To the introvert, I am one, too. I volunteer at our food pantry. I stock the shelves because I can do this alone in the building. Maybe something like this.
Indeed, I hope they see this. I can totally relate to the introverted autistic of the last question. My suggestion is to do some research and see what group or organization you would like to participate with. I will recommend keeping it fairly small and local to begin with if you can. Then contact an individual from that group by email, private message on a social service they use, or phone. Whichever you are more comfortable with. Explain to them your skills AND circumstances. I would wager they will be understanding as there are more of us involved than you might realize.

Hello all! To the helper who asked: honestly, most non-profits, especially the smaller ones, would cry for joy if an accountant reached out to them. A single email to (place you're interested in) might be all the networking you need! Plus, they're professional networkers- let the experts do the hard work! If the first place doesn't need an accountant, they probably know someone who does, and will gladly point you in the right direction for minimal networking needed. In the House: well, that didn't take long and yeah, I can only imagine Poland's going to really push aid to Ukraine, given its willingness to go in. if only we (USA) would follow suit...
I was going to suggest posts online to Discord, Blue Sky etc, as easier than phoning around or (horrors) going to meetings, but I like your idea better.
Agreed on the "most non-profits, especially smaller ones, would cry for joy if an accountant reached out to them" note. That was my FIRST thought as soon as I heard the words "accountant" and "volunteer" in the same sentence. Just make sure you have a set expectation of hours to donate to the cause.
Yes. Once you contact and let them know your skills the networking extroverts will draw you in. There is always essential stuff that they find difficult or boring. Most of it can be done at home in your pj's and is highly appreciated.

Electrical Engineer, huh? Maybe explain how iDJT made a career out of regularly stiffing his subcontractors, weaponizing bankruptcy, playing the legal system, busting unions, and dealing with Organized Crime to get his projects moving.
There's bound to be some cases you can trace on the internet of how he stiffed tradespeople and companies. Lately I heard him brag on a clip that his strategy is to criticise work done, and then refuse to pay. I suppose that works like the IDF bombing people like journalists, doctors and volunteers into oblivion and then stating 'the presence of Hamas' as a supposed justification...
And how he repeatedly cucked himself publicly to Putin from day one. How Putin's state tv showed nudes of Melania to openly humiliate the orange loser and his response was to hide and say nothing as opposed to his typical insane ranting online when he thinks someone isn't being deferential enough to him.
HA! I have known a few electrical engineers, all amazing in their field, some of whom probably shouldn't be trusted to care for a goldfish. Just because someone is extremely intelligent in a complicated field, doesn't mean they are emotionally intelligent enough to not be scammed.
In my experience, those with a specialized degree are often MORE susceptible to scams and such. Especially the ones who have convinced themselves that they are super smart and capable due to their degree/specialization. It really comes to down to methodology. Do they implement the same methodology in their specialization as they do in the rest of their life, or is that compartmentalized? You see the same thing with scientists who are incredibly skilled in some complicated field, and yet have unquestioning belief in a god. They do not apply the same systems of evidence, logic, study, etc. to their religious beliefs (and often other aspects of life) that they do to their work. That gap allows them to be exploited.
@@Jedi_Vigilante They tend to have a whole lot of almost comical optimism about their ability to "reason" and "think things through" because of their intelligence in one very narrow, usually very specific avenue. This, almost counterintuitively, sometimes makes them even quicker to fall for absolute nonsense and conspiracy fantasies, and makes them much harder for most people to budge free of the nonsense. This isn't new. Not by a long shot. The same thing has held true for decades, at least as long as I've been alive, and seems to effect most every STEM field. Though it definitely seems to plague engineers the most, for some reason.
@@RevShifty The reason I say it has to do with methodology is because the source of that optimism and confidence seems to be a huge factor. For example, those who think they are the most safe are often the least safe. The reason though, is because they ASSUMED that they were safe due to some other factor in their life (like intelligence in a specialized field). That assumption is often what makes them so unsafe, because they do not actively take measures to protect themselves (like seeking verified, correct information about current events/common scams). Meanwhile, if a person's methodology includes studious research of topics unfamiliar to them, they may actually be safe because they don't assume safety. This means that the reason they could be such a good engineer (their studious nature) also protects them from being exploited. But only if they continue to extend that methodology outside of their specialization. I think that is where that counterintuitive vulnerability comes from. Do they assume safety due to their specialized skills, or actively seek to preserve safety by utilizing the tools that allowed them to excel in their specialized field? It is the reason why some highly technical theoretical physicists can run out of gas multiple times a week, while others can accurately question complex theories in areas far afield of their own particular specialty. Are they implementing the same methodologies that made them great, or simply believing that they themselves are great and are therefor "safe"?
@@Jedi_Vigilante We basically just said the same thing using different language. I don't presume to know if it's a feeling of safety or just over confidence (ie, from "being the smartest person in my family"), but otherwise we basically just described the same root.
To the introvert. You can get on the mailing list of your favorite political watch dog group. They typically have bill watchers and frequently have calls to action items such calling or emailing representatives to urge them to vote a certain way. Emailing does not require direct contact. You can just delete the requests for money. Or donate small amounts to your local chapters. They appreciate any amount.
On the question about the discussion with a Trump voter, I had a discussion with a friend last spring about the economy and the idea that Trump would somehow "fix the economy". The result? For the first time in his life, he voted for Democrats. If you have someone receptive to learning, it's an easy discussion to have.
"There is no skill that isn't useful." Yes Belle, I watch this channel for clear reporting of political news and events, but the blatant humanitarianism that it shows is, perhaps, the biggest reason of all. I wish the letter-writer well in their journey. Lord knows, just about every single good group that I know of can use the skill sets that were described! But it doesn't hurt for all of us to remember these words of truth when we're feeling down. Thank you! 😊

