I am 45 years old, and I've been living this way for many years. I've just always thought of myself as an earthy, old soul, cat loving, bookworm. I didn't know there was a word to describe this kind of beautiful way of living until watching your video.
@@aamiwaami why thank you, be the best version of you. Have a lovely day!
@@TJ-kz1ul i want to live like you!
I was going to post and say the same thing but I'm 58!
Same here…I’ve grown up in the country and just recently have I truly learned to appreciate it and realize that it’s where I find peace, surrounded by nature and simplicity. Just now I’ve learned the word and style to put to the kind of life I enjoy living, and I’m glad I have because it’s opened up so much for me
I know this just life in the country. Especially when you’re younger and have no car or WiFi. I grew up no WiFi or phone half time no car. So you have fine fun things to do. And second hand all we could afford. But guess cool now lol.
I said It once and I’ll say it again,
Anne of Green Gable and Ruby would literally be best friends
agreed
So true
That is so true-
If you are Anne fans, and haven't read the Emily of New Moon books, or, my fave, The Blue Castle, oh are you in for such a treat! I also firmly believe that Montgomery is the only author who should be allowed to describe sunsets, because no one else can compare.
Yes! Them together with Hermione Granger ❤❤❤
yesss ruby is the queen of the cottagecore aesthetic
a high compliment indeed 🐭
Can we please say she is queen of every aesthetic ❤
Dark and light academia as well
Lovely, love from Amsterdam
@@Trintintwin No. Because imagine Ruby Granger being a Goth. Seriously think.
Me, a city rat who's never been in the countryside nor have ever had a garden: °taking notes° growing ... your ... own ... food. Interesting!
There is nothing better!
literally sitting in my 10 m*2 room whose windows overlooking the highway and think absolutely the same
I've always lived in the countryside, in an amazing location, at my parents place, and now I'm confined (again) in my apartment in a city that I hate for the third time but can't leave because the internet isn't good enough to work at my parent's place. noooooo ;; (and I just turned 26 it's time to grow up aha)
Hahaha ‘walk in the middle of nowhere’
@@bergamotemcdonald7672 Must be super hard for you since you know what it feels like to have space and nature :( lots of love and support to you, I hope things open back up soon where you are so you can go sniff some flowers in a park or something xx
i wish we all had the privilege to live the lifestyle best for us
True. One way I embrace these when I cannot afford to live them is thru my pinterest. I create a board and collect photos, websites, articles, book covers. It is fun and helps with stress so much.
We all can do atleast something like shop seasonally and not buy fast fashion. 😊
@@citigirlmichebudgets3357 True. One thing that helps me is romantizing even the smallest details of my everyday life. Gardening with my mom is also a part of my cottagecore aesthetic and it’s healthy for us and the environment. I would definitely suggest trying these out
@@citigirlmichebudgets3357 I do this too! But as much as I love it, it also makes me feel this intense sense of pain over what cannot be. It feels like starving for years with a pie across you that you cannot reach, that never goes bad. It just sits there in all it's pie-like-glory and I can never take a bite of it.
Can I come and live with you? Because the guy two houses down the road from me was arrested for making Chrystal Meth in his basement, and I think that whole meth-lab-on-my-street situation is really going get in the way of living the cottagecore lifestyle.

@@RubyGranger8 I love watching your video when I don't have motivation.
For other VERY cottagecore artists I really recommend: Fleet Foxes, Gregory Alan Isakov, Bon Iver, Billie Marten, Patrick Watson, Jose Gonzalez, Lord Huron, Ben Howard, The Paper Kites, The Lumineers
Love all of this list
I'm gonna add a few more james Vincent Mcmarrow novo amor, axel flovent, paper kites, hozier(like dark academia/cottage core), iron and wine, taylor Swifts folklore.

I've always thought the ultimate cottagecore queen is Miss Honey from Matilda.
yes!! and her house - ugh, it’s so gorgeous
I do want to give a quick disclaimer for making your own plantbased milk. Do keep in mind that store bought plantbased milk is usually fortified with calcium, B12 and sometimes other vitamins as well, which, especially if you're vegan, are very important!
That being said, I love the idea of making your own plant based milk, just do keep in mind that it doesn't give you the same nutrition as store bought plantbased milk :)
For anyone who is a fan of Anne of Green Gables, I recommend the Road to Avonlea television series. It's based on the book series of the same name and was also written by L.M. Montgomery. Thank you for this lovely video, Ruby! 💛
Omg as a Canadian that show was my childhood 🥰 I’m so glad the cottage core aesthetic is bringing more attention to it
I can 100% see her as a fairy, she's definetly the queen of the cottagecore aesthetic 🌱🗝️🕯️🎻👒🔔🧚🏻♂️🧝🏻♀️🌷🌾📜🍵☕🕰️🌬️🐌🐚🌸 ( I tried to look for all the emojis who fitted the aesthetic lol)
For any fans of Beatrix Potter, the biography by Linda Lear is fascinating! Beatrix Potter was an amazing storyteller and artist, of course, but she was also a scientist, a land conservator, and a farmer, amongst many other things. (Her botanical art is STELLAR also!) That book was one of my favorites I read last year.
Thanks for the recommendation I had no idea!! 💚

