- A street gang known as The Warriors Movie 1979 must fight their way from the Bronx to their home turf on Coney Island when they are falsely accused of assassinating a respected gang leader.
Cyrus, the leader of the most powerful gang in New York City, the Gramercy Riffs, calls a midnight summit for all the area gangs, with all asked to send nine unarmed representatives for the conclave. A gang called The Warriors are blamed for killing Cyrus as he gives his speech. They now have to cross the territory of rivals in order to get to their own 'hood. The Warriors slowly cross the dangerous Bronx and Manhattan territories, narrowly escaping police and other gangs every step of the way.

Right I still enjoy watching
Yeah, what a movie! I'm 62 now and still love it.
Whatcha think the white guy had to do to become a member of the Riffs?
@@jerryflashatey6660 rap 😂
There was a time not too long ago where gangs were about defending a territory not a skin color.
If you take into account wild animals they do both. I think of a video capture by a hiker who passed a mountain lion and she was a mama and he filmed her chasing him while he hollered at her to go back to her babies. She backed off and he lived to tell the tale.
I have the Directors cut DVD, and the scene where the Warriors walk on the beach at the end goes to an animated still,in fact there are stills all through the film, which is pretty annoying.
Very annoying, I have the same one.
100% Agreed. I immediately ordered the original DVD to replace the director's cut.
Agreed I thought the Directors cut kind of Hampered the power of this ending
This is the only scene not filmed in NYC. No matter where you stand in Coney Island Beach you will see Project housing buildings and depending on the angle, the rides. Sand is too clean as well.
Whatever. Hollywood magic sets is a tourist destination in L.A.
ROCK MUSIC ALWAYS ROCKS...FCK YES!!!

I saw this movie for the first time in 1979 when I was a high school senior. I still say it's the best movie ever.
Me too, and I wasn't born until 4 years later and I still consider it my opinion, the movie of all movies. I've learned & suggested when the summer '79' had the Warriors and the Wanderers playing as a double feature, there's no better combination than that
@@ericwilliams1575 Never see that movie. Is it this? ruclips.net/video/jyqqkQ9DTzA/видео.html
I was 8th grade, we left the theater looking to rumble haha
I was a sophomore when it came out. With that ending and song, you couldn't help leaving the theater all amped up.
@@moviesandpopcorn2958 First time I ever saw the film was in kindergarten around the 88-89 era on Fox36 in Toledo. And it was the beginning scenes of Cleon' s & NY gangs' introduction and Bronx conclave with Cyrus. 4-5 years later in the summer '93' finishing 4th grade, I've watched it again on USA Network Sunday movie afternoon where Swan, Ajax, Snow & Cowboy battled the Baseball Furies to the restroom fight with the Punks. And then in December '94' 6th grade, I've watched the entirety from top to bottom

The level of respect the Riffs showed The Warriors was perfect..
It was the least The Riffs could do. Being hunted down the entire night to kill them for something they didn't do.
Yeah I really liked that as well.
Well they're good. Real good.

I like that Joe Walsh made this great closing song just for the movie. I rarely hear it, but when i do i always think of the Warriors!
Oh wow, I didn't know Joe Walsh made this song for this movie.
Unless i was blind, i did not see Joe in the music credits for this song, I was kind of surprised. I have had Joe;s greatest hits CD for many years and for some reason they did not included this song, I wish they would have.
Joe Walsh, in collaboration with Barry DeVorzon wrote this song specifically for The Warriors. Barry is responsible for the movies soundtrack. Sorry it didn't make your Joe Walsh "best ofs" album.
And later that year, jos’s other band, the eagles, re-recorded it for the long run album
Saw the Eagles live in 2010 and they played this - fantastic 👍

The Riffs were based on the largest gang in NYC in the 70s : The Black Spades. They were a massive gang. When they rolled through they'd take up 2 or 3 Blocks
As a long-time resident of Coney Island, this scene is very sentimental.
I saw this in 1979 at the Shores Madrid. Fond memories of that old movie theater. Back when movies were great. Great movie. They don’t make them like this anymore.
Me and my friends were riding bicycles on riverside drive and bumped into this movie Production, I stopped and asked a crew member what was going on and he said they are making a movie called the "Warriors". We looked around for a few minutes and then we kept on riding towards downtown. I wish i would have stuck around to take in the view a little bit better. That was 1978 or 1979. I was 13 or 14 years at the time.
Even younger people that watch this great movie will watch the credits roll til the end,, I watched my granddaughter and her friends do it! 🤘
I saw this in a cinema in London when it came out (79?) and I caught up with it two years ago on dvd and it still rocks. Of course fashions change but the essence of the film hasn't dated at all. A great watch. I've even lifted a couple of stills from the internet and had them printed onto T shirts. 'You Warriors are good, real good." - "The best." Love it!
One of the BEST movies. I wish I could time warp back to 1978 - 1979 (movie done in 78, released in 79) when NYC was really still NYC
New York city was a shithole back then. When I was a kid in the 80s growing up in Texas I was in love with New York when I actually went in my 20s to play shows with my band, It was a shock to say the least, we arrived at the club we were going to play at, and u went outside to smoke a cigarette and this dude in a 3 piece suit came up to me, asking for a dollar, I was just thinking who the fuck approaches somone dressed like that, asking for money. Only in new york. Im glad I got to visit it several times, but im also glad i didn't grow up in that cess pool.
@@metalmacabre9991 yeah, anyone who wishes those days to come back doesn't really know what the fuck they're asking for. My dad did 20 years as a cop, mostly in Harlem. 1968-88. It was sheer desperation for most people who didn't live or work in Midtown. Especially in the Bronx and Bushwick. There was no hope, the city was broke. You had black militants assassinating cops. Crack Cocaine. and about 6 million people with no way out. My dad still has nightmares about jobs he went to, friends of his from his academy class who got killed on the job during the 70s and 80s. The city was burning. In 1979, the city had 1700 murders. and reported violent felonies (assaults, robberies) were through the roof throughout the city. The murder rate would pretty much remain at that level until 1992. My dad never took us to NY when we were kids unarmed. Even at Radio City Music Hall.
I hope they never ever touch this movie and remake it..This is a classic and it should stay that way.
Oh they will. Because creativity no longer exists. There will be a 90 lb female lead who will toss all these guys around without breathing heavy.