There needs to be a online resource specifically designed to help build community networks, like a virtual meet up or sign up where people can post their skills and contact information. That way if you have someone that is good with people and organizations need someone with skills but bad at people interaction they can still contact them. Most introverts have problems talking to people they don't know so the roughest part is the introduction and the first few weeks after that it smooths out. Having an online resource that helps facilitate introduction and organization would probably help people a lot.
To anyone looking to volunteer but not sure where to start: animal shelters/rescues, parks, and museums always could use a helping hand. It may not be with accounting or graphic design right away, but it's a foot in the door. Often they already have a program so you dont need to network from scratch. The work is a lot of invasive species management (multiflora rose, honeysuckle, tamarisk, invasive crayfish and zebra mussels) or counting and labeling artifacts, or digitizing records which are usually not overwhelmingly social situations. Even a place like Texas has a really active master Naturalist program, for anyone worried about species loss, biodiversity, and climate change.
Ask the for their line in the sand. What is it that Trump, the conservatives, or liberals, aren't allowed to cross. Having that line is a big part of what helped me walk away from the cult I was raised in.
I live in The Netherlands and am so glad Poland is in charge right now. And btw I love that flags are half mast because I follow that flag code. I still remember being color guard at Girl Scouts summer camp.
Being a part of NATO allows us the privilege to have military bases filled with our military "toys" in countries all around the world. By pulling out of NATO those countries will demand we leave & that would reduce the amount of tax money military contractors can profit from. There is no way lobbyists would allow this to pass, just like they will never allow for universal healthcare, it's bad for corporate profits!
Trumps complaint about half staff flag is typically childish. His statement of “ no American wants to see this at inauguration” is disgusting. No PR skills. Why is it the man can’t say anything with out trashing some one or something. Not a holiday has past has his statement of such been normal or acceptable. It’s always combined with self promotion/ boasting while attacking or belittling one or more people or whole group or all of the above. Why can’t this man ( term used loosely ) just say Merry Christmas Happy New year. He can’t say ,The half staff flag represents our great country’s respect for those that came before us in their passing then leave it alone or not mention it at all. This is obviously his daily way of communicating. Obnoxious at best.
The electrical engineer that supports Trump is a fine example of how someone that's well educated and intelligent is still susceptible to, and can easily fall into psychological traps such as confirmation bias and denial.
@@roadswithbeau Ha! I really shouldn't think that's funny, but it's just too perfect. What does he say about those beliefs now? @Helen247 oh yeah if you're in a Republican leaning district you're in and out in 10 minutes. That's how voter suppression works. For the last poster talking about volunteering, it sometimes helps to have someone more outgoing (a friend/partner/family member/etc.) to help you make that initial step. "Hey, (Charity). I know an accountant who isn't a people person but is good with numbers. Do you or the organizations in your network need either graphic design or accounting volunteers?" Then the second step of arranging time/date/location/etc. for volunteering those services is easier for you to do solo.
I appreciate the question from the ND person. I have the same issue. I can interact with people, yet too much of it drains me due to the immense effort I would need to put into masking for others. I also want to be helpful. I need to find my niche as well.

