Mahidevran started poisoning Mustapha's mind against Hurrem right from when he was still a child. Imagine having to look at his mother before he could answer Hurrem. She dug her son's grave with her own hands.
Hurrem herself said that the only way she wouldn't see Mustafa as her enemy is if he was her son. Suleiman wasn't going to change the fratricide rule, so Mustafa was her enemy.
I actually have an issue with Mustafa because like everyone he lives a double standard but can call out everyone but himself....it was tradition to have concubines infact he had many "favourites".....so I don't really buying the whole honorable act ...he just didn't like hurrem cuz she was a threat to the throne and that is fine but just call it like it is
Mustafa was 38 years old, when he was executed. So he was certainly not a victim of his mother. As an ambitious Prince, he wanted to build a powerbase for himself, mainly in the army, and overdid it. Such was politics in this time.
In this drama, mahidevran was not worth a dime. She always cried and complained instead of facing the harem's life and live with it or fight. She was a dim light, while hurrem was the galaxy itself
What amazes me Is that people argue over who was good or bad, made him do things. Sulieiman was was the smartest and strongest sulten of the Ottoman Empire. He didn't get the name the Magnifacent for nothing. He gained the most territories, won the most battles, and made the best treaties. He was not someone easily manipulated. Plus any ruler who reached his status had their own spies in every facet of their empire. He would have had the harem full of people to report what was going on. He knew everything. You can tell by how people obeyed him. Even his own mother rearly went up against him and she was never a slave but a princess (the last until slavery was outlawed). Neathier women were angles nor demons. They were in a place where you fought for your children lives. The difference one of them was smarter and I personally think truly loved him. Mustapha did not die just because of that letter. Everytime Mahievran messed up or couldn't cantrol her emotions or mouth it was a black mark against her son. Once Mahmet died of smallpox the son the Sultan wanted to follow him (he built a throne over his tomb) he begain taking stock. Mustafa had listen to much to his mother, his mother even referred to him as the crown prince out in the open. She pitted him against his brothers and she herself showed no restraint. I am talking in real life histories that is in books but it is shown but exaggerated here. Sulieiman knew Mustafa would listen to his mother as his main advisor (she openly set herself up to be that) and because of that would make bad decisions. Hurrem played the game smarter. She never promoted her sons she only ask him to protect their lives. He just used the letter as an excuse. He had already talk over with advisors his closeness to the military, he spoke to thoes he visted as if he spoke for the Sultan and once when Sulieiman was very ill his mother was not good at hideing the preperations she had to make him Sultan and Mustafa went along with it. When he survived many notice she was not happy. She didn't seem to have a poker face. Mustapha thought to highly of himself and Bayzide thought to lowly. Bayzide was always trying out do Selim.
Mahidevran was evil in a lot of ways, but it was the system she was forced to live under that bent her mind and will to such nastiness imo. However, she did save one of Hurrem’s children from drowning and was blessed by the Sultan, and even Hurrem for doing so. I believe that is why Mahidevran was allowed to live a long life, although she suffered much loss.
In here you see the difference between hafsa and valide kosem sultan. First 16:46 acts and thinks as a limited sultana while shes valide, the second literally rules the empire and whatever she wants, she gets it.
Its scenes like this whete you csn clearly see the idea where people claim mahidevran started everything falls short. Bevause in rhis scene HURREM has NO eight nothing irritating her and frankly to reason to instigate mahi by taking get room. But she did. Mahi is not an angel either but hurrem is equally as evil
This war started when mahi poisoned hurrem while she was pregnant, trying to k1ll her and her baby, then later on trying to k1ll her again, hurrem had to adjust to the ways of the harem, valide, mahi and ibriham always schemed evil things, lots of innocent ppl die bc of valide mahi and ibriham, and in the very beginning hurrem was normal, but the bullying and threats kept getting worse and worse bc she wouldn’t bow down to mahi, thus mahi began spreading lies about hurrem
You're missing the point that this was about status AND positioning that is near the Sultan. 😅 That's why when Gulsah mentions it, Mahidevran immediately realises the opportunity. Winning the Sultan's love again. Why would Hurrem give that up? 😅
This show is pure fiction. In real history Mahidevran was a good person and Roxelana hideous and evil and therefor rightfully called "the red witch" by the common people. Mahidevran also didn't kill Mehmet, who died from a disease. This show is twisting history to create strong feelings.
