FILM SYNOPSIS
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The Warriors is a 1979 action-adventure film directed by Walter Hill and based on Sol Yurick's 1965 novel of the same name. The movie is set in a dystopian New York City, where various street gangs rule different neighborhoods. The Warriors, a gang from Coney Island, attend a summit called by Cyrus, the leader of the most powerful gang in the city. However, Cyrus is assassinated, and the blame falls on the Warriors, who must fight their way back to their home turf while being hunted by every other gang in the city. The movie follows their journey as they navigate through the treacherous streets of New York, encountering rival gangs and the police, while struggling to prove their innocence and survive the night. With its iconic soundtrack, memorable characters, and stylized action sequences, "The Warriors" has become a cult classic over the years and remains a beloved film in the genre of gang movies.

This movie is a CLASSIC that needs to be recognized as an iconic movie!!!!!!
🗣️ Facts!
I took the grandkids to see the "Tom and Jerry" movie last year. In the one scene Tom and Jerry were hiding from a group of alley cats with their leader saying "Tom and Jerry come out to plaaay yay!"
That’s the straight church yo!
Amen 🙏
This movie is best known for gang members all over USA and this is story of dangerous crime in all big cities in USA crime Is up way up.
The Warriors had an incredibly talented cast of brilliant actors.
the white guy killed it for me, it looked so phony with his jive
Apparemtly not because after that they do not much
That "Warriors, come out to play." Scene was so iconic. Great bit of improv.
Getty Lee's best work.
Yep, 45 years later when I see those bottles, I think of that. Ha
I heard a version of that line on the intro of a Twisted Sister album and never knew where it came from until a few years ago when I saw The Warriors for the first time. I'm ashamed to say I don't remember when the movie first came out, although I should've seeing as how I was 7 years old at the time. Oh well, better late than never!
My wife and I were 20 when this amazing movie came out, we watched it at a drive in theater. We’re 63 now and we still love this movie.
WOW! The best gang movie ever! The curiosity about Cyrus is awesome, the actor just stepped in and "Can you dig it?" Good memories...
It's because of this movie that one of the best movies of 1979 only received a limited release and flopped but went on to become a cult classic after playing on HBO, Over the Edge.
After gang violence in theaters that played this movie and the negative press from that Orion Pictures was afraid something similar would happen if Over the Edge was given a wide release.
And what a shame because it's the single best movie that realistically shows what life was like for teens in the late 70's.
Just like Lee Ermey he was helping an actor to do the lines in full metal jacket then he stepped in and got the role
you're kidding right???? this was thee stupidest "gang" movie ever made. Baseball Furies!?!? C'MON!!
@@biggtrux I respect your opinion buddy, but this is mine, sorry.
@@biggtrux
That is the movies one flaw, the themes of some of the gangs, killer mimes and painted baseball players.
But aside from that it's an excellent movie, and reflects what the streets of NYC were like at the time, it's hard for someone who wasn't around in those days to get their head wrapped around the fact that if things kept going the way they were in NYC then the premise of the movie Escape From New York was perfectly feasible, just throwing a wall up around the place and turning it into a prison wasn't a far fetched idea back then, I'm always having to explain that to younger people who watch that movie and don't understand why they would do that, I have to explain to them that at that point Times Square wasn't the tourist trap it is these days, back then it was full of porno theaters, pimps, hookers, muggers and pickpockets, you took your life in your hands going to Times Square in the daytime back then much less at night.
NYC exited the 80's a very different city it was when it entered it.
I still say "Warriors, come out to play-eee-aaay" and "Can...you...dig it!?" all the time. 40+ years later. Classic movie.
YESSS. Someone remembers the best line of the movie and ONLY this movie can it ever be heard!!
....come out to play-eee-aaay.
that's where the line from Twisted Sister's album came from "Come Out And Play." You can probably find it on RUclips.
I'll say "Can you dig it"
Some people get it, most don't.
Classic!
ANd also the song "Warriors" from the band "Dark age" , from LP of 1984 , starts with "Warriors, come out to play-eee-aaay"
LOVE the warriors. So sad to see those who have died, damn shame. All of them will forever be in my heart.
Iconic
True but James Remar still lives. He may be old like swan, but he still alive.
one of my favorite movies
We grew old together.
Warriors still rock!
R.I.P to the fallen 🙏❤️
“In the city” has always been my favorite Joe Walsh song. It fit the movie perfectly.
Yes!
We must have similar tastes in music, I couldn't agree more!
I play it on the beach in Atlantic city
Feels like I'm in the actual movie!
Cheers

I actually did not like this song until I saw the movie
Never a dull moment in this one. I’ve seen this movie 20 times…don’t think I can say that about any other movie.
I feel like that about BEAT STREET too !
That was the most extensive update of characters for a movie I’ve ever seen, great job!