Re the talk with the engineer. Engineers don’t like not knowing . What I do and I suggest is 1) find two or three factoids per issue. Use the AP or Politico because they are not commercially owned. 2) use the phrase “as you probably know…..” then share the factoid. 3) when they dismiss the source or fact, simply ask, “ who do you prefer to listen to, someone with a commercial interest in the data who provides facts with an opinion, or someone whose business plan is to provide facts and not opinion. Good luck.

TO THE INTROVERT: Do you have a more extroverted friend who can do the reaching out for you? Preferably someone who will also volunteer and then can organically say “hey, do you need someone to help you with bookkeeping? My friend __ is an accountant and they’re the one who told me about the good work y’all do in the first place, they’re just not good at social stuff so they didn’t come with me”
To the person looking to volunteer: email a local charity or nonprofit whose work you respect and ask if they have a finance committee or need a treasurer. I work at a small, liberal church, and one of the things we are always in desperate need of is people who are willing to handle monetary oversight. So many people are scared of numbers and math, so if that's something you're good at, I promise that most nonprofits would be absolutely thrilled to have you.
The 2% defense spending is not an "agreed amount" it is a goal set that each country should try to exceed. But funny thing is most countries do exceed 2% if they were to use US math. The US counts veterans benefits and pensions as "Defense spending" while most EU countries payout that through social security, making it an accounting difference. I would hope Belle and the crew can get this right, since Trump keeps banging on about membership dues.
@angelikalindenau943 So Belle didn't say "the agreed amount on defense". While it might have been a slip of the tongue, it does misrepresent what the agreement really is, an aspiration, not a set amount required.
12:00 wow that could have been written by me. Poor autistic and hates to network. I even have some accounting experience too. But in under two years time I hope to be a master of engineering and then I hope to be able to do more.
To our Introverted Accountant: Networking can take many forms. Are you more comfortable interacting online? That might be an option. Especially since your skills translate well over the internet. Potentially.
(10:46/)11:27 - big relate! 😢 I'm also autistic, and networking is _hard_ for me... though... I don't necessarily mind reaching out to folks (at least sometimes), I just... don't seem to be effective at it. 🥺 So..... 11:24/11:38 - my suggestion, which I've _sometimes_ had some success with in the past (though I haven't been having much lately, despite _repeated_ efforts, sigh) is this: find _one_ person (ideally someone more extroverted, and perhaps more neurotypical) to network with, who can then spread the word for you, and/or find you opportunities that need your skills. If you've got an ally that can compliment your skills -- by being the talker that lets you know where your services are needed, and others know where they can get those services -- that can really help. Of course, getting that one ally is still hard, sometimes, and for that... All I can suggest is to just keep trying, one way or another. 😕
Hey Accounting guy! So when it's necessary to network there are two types and they are both talked about in this channel. There is reaching out to established groups via their channels of communication such as what Bell referred to. Which with your anxiety probably would be smoother. But if you're trying to be part of some local neighborhood or even city council will lead to finding people in your local area. Make sure to specify what you offer and what you would like to support in local groups. That way those who would like to assist in that will easily find you. As that skill is not ubiquitous in groups.
Anyone wanting to understand Economics should check out Mark Blythe, especially his McMaster Humanities talk about Global Trumpism. Someone recommended him in the comments on the main channel yesterday, and he explains everything so it's understandable and he inserts humor into his talks to keep it light, eventhough it's a serious topic.
3:54 - right there with you! Mostly have devices that don't even have those things, and on the few I have that do, it's disabled... and I still don't entirely trust those ones. :)
To the introvert accountant: don't think about "networking" if that's pressing your "nope" button. I assume you advertise your accounting services to get business? How about identifying non-profits you think might use some help and approaching them in the same way as you'd advertise to a new prospective client? Emphasise it's on a pro-bono basis because you want to help out and I can guarantee there'll be interest :) Good luck!
To the one about to talk with the electrical engineer, maybe Belle is right that discussing the 6th won't be fruitful. But if you decide to try it anyway, one thing I've learned from this channel is that it helps to lay out a timeline. Conspiracy theories tend to melt away in the face of a closely examined timeline. Engineering types might be able to understand that approach.
To the autistic person looking to help- decide what kind of organization you’d like to help then contact someone there (by email is fine) and tell them about yourself and the skills you have to offer. Other areas where you might have applicable skills since you mention various computer skills: Taking quality photos of shelter animals and cropping, etc. to help them get adopted. Helping people in transitional situations with resumés. Helping older adults improve computer skills.
Someone advised that in these times to be sure you have a "community" that will support and encourage. Suggestion: start or use your "book group" to include books that focus on dealing with these times. The book I'm going to suggest to my newly reestablished Indivisible group is "Active Hope; How to Face the Mess We're in with Unexpected Resilience & Creative Power" by Macy & Johnstone. It is about accepting the overwhelming problems we face, ( global warming, politics, etc) and taking action anyway..
To the autistic accountant - I would suggest volunteering with the county Democratic Party. Parties are always desperate for someone willing to volunteer as treasurer. My county party was going down in flames until a woman volunteered to serve as treasurer and our new chair started fundraising so we could recruit Democrats to run in our bright red county. If you serve on the executive board, you’d just have to handle the finances and submit a spreadsheet to the board. Our treasurer does 90 percent of her stuff from home.
I resonate with the last questioner. I too don't really know how to network, so when that is brought up as the first step to do things to help I also shut down at that. It's not even that I find interacting with people in social situations to be that bad, I just don't know how to find those social situations in the first place. How does one find a network? I want nothing more than to find one, join and help in whatever way I can, but I don't know how to look for one.
Connect with your local PRIDE Committee. The people who work on organizing PRIDE know how to network and they know how hard it can be to find a network.
I used the Kerch Strait incident to disagree with someone as far as Russian not trying anything military on Trump‘s watch. The only thing that happened was that he walked back his claim, saying that the Kerch straight thing was a minor matter that didn’t affect his overall point.
@@ellawhite4177 the guy was still more interested in justifying his point rather than actually hearing mine. He said that the Kerch Strait incident didn’t matter because he was talking about full scale, military border engagements. Of course, that’s not how he framed it in the first place (he actually said that Russia didn’t try anything during Trump‘s presidency), but that didn’t seem to matter once I demonstrated that he was absolutely mistaken. I even pointed out that this proved that Putin was testing the waters at the time, but that didn’t seem to matter either.

