    I lose so much weight when I abstain from alcohol. When alcohol is in your system, the fat burning process goes into pause in an effort to burn off the alcohol. So if I eat a meal and drink alcohol my body will burn the alcohol first because it 's a toxin and the body wants to rid it's self of it. The body store the calories that I consumed from food as fat, and that is the reason why people who consume alcohol on a regular basis gain weight . It's not only the calories in the alcohol that contribute to weight gain or not being able to lose weight, it's the body not burning fat while alcohol is in the system. Instead of the body using food as a source of energy, it uses the alcohol first, meanwhile never burning fat .It may take hours to rid the body of alcohol depending on the quantity consumed so one may go days before the body starts burning fat. So it is wise for anyone who is on a weight loss journey not to consume alcohol. Someone once said you either drink and don't eat or eat and don't drink if you want to lose or not gain weight while drinking alcohol. The former is not healthy alternative. I say once weight loss is achieved just drink in moderation every once in a while.

    This is a different story.. I'm 17. About 18 in 4 months. I know I'm mad young to be drinkin lots or be drinking period. But. It's hard to stop drinking due to my addiction and my anxiety and social change in myself. I want to lose weight but it's hard to stop drinking and it's so easy for me to access or get alcohol. I'm sad and sitting at 200. I am chubby and want to lose weight but i struggle and have my withdrawals.. and drink alot.. i want to change that and i want to lose weight fast or as soon as i can. Really worried and just scared and stressed. Unhappy aith myself and i feel fat and hate how i look. I searched up everything. But it's hard to stop my addiction and i want to be better and skinnier. Really scared and struggling and have a personal struggle to manage drinking alcohol very often

    Had no idea hard liquor has calories. There’s no nutrition label for hard liquor, only for beers and wines.

      It depends on the nutrition labelling rules in whatever country you're from, I guess. The calories in hard liquor are relatively low compared to beer and wine.

    For me, booze isn't an issue as in, gaining weight.
    The issue is, booze almost makes everyone THINK they are hungry.... therefore you eat, adds more calories and fat..... You wake the next day, feel like pants and that impacts your workout.
    Luckily, i am at that age 43, that i don't do the clubbing scene anymore... and the only drink i have is Red wine, Guinness or Whiskey.
    All three have natural health benefits, within reason.... yes they add calories and carbs with the Guinness, and i do enjoy my food.
    I probably drink sensibly 3 times a week, with good food.... But i train 6 times a week, cardio, resistance and martial arts.
    It isn't a fantastic plan that has an ultimate goal, but it maintains a happy medium where i enjoy the foods and drink i want, but keep a fitness regime.
    If you indulge more..... simple, exercise a bit more.
    Fitness and health is paramount, but PLEASE, don't starve yourselves or deprive yourselves of the good things in life..... Life is short and you are a long time dead, the ''perfect body'', 6 packs, pecs, the perfect bum...... It is all bulls##t! It is hard enough to be yourself and the stress of life.
    Enjoy, but be sensible.

    The question for me is, if I am in a big calorie deficit every day, will having the odd drink stop me losing weight, and for how long, if so? Your body processes one drink in an hour, say. And the 80 odd calories in a shot of whiskey would be burned in around the same time. The whole pause for 36-72 hours must be a myth, or you'd see obese winos stumbling about, instead of skinny hobos, no? I am killing it in the gym, and hiking, 4,000 calories spent every day, and eating the minimum of 1,800 for a man, sometimes less, and counting every calorie, including the odd drinks. I have lost weight, but not as much as I should have... under a kilo a week, when I should be losing double that at least. Maybe alcohol really does put the brakes on. But then, I am lifting weights hardcore for 90-120 minutes, and packing on muscle, while the belly is diminishing, so could be that too.

    • @IvanaChapman
      @IvanaChapman  Год назад +1

      The short answer is that if you have a big calorie deficit every day, an occasional drink will not stop you from losing weight. Alcohol is metabolized by various pathways. Alcohol potentially being in the system for 72hrs doesn't refer to its calories/energy still hanging around, but the processing and eliminating of ethanol (and it's potentially intoxicating effects).

    • @stephendaedalus6192
      @stephendaedalus6192 Год назад +1

      @@IvanaChapman Thanks! Thought so too. On the 72 hours, you'd have to go on a serious bender, and drink so much that weight would be the least of your problems. There is a lot of disinformation out there on the topic. What makes sense is the switch in the liver, but again, that must be dependent on volume, roughly one drink/hour. However, if drinking while eating meant all calories got stored as fat, another claim, then Italy would be the fattest country in the world, as they rarely eat dinner without a glass of wine, rather than the USA with its synthetic fizzy drinks at dinner time, no? But the opposite is the case. Ok, thanks for the help.

    What if I don’t eat at all while drinking alcohol or before can I lose weight? I don’t get hangovers either

    • @IvanaChapman
      @IvanaChapman  2 года назад

      What matters for weight loss is how many calories in total you consume over the course of the day (and if your eating changes the next day). But skipping a meal to drink alcohol is NOT something I would recommend. Maybe you're drinking an amount of alcohol that your body can tolerate so you haven't had a hangover. I guarantee that everyone has a point at which they'll get a hangover. 😉

    • @IvanaChapman
      @IvanaChapman  3 года назад +2

      Do you mean 1 beer and 1 wine a day? Moderate drinking is considered one drink for women or two drinks for men (not sure which applies to you!) per day. It also depends on what your goals are and what else you're eating. You can’t speed up the metabolism of alcohol with water, but at least it will prevent you from being dehydrated afterwards. 🙂