I feel like cottagecore isn't so much an "aesthetic" all the time as much as it is a lifestyle. And honestly, I love it so much.
Ruby is Queen of Productivity☕️🌿🧸
A week ago I finished Anne of Green Gables book and I loved it soo much. I think in our life we should be patient, lovely ,friendly and also we should be the biggest nature lover just like Anne Shirley and Ruby :)
I must say I absolutely adore your channel! Even as a 50 year old woman I learn so much and appreciate all your insights. Thank you for sharing, you are a sweet soul ❤
12:50 I would love, just once, to hear the animated Secret Garden mentioned. It flew so under the radar but it was A. adorable and B. a big part of my childhood.
Cottagecore is my favourite aesthetic!!
Have you watched Liziqi's videos?
Congrats on 600k! Thank you for making everyones lifes easier, you really changed me in 2 months! I started studying, waking up at 5:38 with the sunrises, and most importantly I finally have motivation!
As a city girl your world is so far removed from mine but I still come to this channel because I love the way you authentically live your truth and do it unapologetically. It takes great courage to not live the way most young adults live today especially on social media. Keep doing you! It’s so refreshing to watch x
But she literally is following aesthetic trends from social media
@@operacz_9327 this is not a trend people are doing en mass. The trend has high engagement because it’s an aesthetically pleasing form of escapism. Your average gen Z is not cultivating a vegetable patch in their back yard on the weekend
Thank you so much Ruby for creating a place where I can discuss my likes without fear of teasing. It honestly makes my day every time you post 😊 Once again thank you so much
Ruby voice is so calming and I love how she speaks whit a slow pass ect.....
Ruby's videos are so relaxing and beautifully done. Ruby, you would be amazing at narrating audio books 📚 You're so soothing to listen to ❤

feels like home!!
I am a "homesteader" type here in America, and wanted you to know I really appreciated this video. Homesteading is about stopping and smelling the roses, to borrow a cliché. This video has reminded me to be a rose. Thank you!
Wow! Ruby, this has got to be the best video that fully captures the cottagecore aesthetic. Your video and your kind spirit have enlightened my day! :)
I have that Beatrix potter story collection book, my great grandparents bought it for me for my first Christmas and it’s the most precious thing I have! 🌼💛
This video, like many others of yours, really make me think about ads in YT videos. Having spent quite some time watching "men's fashion, style, grooming" etc. videos, which is a heavily sponsored "industry" (cause that's what it is, an industry), I can tell when a video is made for the ad and when it just contains one, without drifting away from the its actual subject. I love that about your videos! They incorporate ads but advertising doesn't dominate, thus making it not at all annoying! Bravo!
Ruby has a gift ~ to conceptualize and create such beautiful videos. It'd be so sad if she had never opened this channel. I am so glad she did ❣
Anne of the green gables is a GREAT SAGA it’s my favorite one...i think that another cottage core movie is the sound of the music. Thanks for this video Ruby!!! ❤️❤️