Hope you all are having a more wonderful and productive day though.😊

Good afternoon Mo! I'm sorry your family connections can create such consternation. Belle's calm and informed presentation brings me personal peace.

In the House: well, that didn't take long
and yeah, I can only imagine Poland's going to really push aid to Ukraine, given its willingness to go in. if only we (USA) would follow suit...
Thank you for answering the introvert better than I could.
Poland has so much to repay Russia for...
Yes. Once you contact and let them know your skills the networking extroverts will draw you in. There is always essential stuff that they find difficult or boring. Most of it can be done at home in your pj's and is highly appreciated.
Glad to hear Poland will be at the EU tiller.
Poland has a unique perspective on the Russia problem. They're watching closer than most, and they aren't fooled by what they see.
@@victoriajohnson-parratt6975they have every reason to be on the lookout
Thank you! This context is helpful.
So am I, since I live in the EU!
How many cities are still waiting for Don to pay for rallies?
I saw an article about more city/towns being stiffed for last year's rallies. So, the number is increasing.
All of them probably.
All
All❓ + some abroad for extra security due to protests during State Visits.
Unfortunately Warszawa isn't one of them, we gave him only cheers and 🇺🇸 waving...
I think President Carter would smile at the flag issue:)
It all boils down to "We're all in this together."
3:20 when i realized this I thanked President Carter for coming through for America one last time.
And having an advanced degree does not make them generally intelligent, it means they are very, very knowledgeable about one aspect of one subject.

