  • We custom painted this Rockshox Lyrik fork for a customer that wanted a better colour combination with a bike they were building. We went with a sponge effect pattern using a combination of pinks and purples. All of the logos are airbrushed on, no decals used at all.

    I love that the customer specifically wanted a better colour combination but not a match. Just make it look only slightly off instead of way off. But to be real if he uses some purple components they're most likely 9 different shades anyway so this might look dope? I'd be interested in seeing the full bike.

      Customer has a pink frame and purple components, so the fork will tie it all together nicely 👍

      Custom Paints Inc make the best spray cans to my knowledge, but I don't use them myself. As for the colour code I have no idea!

      There are technically just 2 different colours, but a light and dark version of each

    unrelated question: but, if i wanted to polish a raw aluminium bike frame, then apply a protective clear coat, what is the maximum grit of paper i should use whilst still being able to ensure the clear will stick to polished alu? Thanks

    • @flatwhitepaintworks
      @flatwhitepaintworks  Год назад +1

      You would need a specific direct to metal (DTM) clearcoat to adhere to bare aluminium. Best to check the TDS of the product you were using for advice.

    I wanna paint my white fork black but do i have to sand it down even tho its already white?

    • @flatwhitepaintworks
      @flatwhitepaintworks  8 месяцев назад +1

      You don't have to fully remove the paint, but you do need to sand it before you apply the primer to make sure it has something to stick to. P320 is your best bet.

      Yeah, there are actually a few clearcoat stages missed out in the video, one after the sponge effect and before the logos, and then a second before the final polish

    I want to do the same, I bought the Pike Ultimate in Silver color, which just don't looks good on my Santa Cruz Chameleon in Yellow. I want to paint it to shiny black as the original Shiny black color. Do you have any tips on what paint to buy, sand paper. You think homedepot has everything I need?

    What grit did you use to wet sand after the primer?

    • @flatwhitepaintworks
      @flatwhitepaintworks  Год назад

      This fork was 600, because there is no problem with plain colours, but the clearcoat was sanded with 800 before putting the logos on as you'll see 600 scratches through a metallic

    What a beautiful work!!! Would love to know how you made the "decals" with and airbrush, like... The paper you use to print, the second one that you used to stick the decal on the suspension... Everything precisely done!!!

      Hi there, we use a Silhouette Cameo 4 to cut the vinyl masks and the vinyl we use is Oracal Oramask 810. Because the vinyl is low tack, you can use it as transfer tape as well.

      Quel peinture vous utiliser pour le sponge patern ? C’est de on acryliques ?

  • @Ash_MC91

    Why didn't you sand all the paint off? Most videos I've seen, the frame/forks paint is completely removed

    • @flatwhitepaintworks
      @flatwhitepaintworks  Год назад +3

      Because the forks were brand new so the paint was immaculate and magnesium is a tricky metal to get paint to stick to. It makes more sense in this case to essentially use the factory applied paint as a primer. We always sand all the paint off everything else we paint, brand new suspension forks are the one exception