One thing that so often gets overlooked with this scene is that the Grammercy Riffs are not wearing their colors. Out of respect for The Warriors and their turf, they ditched their colors and showed up in plain black t-shirts.

Remarkable that this CLASSIC movie could be made on a shoestring budget with essentially an unknown cast. Epic storyline and powerful performances.

Sad 1979 is when the 70s ended same with 1989 end of 80s and even 90s in 1999 too! Wish it was still 2019 and before!

This movie has captured a kind of magic. Its supposed to be some small budget movie but it transcends it. Truly a cult classic. Love it
I remember watching this classic at the drive in as a 8 year, my 16 yr old son considers this a classic as well.
When i first saw this movie it was the mid 80s. I got home late at night. It was already half over but i loved it. It took a year later before i caught it again in full. It was kind of cool to see the second half first then a year later see how it all unfolded. This is on my all time favorites movie list. The video game is better than the movie but you have to watch the movie first.

CLASSIC. Only Movie Of It's Kind😊.
In memory to may best friend who passed a year ago, we went together to see this movie 45 years ago.
Almost the same. I had an aunt who was alive at the time with her three sons in the same house. The sons were around the same age range as these guys. They had spoken about the 70s and cherished it dearly. When her oldest son passed away in 84, they never were the same or moved on with the times. Back in the late 80s to late 90s when I went visit them. The aura in that house and even in the neighborhood they were in never moved on from the 70s. Right now, it's just one of them still alive. Whenever I watched the Warriors including other movies from the 70s, I always remembered them. I heard listened to a person once and said that, if you had the best time of your life in that decade, be sure the next period won't be the same.
Luther (David Patrick Kelly) is probably my favorite character throughout the entire movie. Not because I liked him so much, but because the acting was *_SO_* damn good my hate for him was intense. He made Luther so hated that you get aggravated just listening to him speak in that whiny, cowardly voice. You rock, David Patrick Kelly!!
I like they how they let him basically go with the character and he improvised the whole bottles and chant thing in the car. Turning that scene alone into one of the most memorable in movie history.

love the guy with the road hockey stick. I can tell you from experience, hit someone with that, it won't last long and break apart. The writer obviously never played road hockey in the mean Canadian streets...
It's a film that is the definition of the idea of a "certain something". You could never pinpoint an exact quality of the film, but it has a certain something. Soundtrack help a lot.
Also in Europe.. this was the movie many of us grew up with. I’m glad I visited Coney Island. It became a bucket list thing.
The Riffs had hockey sticks 😅
One of my all time favorite movies!!
Is it still well known that this most excellent movie is a retelling of the Greek writer Xenophon’s Anabasis (the Expedition) telling how 10,000 Greek mercenaries were hired to fight for the pretender to the Persian crown, Cyrus the Younger? Stranded in Persia the Greek army fought their way to the shores of the Black Sea. It is said that on seeing the water, the cry went up..”Thalatta, Thalatta!” meaning ‘The Sea The Sea!’ Being seafaring Greeks, they knew that once they had found the ocean they could build ships and get home… it’s a great tale and I think Xenophon would not be ashamed to have it hold well as this film does…
I was lucky enough to see this in a theatre in Miami the first time in 1979. Still fabulous in 2024!
The Rogues were the weakest gang in the whole movie. “One on one? You’re crazy!” Is some of the most cowardly 💩 I ever heard! 😆

Just recently found this on Amazon Prime Video and I couldn't resist. It seemed to feed into subsequent films, like "The Road Warrior" and "Escape From New York." Cleon took him out and a few more before the Riffs jumped him.
The 70's and 80's were the golden era for movie soundtracks. Years later I use to repeat the phrase, "Warriors, come out and play", and many people weren't hip enough to know what I was talking about.