Good morning.
I may not know where this Road is leading, but I trust the destination will be worth visiting!
@victoriajohnson-parratt6975 It is the idea of the destination that makes the journey worthwhile.
Thank you! 😊

To the introverted autistic of the last question, I can totally relate. That first step is always the hardest to take. I would wager they will be understanding as there are more of us already involved than you might realize.
That last question and answer...
Nailed it, Belle!
Belle gives great advice! We all need to embrace our skillset and apply it as needed.
After years and years of being a football between Germany and Russis, it's great news to hear that Poland is doing well. ❤
Siri, Alexa, and other frakkin' Cylons need tossing out the airlock.
I have noticed an acquainted lady expecting everyone to react to her messages like Siri does to her prompts to change a channel - immediately...
I don't have that default setting myself 😅
From Jekyll and Hyde to foreign policy ... isn't that the same thing? 🤔
Because the next four years will be dominated by Mr Hyde.
I immediately made that connection, then told myself I was crazy. 🤣😂
I love to hear Poland taking over for once ❤🤍
Agree. Poland's TVP news station is very informative.
Siri snd Alexa are always listening that’s how it works. Not surprising they are eavesdropping
Of course they are, by default. How else could they be on the hop of your command before you're done demanding?

As as addendum to that, I believe he wants to change NATO to a protection racket where HE gets the payments.
Yup. Blackmail them like a mafia don who sends out the goons to make the shopkeepers pay for "protection" or the goons burn down the shop.
Half staff is the term used for flags flown on land. Half mast is used at sea. Thank you for the information without drama.
When it comes to Trumpery's turn I hope they manage something with no military in attendance!
It's just as disgusting as the guy himself. 🤮

The electrical engineer that supports Trump is a fine example of how someone that's well educated and intelligent is still susceptible to, and can easily fall into psychological traps such as confirmation bias and denial.

That's why I'm always cautious to say that I haven't fallen for such things myself *yet.* It only takes letting your guard down for just a moment at the wrong time to end up neck deep in something stupid.

Voter turnout wasn't depressed it was suppressed. If you wanted to vote Democrat on election Day you were going to wait 4 to 7 hours
Depends on where you were. I was able to walk in and walk out with the entire voting process taking less than 30min in Northern Virginia. NO LINES AT ALL which to me = depression.
I have also seen the stories from places in Georgia et Al where hours were cut down and places were limited to make it more difficult to access = suppression.
I think both were happening.
@Helen247 oh yeah if you're in a Republican leaning district you're in and out in 10 minutes. That's how voter suppression works. It just is that you were in a part of the town that the Republicans thought had more Republicans than Democrats that's all

What I do and I suggest is
1) find two or three factoids per issue.
Good luck.
Imagine going to someone's funeral and complaining no one is talking about your new job.
I, too, am destitute and not socially functional. Also my skillset is out of date or esoteric, doing a lot of non-academic research online to connect dots and answer academic questions.
I no of zero networks in my area and would be too anxious to call them.
I am considering baking cookies for nearby neighbors with a note that we need to community network but I'm clueless. (So here! Eat cookies!) But even that may take me days to prepare.

TO THE INTROVERT: Do you have a more extroverted friend who can do the reaching out for you? Preferably someone who will also volunteer and then can organically say “hey, do you need someone to help you with bookkeeping? My friend __ is an accountant and they’re the one who told me about the good work y’all do in the first place, they’re just not good at social stuff so they didn’t come with me”
We are all in this together. Perfectly stated
👋 mornin' all hope you have a wonderful day
To the person looking to volunteer: email a local charity or nonprofit whose work you respect and ask if they have a finance committee or need a treasurer.
I can't recall a single instance when Beau or Belle would have been anything less than clear on this.
Most nonprofits would be thrilled to have those skills. Go on their websites and look for volunteer opportunities.
Thank you Belle again from Sterling Heights Michigan USA
Hey Accounting guy! So when it's necessary to network there are two types and they are both talked about in this channel. There is reaching out to established groups via their channels of communication such as what Bell referred to. Which with your anxiety probably would be smoother.
But if you're trying to be part of some local neighborhood or even city council will lead to finding people in your local area. Make sure to specify what you offer and what you would like to support in local groups. That way those who would like to assist in that will easily find you. As that skill is not ubiquitous in groups.
Interesting phrasing on the Musk / Farage section Belle 😀
8 billion to Israel??? WTF! We reap what we sow…😞
I was really hoping that wasn't true!

Pittsburgher here--the Steelworkers are PISSED.
"Come to Washington, Will be wild"

I used the Kerch Strait incident to disagree with someone as far as Russian not trying anything military on Trump‘s watch. The only thing that happened was that he walked back his claim, saying that the Kerch straight thing was a minor matter that didn’t affect his overall point.
😢
Even with everything that has followed? It does matter and was part of the point.
