I find the silence scarier. Mainly because there is nothing that can accompany, it helps with sight through ears. I use my ears in the game like my eyes. Around 3 30% of the way I control my player depends on the sounds near me, and trust me it's scary.
suspense_7 (2:44) is what DayZ Mod was to me in the early days, when you had no idea what was up in the north and you got excited everytime you saw a new city until you finally found the nw airfield.
Suspense_23, 10:05. I remember it so fondly... I was driving across a bridge towards some kind of radio tower island on an empty server utilizing a non-standard map. It was pitch black in the middle of the night, pouring rain, and I was in a black SUV I fixed up to mint condition myself. It was a very strange, and peaceful experience. I slowed down, switched to first person, turned off the car lights dousing myself in darkness and just listened when I heard it along with the rainfall. My room had no lights but the computer monitor, and it was sometime around midnight. Never forgot that feeling, seeing nothing but my green hud, feeling there, knowing its completely dark and my character is chilling in a vehicle like I was at my desk.
I listen to these melodies and tears well up in my eyes. I really love Arma 2 DayZ Mod and generally DayZ. So many memories, so many cool days and nights. There are tears in my eyes and I'm not ashamed, because this is a game - a masterpiece! Legendary game!
I want to visit Czech Republic someday and hike across real Chernarus while listening to this. These ambient tracks created such a unique atmosphere. A huge dark region in eastern Europe with abandoned industrial cities and small towns. It was the perfect experience...
Yeah it's so bad they have no ambience at all and why even remove it, it's fine as it is just keep that in the original game also. No need to fix something that is perfect really, sometimes it feels like Rocket miss what actually made this game what it is. Removing important stuff and adding shit we don't really need.
The game is in Alpha, it's probably coming later. If you actually took 10 minutes of thought you can see in the options a volume control for music. So be patient.
Too bad they aint in the SA. Nothing worse when you walked around at night while throwing a red flare at the barn ahead of you, hearing footsteps of another survivor crossing the dirtpath just next to you. Followed by the eerie silence of the track ending, you call out, no response. Never sure if you were stalked or not. Say what you will, but these tracks really added to the spooky/unnerving atmosphere.
Ohhh how this brings me back to the summer of 2012 when I first started playing! It was so damn fun when I was completely fresh and had no clue what I was doing. The Zeds were actually scary at that time! Now they are just.. annoying. The lack of music in the Stand Alone really kills the suspense, but I hope they will fix it soon enough. Hell, they could just use this soundtrack and it would fix everything!
Yea man i miss old dayz so muchhhh i remember i got it christmas day ha it was such a blast. Actually like getting geared mad long and NW actually being a threat. now its just play epoch and get best items in the game all from like balota xD
Lack of music - I just have this going in another window ruclips.net/video/Y7Ux7gp1mYs/видео.html It'll be a good fit for Namalsk when it drops if there's no music in it.
Fuck dude, such good memories, DayZ mod really broke new ground, back when you were actually afraid of zombies, and sneaking around to loot, even crawling, was viable. When you didn't know what to expect when meeting someone, they could rob you, they could help you, shooting on sight wasn't the only option. Back when night time rolled in so you had to turn up the gamma to keep playing, spawning on the same server with friends and trying to meet up, and learning that firing the Lee Enfield in town was a death sentence. Nostalgia all day. 6:40 and man I swear that played every time I was in Elektro
suspense 20 remains the best song from the OG mod soundtrack. I swear I'd always hear it when I went into the factory districts, i wonder if it was meant to trigger like that
Dayz nostalgia right here. The time before we realized we should turn off post processing and music to get an advantage. Back when the ladders were an enemy to truly fear.
This is the most extreme nostalgia experience possible, sad that dayz mod is basically dead and the servers that arent are all overpoch origins militirised starter kit dmr spawn
Brings back the first time i ever played dayz. Was on Namalsk and i literally had no idea where i was going, what i was doing. Completley lost and clueless. Found shit guns for days until i found an AKM. Played solo and i saw 2 people in the main city sky scrapers. Absolutely shit my pants and my heart was pounding like crazy. Managed to kill one but the other got me first. What made it so epic was this music and being so clueless. It will never be the same experience again.
