It seems that Peugeot is cautious about the Australian market. Here in Europe there are several trim levels and engines. Even a hybrid version is coming.
Both Holdens Commodore dud of a vehicle and Volkswagons’s dieselgate embarrassment creates the ideal market for the 508. Cant believe how many 3008 I have in my area
What I find funny, is all of the journalist complaining about how the controls are all on screen. Looking at a lot of the new cars coming through they all seem to be going the same way. So I guess you all need to harden up and accept it!
And one year later I have not seen any getting about, although I’m not in Melb too often (we are in the country) I really like the Wagon (not a fan of SUV’s) but a bit cautious of the fact that only near new vehicles on sale are dealer demos, does that mean no one bought any or they are not selling because they don’t need to upgrade because they are that good?
It was such a silly criticism by the presenter, given that seat height adjustment would solve the problem. It's like saying the rear view mirror suits me, but wouldn't suit taller or shorter drivers...you adjust it man 😐
Own a Peugeot car before, amazing. Will definitely grab another one. The only issue for 508 is the price here. 1.6 engine for that price tag is not very attractive. Bigger engine or cheaper price.
Nice review however there is a 'but', you mention at the start about "if you're short" or "if you're taller" than you there are vision issues over the dash. Um, does the drivers seat and/or steering wheel not Raise and Lower? 🤔😂
I have the earlier 508 and love the car, it still drives and performs like a new car after 8 years ... BUT the dealerships (Zupps in Brisbane) was terrible with poor service that does not honour warranty ... and many faults that should not happen, poor plastics that should not normally break... put me off Peugeot because of the dealers ...
The only problem with Peugeot Australia is the importer as they don't market it well at all. Same goes for the of the French brands in the country which is a shame :(
@@berniesutton7277 It was only a rhetorical question. And there is full adjustment for the steering and the seat of course. All this flashy interior for the ergonomics of a 504 ? This review is quite weird overall.
Yes seat and steering wheel can be adjusted, but i can see how this may be a little issue for some people after being in one! But at my height 5.9” i had no problem in seeing the dash!
Agreed. it's truly beautiful inside/out. That said, with the FCA/PSA merger now in full-force, I wonder if Peugeot will even re-enter the market or if this basically just becomes a suitable platform for future Dodge, Chrysler, etc. products. It would be a shame as the styling language would definitely stand out in a crowd in the U.S. Tap into unused FCA capacity to build this car locally (save on tarriff's, build goodwill with the American public) and get it NHTSA and CAFE certified, work on a more powerful engine option (maybe a 2.0T version?) and hybrid variant (platform is built for it) to compare with the ringbearer Honda Accord and Toyota Camry mid-size options. This could be an interesting option in the U.S.
@@that_beetle_guy The Peugeot is more expensive, because they only offer the highest trim level in Australia. Here in Europe, the 508 and the Mazda 6 are indeed competitors and actually Mazda has the better image, while both offer the same quality level lately.
´Disgrace´? ´Jap crap´. Comparing a ´french´ car with an ´asian´ car? If it´s an aesthetic preference, by all means, suit yourself, but otherwise hang on till the guys with the White jacket arrive to ´help´ you.
Typical, hardly know anything about such a brilliant brand and seem to knock everything about it ... Comparing it with Mazda clearly show that you have no idea in regards to design and quality of European vehicles. I am not a tall person but well and truly could see very well the iCockpit with no problems whatsoever. Nothing come close to this Peugeot 508, not even the German brands "Simple"
Peugeot, Renault, and Citroen haven't sold cars in the United States since 1986 because their transmissions and engines just fall apart. They are cheaply made and can't handle the 20 to 25 thousand miles the average car in the U.S. will drive.
No, it's because the United States changed its regulations in order to force foreign car companies out of the market. It's called protectionism. The PSA Group (Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel, Vauxhall) is the second best selling car conglomerate in Europe behind the VW Group. The Renault - Nissan - Mitsubishi Alliance is the best selling conglomerate on the planet. And in both these cases the French companies are the ones carrying the group technologically, Renault rescued Nissan from bankruptcy in the nineties and Opel / Vauxhall are quickly transitioning to PSA tech.
This car is cheaper than the basic D-segment Germans in Australia...that is brilliant. It looks like a 4-door Ferrari.
Man i wanna drool in this drop dead gorgeous sedan since day 1!!

Quite gorgeous in red!

red one is soooo beautiful
Tbf, i think shorter people (like me) would set up the seat higher or the wheel lower to get a good driving position

After 1 year, I have never spot a real car in Melbourne...and the dealer's price is not dropped yet

I will buy this if they introduce a 2 litre HDI version, right now I have a 308 2 litre HDI and I am so used to it:)
Nice music choice there mate. Care to share? 😁
so the driver seat is not height adjustable you mean? in order the find the right driving position?

The engine does seem to give a good amount of power for its size. Though sadly it doesn't drive as sporty as it looks.
Still kicks 180 bhp
Great and bold looking design, and fits well with The Flour Mill.

Tough to change people's opinion. Looks much different to the usual cars on road
I have an Audi A4 and I’m seriously thinking of getting one of these next time I’m changing

chucku00 I was wondering there was height adjustment for the steering. Either might overcome the problem

Probably for the higher end model....who knows.
like the 508 Hybrid 4X4 ?