Both the Warriors and the Wanderers were released the same year, and both were awesome.
And totally different
@@drhkleinert8241: I wouldn't say totally different. Nonetheless they were both great films that did well at the box office.
Yup both movies based on gangs.
@@mikerefutesapetheists3398 wanderers is 60s....warriors is 70s....both brilliant films, i would say the warriors feels dirtier though.
And Konrad Sheehan is in both movies playing the leader of the Punks and Ducky Boys
The Warriors gets better every time I watch it. A great film!
I remember watching this on Cinemax back in the early 80s. Loved this movie the first time I saw it as a 12 year old. Now 40 years later I still love it, have seen it many times. The soundtrack is awesome too.
😊🎶🎶🎶
in 2016 I went to a Halloween party dressed as a Baseball Furrie, I ran into a group of guys dressed as The Warriors. All night long random people were saying movie quotes to us. It was a fun costume and proves this movie has a big fan base
I was 18 when this movie came out. Saw it at the drive-ins. And I thoroughly enjoyed it. Brings back some fun memories.
Oh yes drive ins.... fun memories.😚😊
Did you smash that day?
Aint that shit crazy we seen it first weekend it was out at 19. Can't believe 43 years ago. Bet none of those actors knew they was in a classic.
I was negative 2 years old IN 1979. I watched this with my dad. I think I'm going to have my 12 year old watch it with us. It is an amazing classic.
I was 16. Must have seen this over 20 times.
This is a great movie. I can't even count the number of times I have watched it, but it's one of those movies that you could watch over and over again and never get tired of seeing it.
I could hardly get through 1 time it was so corny. Didn't have one gang or character that was intimidating or scary. Goofy ass gangs nobody would be scared of🤦
@@jeffring8954sorry you feel that way. I hope there's a movie out there that can get u to feel the way we do. 👍🏾!!!
I remember watching this when I was 9 years old and I don't think the younger generation realizes how much this movie was ground breaking for it's time.
Because it absolutely WASN'T.
@@biggtrux Ok, then tell me a movie that was groundbreaking in your time?
I never heard of this being ground breaking. What’s ground breaking about it. No special effects, not good lighting or costume, all in the family was on TV…. What are you talking about? Please please explain
@@TheKidHastin It was an original idea that no one had ever thought of before. Is that enough?
@@dolam I was about the same age when first seen this and the wanderers and mad max, they were the talk of the boys in the playground alright
I have watched this great classic over hundreds of times, and I still enjoy it as much as when I watched it the very first time. It just never gets old. They just don't make movies like this anymore. What a great cast and a great director. Damn, getting old really sucks. Another great gang flick was The Wanderers.
That was another great film. The part when they tie a rope with a rock attached to that bloke penis and throw the rock of the bridge. The rope was to long though. 😆 🤣
Good call with The Wanderers! Another classic!
Memory lane here, saw this movie when I was in the U.S. Navy, 1979, stationed at Guantanamo Bay Cuba. All of us that saw the movie outdoors thought it was fantastic!! I’ve never forgot it, liked all the characters, Ajax was my favorite, got the movie on DVD for memories, sad some have passed away, R.I.P. to those that did 🙏🏻
I saw it on a RCA video disc on leave from the Navy in 1981
What's a DVD? Is that like a mechanism for story telling or something?
I love that the movie is finally getting recognized more.
I was like 9 years old when the movie came out and living in Brooklyn. Me and my friends loved this movie and would take the subway to Coney Island and say we are warriors. Still love this movie till this day. It can never be remade. Brings back lots of memories living in Brooklyn at the time.
Great memory!
9 yrs? In germany it was in theatres allowed over 16 yrs.

Was in a club when I was younger called the Warriors. This is the movie that put us together. The memories....Time is running over all of us. Thanks for this video.
This is a 'must own' movie so I can watch it every 5 or 6 years. Also nice to know most of the cast is still alive and kickin'.