great times man. the best time of my gaming career was a summer when i was in highschool and my two friends and i played on a cracked server because i was broke as shit but it had anywhere from 20-50 on at all times. eventually i bought the game and we moved to an epoch server and from then that's where it fell off when school started back up and/or jobs came in to the mix. i always enjoy playing for a bit now and again, i'd like to play 14 hours a day working on becoming the top dogs of the server but my friends and i unfortunately don't have time for that anymore. I've recently gotten in to game developement and i'm trying to recreate DayZ mod as it was. obviously it's garbage right now but in less than a year i should have something pretty close in terms of mechanics. the reason H1Z1, the culling (i believe it's called), and many other survival type games couldnt give the same feeling is due to the movement/combat mechanics as well as the visuals of the engine. in Arma 2, no matter what time of day on what map you're on, it always has a depressing vibe. that's a big part of what made it so good for the mod. slow combat, scary/depressing visuals, ambient sounds, slow clunky movement, it all came together so well. i can't stress enough how important the slow movement was. if you could jump around and run fast, it definitely wouldnt be the same. while dayz standalone comes close, i personally liked when PVP and PVE was a 50/50 tradeoff. it seems like in dayz standalone PVE takes up about 80% of it. i don't care for the degradable items/clothing, or the fact that you're hungry every 5 minutes, i more care about looting and working my way north to set up camp. i was never an Elektro deathmatcher, though readily available weapons were important. i'm rambling, but ive studied what made the mod so great and why nothing else can recapture that feeling. not even arma 3. Arma 3 doesn't have that gloomy depressing vibe like Arma 2 does. i couldn't play life mods on arma 2 just because of how goddamn depressing it felt no matter how happy the situation. thus, that's why i loved dayz on arma 2. DayZ on arma 3, to me, just doesn't fit. it's clearly a mod, whereas dayz on arma 2 feels completely natural, as if it was meant to be in the game all along (if you disregard the glitchy zombie mechanics, which in my opinion were pretty cool. being chased? find yourself a pine tree lol). idk man, DayZ will always be the game i've had the most fun on. the game that had immersion like no other game had or likely will have. no game made my heart beat so fast or learn to not trust strangers lol. DayZ Mod will live on, because no other game can replace it. there will always be people willing to play this amazing game. a single full server is all we need for a great time. so as long as 60 or so people stay active for the years to come, dayz will continue to be the place for me to go when i need the best gaming experience ever.
Sitting here in 2023 and this soundtrack actually makes me homesick. 2012 was the last summer i lived at my mothers home. I loved the evenings as a young student playing all night on the weekends and the window next to me wide open. During the night in Dayz sometimes there was the sound of birch trees whizzling in the wind. In reality i also had a birch tree in front of my window. Whenever i hear leaves of a birch tree i have to think about home. I miss it.
It was the year I purchased my first (and overpriced) gaming PC. I can't quite recall what had drawn me to it, perhaps a twitch stream. In any case, it was one of my first games on PC. Joined up with a dedicated server with it's own community and at the time, forum. I reckon I was fully immersed and dedicated to that game and community for the better part of 2-3 years. I'd play almost every day. And now here we are in 2024. The website long since shut down and what few players that were part of that community in my friends list, are now basically strangers. I've not played standalone in a hot minute, but I come back to it for a few weeks on a yearly basis with an irl friend. I'm sad these days are gone, but I'm also grateful that we all got to have a brief moment and piece of our lives enjoying the unique game that was DayZ mod, and DayZ standalone. I hope today's standalone players can partake in these communities like we did, but most importantly, I hope everyone from back then are doing fine today, wherever they may be.
I wish they would implement these sounds again into Standalone :( It feels more like Zombie apocalypse and gives the game more Atmosphere than Birds now..
As a composer, it's actually surprising to see that most of these are just stock textures from Omnisphere... I love them in game, but it's basically all stock samples.
I got my new pc last year. Discovered dayz - discovered arma 2 - discovered the dayz mod. Its amazing how "sunk in" to the game you can get having this music on. Nice to see that the servers are still busy enough to play these days, when I discovered this in the winter, when the weather was dark, misty and gloomy too, its the perfect game. Thinking of going back on.....
Listening to this running though a forest or a field in the nothern parts of cherno upwards to the nwaf, then just a loud bang making you jump out of your chair followed by a black screen with the text "you are dead"... Memories
if any1 still even plays the mod, back in 2012 my uncle played this game all the time and told me to try it out, but since i had a real shit pc i couldn't, today i have a somewhat good pc but man, playing it today dosen't feel the same back in 2012 where i didn't even knew the game was about zombies
#28 Reminds me when its about to get full night time and you are scared as fuck outside cherno... also you can hear the zombie crowling 10 feet next to you.. while you are prone... crying
Waking up in Stary, only to realize that the world was- missing. And something, somewhere, went terribly wrong. This music helped dayz mod first time the most nastalgic moment in my gaming monopoly
I like the fact that the music makes you even more paranoid about your surroundings and whats behind you, I was playing this while sniping some fellas on Namalsk (Best map for soundtrack) and as soon as I shot the two guys suspense_16.ogg - 5:20 played. And I looked behind me and there was a fellow bandit with his hatchet so I ripped him a new one. That's paranoia for ya.
Glorious music... remember the memories of that time. a story of being shot and killed while wandering in an empty city, memories of being chased by zombies and chased again...
Reminds me of the 90's era industrial-drone bands like Zoviet:France, Hafler Trio and Einsturzende Neubauten. Which is all my perm fav, so this is pretty damned good
Bronze Gamer Ill leave it for now. Got it when it came out on steam to support the development but they made more money than Star Citizen and it doesnt seem to help or speed up the things at all... when they add some core things(respawning zombies, whicles) ill give it a try again. But at the moment its a lot worse than the mod in my opinion
I know it's my mind playing tricks, but I like to thing it always starts to play whenever I suddenly see a particularly large group of zombies after cresting a ridge of a hill, a la 28 weeks later.

