Thanks for the tips! The hardest part of making a song definitely is that final stretch, but you gave some awesome tips on how to overcome each step in the process!
To keep focus on the color or emotion and not get lost on effects. We can keep adding effects all day but as long as the message, emotion or color is communicated you're done.
I love how when Andrew gives advice on how to do something, it's not just a shallow listicle... it's legitimately good information about the real work and process involved in getting stuff done.
I'm not a musician but I am an artist (drawing, painting, digital) and your list idea is actually very similar to how I finish works. Near the end of the painting I'll usually (in the case of digital) make a layer and just circle in red every little thing I can find that needs fixing. Makes it way easier to gauge what's left to do and to work through it one spot at a time.
Watched for the plot development, didn't expect a shout out. I gotta get you a #1 boss mug or something, thanks buddy working on your music is always a pleasure and an adventure.
It seems interesting how in the same year we lost the epic robotic duo of Daft Punk who wrote what i would consider to be a space opera we get a new take on the concept of a musical space adventure, fantastic combination of dramatic elements and educational materials.
I love the Internet. I love RUclips. I love your channel. Creating music before this was with myself and myself alone. And now we got gurus like you who share their knowledge and experience, freely available to anyone. What a time to be alive!
I’d love to see that too, but honestly I think this holds its effect better if he keeps the story alive and acts like it’s normal. It has a certain magic that he just went this way narratively without explanation about how or why.
i used to make beats 10years ago . . i had potential but lacked focus. I hear music all the time in my head all my life, but though the melodies exist i never had focus to fully dive in and learn everything, (get distracted easily "bored")tho lately i have been lookin to get back into it . . ive been recently diagnosed with A.D.D and so a lot of my shortcomings became clear. Losing inspo and not finishing things. this is the most inspirational video i have ever seen, your music is amazing and the logical steps and process really really helps me to see a clear path through the fog.. thanks so much for making it brother !!!!
So what I've gathered from this is that getting a few more (well-trained) ears on your tracks is always a good idea. Collaboration is super underrated!

Pieces of their world? *wipes sweat from forehead* I was afraid that they were his children and that Andrew had already massacred a small number of them.
Andrew Huang isn't always my cup of tea, but this is a great piece of information. I think every early EDM bedroom producer gets stuck in this pattern of not knowing how to break out of the loop and structure a complete song (at least I did/do). Appreciate you Andrew!
Those tips about, workflow, creativity and most important, a perspective about the dynamic of the full process you can't find it everywhere. You rock this one
Getting to structure as soon as possible is SO key. The songs of mine I like the most usually also come together the fastest because I've created at least A and B sections to work around
There’s this old, well known song called “stand by me”, the rendition everyone has heard is by Ben E. King. It’s a very well known song, everyone has heard it. It’s the same 4 chords the whole song over and over again. The melody changes in the chorus, the song raises its emotional level in the chorus and then reels it back in the verse, but when you play the song, you realize that it’s the same thing the whole way through. Songs don’t need to be complex, and often times complexity creates polarizing reactions for whatever reasons. It seems like the best songs are always simple like row, row, row your boat. 🤷♂️ I didn’t create this world I just live here.
Wonderful as always. Two things I thought of which would complete the list for me: 1. Referencing and 2. Don't be afraid to quickly move through the steps, back and forth, back and forth. It can be for different parts, as you hear something, or where your interest takes you. You needn't work solely on the macro until it's perfect before diving into the micro. It is difficult to get the pacing of this right and to see it all through by the end, but it's a pattern of working I've seen in all artistic expression. My two cents ;) Thanks Andrew!
Super helpful. totally agree with not getting bogged down in the detail until the end. Definitely helps to share and at least get someone else's reaction. Thank you.
Not sure how i've missed this little gem but thanks so much for sharing your personal workflow. I am, without a doubt, the loop master and over the past 20 years, i've only ever finished about a dozen tracks (i've had many issues in between but still, that's pretty lame lol) You're such an inspiring musician, friend. You make the whole process feel much more relatable for those that are a little stuck; unlike some producers that make videos, that are, quite honesly, more interested in showing off how good they are to their fans, rather than actually be helpful, productive or inspiring. You've made one hell of a difference in my production and work flow over the years, just by explaining things in a personable way, backed with a good portion of knowledge. Kudos and much love to you 😉👊
Having just found your Chanel Im really pleased that all the thing I doubted I was doing in production are the things I just need to keep working on. You explain things so clearly and make them fun for me to understand. Kudos and blessings
Thanks for talking about how you reach out and ask other producers for help on your tracks. I think this is something that’s not always so easy to cultivate with lots of us working in a very isolated way.
Great video. I have a similar work flow where I start making a 2 to 4 bar loop that is killer. The hardest part for me has always been breaking that up in a way others will love. Since as composers, if we like it, we can probably listen to the loop on repeat for 12 hours haha.
This series is the most incredible thing I've seen in music in a while. Super cool and this particular video inspired me in a way I didn't expect it would. I now have a roadmap for how to get to the finish line for a few lingering projects. Thank you!
This video is like an 8 minute speed-run through the first week in his Monthly class. If this was inspiring to you, consider looking for signups next time they're around--assuming it's still going?
I find the finishing touches of the song to be my favorite part. I just struggle to get there because I struggle to structure my songs in the first place. Coming up with melodies that work together to create a cohesive mood is typically where I struggle. I can do the loop but I find that the loop usually doesn't translate into a song very easily. I'll definitely try to create structure way earlier in the process so it doesn't become an issue down the road.
I loved the series! I knew right away it was fiction, but I was really impressed with the quality of the production. I did think the meme-y bits did maybe take away from the narrative, however I also recognized that it was just your own humor shining through, so I went with it. Liftoff is my favorite track of the series 👏
Really needed this video! I've been doing these 1-minute synth jam videos on my channel and they just sit in my DAW unfinished. Now, I'm on a mission to turn them all into full songs!
Every song I make i start with a loop and build like 5 or 6 tracks over the loop and then I practice muting sections and build a different vibe with the loop and then I try piecing it around with the others by unmuting and muting others. Just reducing your work to make room for creativity is a great practice. Sometimes too much can crowd it up and doesn’t leave room for your brain to wander.
I make sure to watch this tutorial before every session, helps me maintain the general broad sence of the vibe and structure I need to maintain for the track. You're the best Andrew 🤗

I have to say... because of your medium is youtube, and you kept your sooting style for this journey, it took me a while to suspend my disbelief about this whole space stuff. But now it happened, and i'm glad you made this series, because it's funny and original and a real quality work!
