Robo Hamster Bin Cage Setup Timelapse

- Join me as I upgrade my hamster's bin cage!
I got a very large 200 Qt bin this past week, so tall that I don't need to worry about a lid for this enclosure (for a dwarf or robo hamster only, Syrians are good climbers, I wouldn't recommend going lidless for them!).
Please note- although you’ll see one of my videos with the bendy-bridge used as a wall - upright- I do not recommend doing this! Bendy bridges have tiny cracks in them that your hamster’s toes can get stuck in. Many people have learned this the hard way! Instead, us an acrylic riser, cardboard box or sheet of moss to keep a mound of paper bedding in place.

*I suggest freezing moss and bedding overnight to make sure there are no insects in them.

Your hamster is super adorable 🐹, but I'm pretty sure roborovski hamsters need around a third of their cage to be a sand bath.
Yes, thanks for the feedback! I find fitting 1/3 sand into the cage and also providing burrowing room difficult. Hoping the Niteangel shelf comes back in stock so I can put the sand baths 🛀 on a shelf!

I’m in the process of setting up my bin and I absolutely love you’re set up and want to use it as a reference but are you not worried about falls?
Hi Emma! 👋 not silly at all! This is definitely one of my earlier bin designs, and I do worry about falls (particularly as they get older, they seem to get more and more clumsy). I’ll post some links to more recent bins- I try to make sure there are several ways to climb up something and also never too far of a drop.

I now put my wheels any anything needing stabilization on a platform to maximize the space in the bin. I also like to use lightweight cork logs & coffee cup holders for climbing and to ensure if they tumble, it's not too far :)

I have a robo but he's in a 200 and something inch bin but I want to upgrade sooooooo bad. When I got it my dad send the worker wanted me to get a smaller one and the lady said we sell hamster cages over there but I couldn't get the biggest one which I wanted but he will go ina 536 Sq inch bin bc my Syrian is getting a detolf so he will go in that. I wish I could upgrade but I cant
I understand! When I first got Steven I had him in a Crittertrail for the first week, then I upgraded him to a Brisby cage, then a 100 qt and finally a 200 qt bin. I think hamster care is all about incremental change, just save up for that big bin, make small changes everyday to improve their life 💕
Tip- it’s also easy to find used/premade bin cages on Facebook market place! I got two bins with lids for just $15!

What kind of bin is that? I got a roboroski hamster today and I have a 120 quart bin, and he's already very stressed and is sliding against the walls, has your robo shown any stress signs in that bin? I have no idea what kind of bin to use
Hi! Oh yes I find my robos must be in 200 qt bins or larger. My hybrid dwarves seem to deal with the smaller, 100 qt bins better, but robos are sooo active!
The stress is probably also him just getting used to his new home. Make sure he’s in a quiet spot (like a bedroom with the door closed) where it’s temperature controlled and away from other pets or small kiddos. Also give him plenty of hides. If you don’t have any yet, cardboard tunnels from toilet paper rolls or empty Kleenex containers (remove the plastic) work great!!
I find chew toys help my hams relief stress, so make sure he has a whimzee too!

The bin is from Home Depot (they sometimes are avail other places but right now I’m finding HD has them). I would probably go with lower platforms for him / make a lid until you know his abilities and tendencies. None of my robos have ever escaped From a bin but I’m also careful not to have anything attached to the side of the bin or too close the edge that they could reach.
If you want to invest a little $$ I highly suggest the Niteangel bigger world or vista, size M or L (larger is better!) or a 40 gallon or 75 gallon tank from PetCo (75 is gorgeous but heavy!) both tanks are currently 50% off I believe!

@@RachelGotHamsters this helped a lot thank you! I'm only 11 and I'm saving up for the niteangel bigger world! I do actually have around 10 chew toys in his enclosure about 11 hideouts, and other things like cork logs and grapevine, I'll definitely check home depot for cages! Thank you!

@@RachelGotHamsters yea, he cooled down a little and I've been letting him free roam in a play pen, and he just found out that he can use his sand. My other hamster has no idea that he's even here lol, but thank you!

What size is the bin and where is it from?
Hi! Link to the bin is in the description. I got this one from Amazon, although it’s also available from Walmart. At Christmas time sometimes it’s also available at places like Target 🎯.
It’s 200 qt size, about 800 sq inches (although I feel like it’s a little less than that, due to curved edges and angled sides).

Hmm , can you give more specifics? The Mazuri blocks plus Higgins Sunburst is what I feed them, unfortunately there aren’t a lot of other options in the US, but I do supplement with veggies and other proteins.

@@RachelGotHamsters I think the person just saw the pellets. I thought that at first. Higgins sunburst with the Mazuri pellets is the best option.