Suspense_26 is my favorite. Me and 3 of my friends went into koskovo with AKs and MGs and gunned down zombs while i was listening to this. Made me feel more badass.
12:55 dat feeling when you get to cherno
Especially as a hero
Ahhh, flashback ;_;
So fucking accurate. However. It reminds me of raiding crash sites

It's funny how I just knew it had to be *THAT* sound.
This shit needs to be in the standalone, when you played the mod for the first time and this kind of music started playing you fucking shit yourself.

I wish this ambient music was in the standalone.
So do I, it needs it. Amps up the creepiness and tension
Matt West i made a playlist with the mod music for standalone :) just uploaded a video on it

A better time.
27 is so atmospheric, i like it better than the others.
This should be made into a mod. Would love to have this music back in the game.
#28 Reminds me when its about to get full night time and you are scared as fuck outside cherno... also you can hear the zombie crowling 10 feet next to you.. while you are prone... crying
dalecapo Or when you are in the middle of nowhere. you hear shots and see a flare in the distance.
Oh god, what a good times... I still use this music when playing DayZ
SA needs this. This music reminds you that in dayz, you are ALWAYS in danger, ANYWHERE.
Waking up in Stary, only to realize that the world was- missing. And something, somewhere, went terribly wrong. This music helped dayz mod first time the most nastalgic moment in my gaming monopoly
hopefully this list makes a return to dayz SA
13:04
I remember that, and the nights in Chenarus.
That was of course before I turned the music off because it was mostly a distraction.
this one was my fav :D
I absolutely ssshiit bricks every time "suspense_7 & suspense_8" plays in-game. Such uncomfortable ambience... and creepiness is real.
Ah yes, the true DayZ.
31.01.2021 I miss those days
Glorious music... remember the memories of that time. a story of being shot and killed while wandering in an empty city, memories of being chased by zombies and chased again...
Music was half the success of this game.
i remember these because i had music on in he very basic stages of dayz, and listening to this reminds me of the good old dayz
Reminds me of the 90's era industrial-drone bands like Zoviet:France, Hafler Trio and Einsturzende Neubauten. Which is all my perm fav, so this is pretty damned good
спасибо за треки!
порадовали меня))
давно хотел такое))
suspence 20 is the best
it is dayz
yeah I love that one... Miss the music in SA... SA actualy sucks right now
nomercy8989 well they have to fix the bugs and stuff :P but once vehicles are in it will be good
Bronze Gamer Ill leave it for now. Got it when it came out on steam to support the development but they made more money than Star Citizen and it doesnt seem to help or speed up the things at all... when they add some core things(respawning zombies, whicles) ill give it a try again. But at the moment its a lot worse than the mod in my opinion
my favorit is 26
The person who made this soundtrack is truly alive.
suspense_8.ogg (3:02) when you spawn near Chernogorsk at the sun morning... Come back me my 2012!!11
I know it's my mind playing tricks, but I like to thing it always starts to play whenever I suddenly see a particularly large group of zombies after cresting a ridge of a hill, a la 28 weeks later.
12:55 Favorite ^^
One plays this noise that sounds just like an MTVR slowing down and it gets me every time because I think someone’s rolling up on me
Suspense 16 is iconic man
Holy shit, this is like a horror game. Standalone needs this!
Meh, SA is more ment to be a simulator. Would be nice though if there would be an MP3 player as item, though.
I love the suspense 7 & 8 !! It scares the shit out of me sometimes but i love them!
Feels very silent hill-ish. I LIKE IT.
Pseudocide Yup ^.^
I feel you. XD
Also i think DayZ was the best whean i first played it i knew nothing oh the memories :)
stinger 1 makes my spine shiver every time I listen to it... eghhhh....
Oh my god, 6:40 brings back memories.
Hope this makes a comeback in the standalone... That and the same zombie noises, i kinda got used to hearing those particular ones.
Ahh, those were the dayz...
Anybody here miss the good old alpha :(
suspense 7 and 8 always scares shit out of me, and 20 is somehow creepy and horrifying. They all bring awesome atmostphere to the game.
The Best Horror and Scary Soundtracks Ever make in Videogames . Thanks for This Video
they need to bring this back, makes it much more atmospheric.
I hate, and also love, when the Suspense_7 and Suspense_8 noise pops up, really startles me.
Needs to be in SA for extra muh immursions
Suspense_26 is my favorite. Me and 3 of my friends went into koskovo with AKs and MGs and gunned down zombs while i was listening to this. Made me feel more badass.
Suspense_26 is the best. That weird rhytm always fascinated me.
Yeah Suspense_26 is amazing, it's like an industrial heartbeat and really gets you engaged
I absolutely shitt bricks every time "suspense_7 & suspense_8" plays in-game. Such uncomfortable ambience... and creepiness is real.
