAS and TOS. I'm actually very impressed with the show, and that means a lot because I'm a very strict grader and the show has to be very intriguing on my behalf. I'm extremely picky with my shows and movies. Yes, there are a few jokes but they don't focus heavily on the humor and it's been kept to a minimum.

    6:23 - Special photon launch effects, USS Titan, 2380.
    *Headcanon:* The phaser-like pulse from the weapon pod is an experimental *nadion* *enhanced* *photon* *torpedo* *system* (NEPTS) designed for increased photon torpedo effectiveness when engaging shielded targets. The nadions surround the torpedo and weaken the shields of a target before the antimatter payload is triggered.
    Future iterations may include different nadion arrangements----a focused nadion "spike" leading a torpedo may increase photon torpedo shield penetration; a preprogrammed scatter of the nadions off a specialized proxy-fuse torpedo platform can increase the chances of finding cloaked ships----numerous possibilities.
    The system is experimental, confining/focusing highly-destructive nadions to an antimatter torpedo may either be too risky to use constantly or too power-hungry to maintain, so a usage protocol is created for the weapon restricting the enhancement rate (which can be, with proper clearance, overridden ofc). For now, the only testing platform is the photon torpedo, zero-point energy and nadion proximity have not been tested yet (quantum torpedos).
    The system is part of the reason why the Titan "does kick all the ass."
    That headcanon or some vfx guy took some liberties and I am overthinking, but still, it is just my headcanon since LD takes place in 2380 and there could be new types of advanced, specialized, or experimental photon torpedos we have never seen.
    [*Btw For those who don't know, nadions are the fictional particle behind the phaser beam's destructive power.]

    > Why is an animated series more accurate than a live action? Bit weird.
    Lower decks almost certainly isn't taken seriously by the brass at CBS, which would explain the apparent latitude they've been afforded in writing and production. Guessing business expectations are low or nonexistent beyond padding out filler Star Trek content to pump All Access viewership, so less micromanaged mediocrity.

    • @richardjohnson9543

      I suspect if they could do it over, CBS wouldn't have allowed Bryan Fuller to totally redesign and retcon so much for Discovery but now it's done and we're all stuck with it, at least on the live action end. But with an animated series this could mostly be ignored. It will be very interesting though to see which Enterprise 1701 shows up on LD should they ever choose to depict it.

    Minor issues with the green and red navigation lights: If you are seeing the Titan from its starboard side of the ship you should be able to see the green lights on the ships starboard side, and be unable to see the red lights on the ships port side. If you are viewing the Titan, or any ship for that matter, from the port side, this would be reversed and you'd see the red lights and not the green lights. It's all based on the idea that when maneuvering around in close proximity, the ship on the right (starboard) has the right of way and if you're the ship on the right, you'll see green lights on the other ship telling you to proceed. Contrarily, if the other ship is on your right, you'll see red telling you to stop. This is how it works on boats and planes today so I assume that's what they're supposed to be going for with the red and green lights on Star Fleet ships. Klingon ships would have all green lights as they just run right at each other and play chicken to see who gets the right of way.

      @Rising Horizon Gaming Generally, it was one degree of separation from canon. TAS used several things established in TOS (or from its development) - Tribbles, Harry Mudd, sehlats, that Captain April was first captain of 1701, but the movies and the other series weren't bound by 99% of it as canon until they showed something as canon in those forms. I think the only TAS elements that were canon from just about the beginning were some of the Spock/Vulcan backstory (written by DC Fontanna, maybe?)
      LD did reference TAS a few times over this first season - the image of TAS Kirk & Spock, the Vendorian shape-shifter in the Andorian bar, and ... (I'm trying if LD mentioned giant clone Spock 2 or if that was somebody in a comment box)

    Why do Next Gen ships have such huge windows? Next Gen ships are much larger than the TOS counter parts. Windows help denote the scale. Enterprise Refit and the Excelsior both have small windows lining the saucer section. You can almost count the decks. You cant do that on next gen ships as easily

