    • 2nd Half: • 2024 Carolina Tar Heel...
North Carolina held its second camp scrimmage on Tuesday afternoon, June 25. This week there were more alumni in town so it was a true current team vs. alumni game. All 11 scholarship players from the current team participated in a 71-66 victory over an alum group that included Cole Anthony, Danny Green, Justin Jackson, Luke Maye, Kenny Williams, Brady Manek, and Paxson Wojcik. Freshman Drake Powell and Ian Jackson once again showed well and should contend for a good amount of playing time this season. The question is - how will their capabilities translate from a scrimmage to high-level D1 basketball? Zayden High is showing improvement. Elliot Cadeau looks confident. The transfers seemingly will take some time to get more comfortable, but both Cade Tyson and Ven-Allen Lubin will be significant contributors.

What really sold me on the freshman was the mcDs AA game. At the end when the game was actually getting competitive, the coach kept our guys in. That little gesture right there told me what kind of players we had-- cold blooded.

@@JohnCramer-yz2rnagreed. I think he has a much higher ceiling than Ian . let's face it. his offense has just started coming to the forefront the last year defensively. he's been the best perimeter player in high school the last few years. can't teach that. that's a will and entirely effort. even though Jackson, I think is a better defender than people give him credit for. he can't come close to Drake on the defensive end. Drake has more length and is just as athletic. plus I believe he's more of a team player and more committed. I think he has a much higher ceiling professionally that's not taking anything away from Jackson. I'm just stating what I think is the obvious

With so many outside players in the two games, there really hasn't been any focus to get inside play. So, we really didn't see too much with the big men inside. This was more one-on-one from the outside with five players present on the court. Not going to draw any conclusions because we've only seen two unfocused pickup games. Having said that, open outside shooting is an individual thing, and Cadeau has had two good games from the outside. Did see both he and Davis force some inside shots, so that's something for Hubert to work on with them. Am pleased with Powell and Jackson, nothing special with Lubin so far, and Withers just doesn't seem to be finishing - he has drives to the basket that don't result in points. Don't know how many summer games are left - wish there were quite a few.

This is a really poor take,.... the way it's worded is really gross... Paxson provided energy and literally hit a shot in the Bama game, that mattered greatly , Withers did also, but in the negative way... people critiquing Withers are doing so fairly, he is a little out of control with the ball, and makes mistakes, it has absolutely nothing to do with his skin tone...... maybe you noticed Tyson didn't even play until the second sub.... and that is all I will entertain with the ridiculous way of making your comment....When Withers is good, attacking the boards showing his athleticism he is phenomenal. but he does not need to bring the ball up or be a primary secondary or third ball handler option.......