Wow I’m blown away by this video. The shots here wow! And thank you for this video so perfectly informative.
Thank you for mentioning the Greengage Summer!! That book doesn't get enough attention and it will always haunt me in the best way possible!
Wow! I’m heading into cottage core and I didn’t even know. Thanks for the insight. This will make my videos much better. I can’t wait to share more of my slow living. ❤️
Hello Ruby :) I wanted to say that you literally saved my life this year. I'm at the final year of university and through these 6 years of studying medicine i relied mostly on last minute work and luck, I wasn't used to regular studying and I didn't know how I would pass my final exams. Your videos gave me the motivation I needed, and I've just finished my first week of exams - I got the highest grade in all of them. I wanted to ask if it is possible for me to write you a thank you letter - do you have a PO box? Don't ever stop creating and being yourself - the world needs people like you! Also sorry for my English - I'm Polish and it's not my first language :)
Hi Ruby, I really enjoy your videos and like that you are commited to sustainability. But I am a bit disappointed about your Treedom sponsorship for a few reasons:
First, they help big global companies like McDonalds, Samsung or Ford with greenwashing. For example, McDonalds planted trees with Treedom that supposedly bound 8.801.025 kg of CO2, yet in 2017 alone, McDonalds emitted over a hundred times that amount of CO2 equivalents. So the trees planted by treedom for McDonalds had no real impact on their emissions, but it was a good opportunity for marketing themselves to environmentally concious consumers. Same for Ford: Ford trucks Italy is featured on the treedom website because they planted 400 trees. That is absolutely nothing for a company that size and really, if a truck manufacturer wants to be more sustainable, then let the design of their trucks be the measure of that. Planting these trees for these companies lets them seem green to the casual consumer and helps the companies to evade more relevant criticisms of their practices.
Second, I think they overcharge quite a bit, a seedling only costs them a few cents and they sell the tree for a much higher amount.
And third, planting trees is often inferior to letting a forest develop somewhere naturally, because that naturally developed forest will be more resilient to environmental changes (including climate change), longer lasting and have more ecodiversity. This is also a lot cheaper! And the absolute best strategy is of course to preserve already existing forests, so that might be a better suggestion for people looking to donate money and help the environment.
I think it's really cool that you are invested in sustainability and I'm sure that a sponsorship from Treedom seemed like it might make a positive impact, but I would like you to at least be aware of the problematic aspects :)
i relate quite a lot to this aesthetic as a small/countryside city girl. loved the video. thank you for the incredible content, ruby (as always) 💕

Off-topic, but I LOVE your voice. It's so calming.
I love how you added that clip of your mum accidentally dropping the teapot lid haha 😂❤️
This encompasses the cottage core so wonderfully! Love your videos! A book/film recommendation especially for those in Australia is Joan Lindsay’s ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’. The depictions of nature and landscape is brilliant. As a text it is also interesting to take a post colonial perspective when reading and analysing.

I love all of your book recommendations! I would add the works of Jean-Jacques Rousseau (a true OG naturalist and a favorite of Marie Antoinette who is probably the queen of “aesthetics”. She definitely tried her hand at cottagecore
through her work at the petit trianon). Also, even though it’s not strictly a cottagecore book I would recommend “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn”. It is my favorite book of all time. I read it twice a year. And Francie lived cottagecore in her mind. ❤️

I don't understand the value of aesthetics, exactly. I guess for someone like me who is not quite well-off financially, having to buy a new wardrobe and invest in a lot of objects/trinkets to achieve an aesthetic seems like too much. And especially if you don't have the free time to build your life around an aesthetic, it also seems like something that's out of reach for most. Is it like dress-up or pretend? And does it actually represent your interests and personality, or do people just switch aesthetics to fit whatever is trending online?
I agree so much with this. It seems a very elitist aesthetic. None of this would be possible without the pretty cottage in rural England, the clothes, accessories, the privilege of having a large garden. Not to sound bitter, but it's definitely aimed at a specific demographic!
@@TAYLORALEX2008 Yeah, I guess this is what I'm getting at. I'm a bit put off by the idea of being able to curate and essentially buy a personality. These trends are growing a lot more with platforms like TikTok and Instagram spreading the idea that your "value" or marketability as a person lies in how well you're able to replicate an aesthetic. And usually, it's those who can afford to go all out with aesthetics who get more followers and are thus able to capitalize off their image to make more money. And most times, it's just an act. Idk, I just feel like a lot of "aesthetics" feed in a lot to capitalist modes of being. Even something like cottage core, which seems to challenge modernity, falls into that consumerist trap and comes off as fake.
I agree with you, I feel like trying to fit an aesthetic is like trying to hard to be someone you might not be.. just be yourself and do what you want to do and what you can do. I'm not saying that Ruby is like this but it reminds me of the people who'd wear band tshirts without having listening to the band, just because they're trendy and not because they actually like them
It’s weird if people are not genuinely interested in aesthetics they are portraying, I don’t think most people would do that but there’s probably some weirdos out there only doing it for money. I think of aesthetics as just a way to express yourself/what you like. Your personality can be very different from your aesthetic because aesthetics are represented through external things and decor basically. Not necessarily your nature. Also a ton of money doesn’t have to be spent if you craft your own decor and art or second hand shop, try and incorporate what you like into those things. Everyone has their own aesthetic and it can be anything they want, make it “your” aesthetic. Lol i’m so invested in this I just wrote a novel.
Maybe just follow your chosen aesthetic in the books you read or the music you listen to instead of trying to model your life around it? To me that seems like a more realistic approach 🤔
you are so sweet Ruby always keep smiling stay happy and stay safe!!!😘
