    At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
    The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
    As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

    Valide Sultan can sense Hurrem’s growing power and influence but one thing that I thought I saw in that scene when Hurrem fake congratulates Mahidevran is a sense of admiration for her control and her cunning.

    I find it interesting that Gulsha would say that Mahi is pregnant especially since she knows that Mahi hasn't been with Suleiman in a long time.

      Everybody thought Mahi was with Suleiman, she didnt tell anyone at this time how it really was, Hafsa made Suleiman be with Mahi but in reality he hasnt even touched her

      Not even Gulsha knew that Suleiman wasn’t touching her when she went to his room.

      @@klaudiaas6281 Exactly this! She only admits to it when, after complaining of the unfairness in how she's treated, Hafsa insists that Suleiman still summons her and is shocked to learn that, despite that, Suleiman never touches her. I think she was too ashamed to admit it to anyone until she realized it was truly never going to change.

    This is why I never thought Gulsah was ever "in love" with Mahidevran like many people claim, she seems to entertain the idea of Suleiman and Mahidevran together

      Gulsah only loved the reflection of power she could have being the shadow of a sultana.

      @@blueskyonsummer exactly! I wonder why she never tried to get with Suleiman though it's not like she was any less pretty than Mahidevran or Hurrem, she didn't want to start a family on her own either as she refused to marry. I guess she had very low self esteem

    when she said "You have to give birth to princes to be treated like a human being around here" (paraphrasing) I mean, she was so close to getting the point. At the end of the day, if the sultan wanted a woman, that was that. Her being bitter at hurrem was pointless. Hurrem being bitter at her was pointless, they both had to do as he said. Their power only came from giving birth to babies. At the end of the day, it was all his call, and in his younger years (on the show) he was sloppy and womanizing because frankly, he could be. He wasn't the first or the last. Their drama, their bickering, was all because of him at the end of the day. Luckily in history, it wasn't this dysfunctional, but a real life retelling wouldn't have been as juicy or as good for a show.

      Imagine that scene but if Mahidevran told it to Hürrem. Hatice couldn't empathize because of her born-with privileges, but Hürrem might have told her something interesting.

    Sometimes I wish that, if the writers were going to include Raziye, they did it here (maybe with another concubine if not Mahidevran?). It wouldn't have been anymore historically accurate than how she otherwise got included in the show, but at least the timeline would be a little less messed up for her birth.

    • @Bebbii-ne2mr
      @Bebbii-ne2mr 4 месяца назад +1

      Wasn't she born a year before his reign started? And didn't she die one year later? This happened before this timeline.

    • @Redluna32
      @Redluna32 4 месяца назад +4

      @@Bebbii-ne2mr So, unlike her brothers, we don't actually know Raziye's year of birth-only that she died 1521, along with Mahmud and Murad (most likely of smallpox). Like I said in my original comment, including her here instead wouldn't be any more historically accurate, but having her birth (and death) here rather than all the way at towards the end of Suleiman's reign would've been a little closer to reality at least (and spared us the stupidity of the Nazenin subplot).

      They included Raziye in a later season. She's mentioned link two episodes her birth the following episode. Her mother is killed off quickly and she's not mentioned again.