    What I liked about the Titan was that not only did they animated the phaser ring correctly, but did anyone else notice that it always fired from the top ring and top ring only? Just like the Enterprise on TNG almost always fired from only1 ring at a time despite having multiple phaser banks.
    I also agree on the goof on the navigation lights. The centerline navigation lights should definitely white since the red and green tell you which side is right and which is leff and whether the ships is coming or going in relation to you, having white lights in the center (assuming they're only on the dorsal side) tell you whether you're looking at the top of the ship or the bottom.

    if you go by registry number starfleet only built 300 ships between the original enterprise and excelsior, but built over then thousand ships between the defiant and the titan. mind you when the excelsior was built the enterprise is said to be forty years old. the titan and defiant can't be more than a decade apart. sorry but for a federation with hundreds of planets pre-dominion war starfleet wasn't much of a fleet.

Anyway, wouldn't be unprecedented, TNG once showed a phaser beam coming from the torpedo launcher, and I just saw a clip of a Miranda class firing phasers from the sensor dome rather than the phaser turret (I think the clip was from the Wolf 359 flashback in DS9's Emissary)

Watching these reviews confirms the hopes that I had for the series before it was released - it's made by people who like Trek and get what makes Trek special - and fun. Comparing what I see in these reviews, compared to the garbage that was Discovery S1 and Picard S1 (both of which I hated)- shows that the animated spoof/comedy is far superior to the live action shows in every way. This is a show I actually want to see - I will not watch Discovery/Picard again and I have zero interest in section 31.

    There is a reason I try to hold back judgement of a series until at least the end of the first season. First couple of episodes I did not care much for the show. They all seemed to be yelling CONSTANTLY and the jokes, well they fell short IMHO. The saying "Before you can fly you must walk'' seems to fit here. I enjoyed the back half of the season and must admit it left me wanting more. If that is not the sign of a good series I don't know what is.
    That being said I gave Disco 2 seasons and it's just not for me. I may come back later but for now nah. If it works for anyone else, hey I am happy for you and honestly wish I could join you. Picard I liked. Sure it had it's issues and I am Trek enough to admit I dismissed more of it then I would most shows in general. It's Patrick Stewart. It's Jean Luc Picard. If I am to give anyone the immunity idol for a season, it would be him. So I go into Picard S2 optimistic.
    So ATM current Trek has a 2 outta 3 from me. Least it's better then Star Wars 2 outta 6. Star Trek is fighting back and Star Wars can only go up from here so there is still hope.

    Now when it comes to Discovery I believe many people would agree that the number one problem Trek fans have with it is it's placement in time within the prime universe. If Discovery was classified as a Section 31 series, an alternate universe or maybe placed 300 yrs after the events of Voyager it would be more relevant to previous Gene Roddenberry Trek. Even if it was classified as an alternate universe to the Prime universe of the Roddenberry TOS universe, it would be more relevant.

    ruclips.net/video/ED-YjeKywZc/видео.html
    Yeah, this is pretty much it. I just can't find the correct words to descibe what I felt when the scene happened, I think we all know the feeling I'm describing. The way it was done was simply perfect. The mix of beauty shots, mixed with human interaction through the viewscreen. Even the tactics used and outcome of the battle were correct and logical. The Titan was probably still heavily outmatched. I mean, 1vs3 massive ships with up to 33 different weapon systems? But jumping in head first, guns blazing and causing panic and forcing the enemy to run away despite their advantage, that is precisely what should have been done in that situation.

    • @BoroMirraCz
      @BoroMirraCz 4 года назад +1

      @@Tuskin38 Exactly. People who keep posting this stupid video seem to ignore that Picard is set 20 YEARS after Nemesis. Even Sovereign would be an outdated design by that time. Do people really think that Federation would design no new ships in 20 years? Of that the Federation would not learn and send a hodge-podge fleet of outdated ships to battle?
      I don't think the Picard scene was particularly great, but this is not an improvement. This edit is pure fanservice with no logic. The best possible version would be a mix of the two - a fleet of the modern advanced cruisers with some screen of these old designs.