Of course, and its great that my wife love this movie too. Were 57 and 52 yrs old, so its not only for the younger ones.
The Warriors is in my Top 5 movies ever made! Everything from the storyline, the music, and the grittiness really pulls you in to the movie. I always figured they would do a updated modern version of it…but some things are better left untouched especially this gem! Watch this movie in 4K OMG I fell in love with the movie all over again. My only curiosity is how the movie would have turned out if Cleon stayed a main character throughout the whole movie…his energy was bad ass!
I remember one night in the 90s this movie came on TV. I was at a loose end and I was about 15-16. So it came on TV and figured "what the hell, I'll watch this" as it had an interesting start to the film that grabbed my attention! Holy shit! It blew my mind. Everything about screamed out to me at that time in my life, it was the coolest gang movie ever. Will never forget it and still love it to this day. It's a special movie and will never be beaten. Sometimes stars align for these type of films and what gets captured becomes priceless.
They will never make a new 1.. Cause we need batman 8 or a new cheesy romance comedy 🙄
@@TheBFN Yeah, I just can't get enough of those superhero movies. Such deep plots.
I agree, it's in my top 5 aswell. I even have the video game and it's just like the movie.
Cleon wasn't as cynical as Swan. Cleon knew what he was doing when he named Swan deputy war chief. Instead of Ajax. Swan was smart, cool under pressure, and be could "bop." The problem for Cleon was that Luther was a cunning little psychopath. I really liked Mercy. She just captured the moment. Her and Swan really had a Romeo and Juliet thing going. With a happier ending. I think Swan woulda left the gang life soon after. Joined the military, become a mercenary or a cop. Ajax becomes a hit man for sure.
They re enacted the subway trip a few years ago in full gear. The reactions of the regular passengers was priceless.
Link?
I saw that, really good :)
Yeah I remember seeing a full documentary about it,they did a warriors get together every year at Coney Island, but said it was the last one they doing during it

I was first introduced to this movie when I was younger - HBO (when they used to show movies) would put this on late at night - it is such a period movie - and so iconic!
Hey Boppers,
My name is Moise Morancy. I’m the writer, director and producer on this proof of concept. I also star as Cleon in this. If you’re like me, someone who appreciates and loves “The Warriors,” you know in 2005, Rockstar created a video game based on the cult classic and gave a backstory to how the gang was formed. Myself and others believe this needs to be remade as a prequel. No one can hold a candle to the originators but I wanted to pay homage and give them their flowers. Because they weren’t good…they were “the best.”
I hope you enjoy! 🙏🏿
I had the game on ps2 was a good game.

Seeing the cast of THE WARRIORS in this 'celebrities then and now' video is so nostalgic! It's amazing how they've all changed over the years
The reason I like this is because it actually had focus on a lot of the minor characters that really made the movie so great. Good job on that...
I was 16 when this movie started playing at our local movie theater at Midnight. Along side The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Talk about a diverse group. This movie was ahead of it's time. A stylized version of street gangs with a great plot. This movie was filmed entirely at night and was very challenging for the film crew. But it paid off. One of the top ten cult classics in my opinion.
It's been a long time since I've seen it but I'm pretty sure the final scene at the beach was not shot at night.
It's a retelling / interpretation of Xenophon's work "Anabasis" from 401 BC.
I suppose you meant the filming challenges they needed to overcome were ahead of their time, since the story itself is over 2000 years old.

She was never all about herself like so many of the young divas then and now. Also saw her in Streets of Fire with Michael Pare and King of the Mountain with Harry Hamlin. She was special.
I still watch and love this movie in 2023!!!!
One of the best channels on RUclips!
Thanks Stephen, glad you're enjoying the channel, that's very much appreciated! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Tremendous movie. Saw this when I was about 10 years old and just became infatuated with it. Seen it way over 100 times by now. Just always loved the quiet but brutal Snow and Cochise was a great role. Vermin and Ajax, dang...gritty film with great characters.
If you have a moment, look up the deleted scenes from the warriors. Especially the beginning. It explains each of their roles in the gang.

@@matoko123 You are 100% correct. I sincerely apologize. Thanks for keeping me honest in my manners.
@@dg2015 Well I was not expecting that. I wish you well, enjoy your research :)
Love this movie it's an instant classic.....I know what im watching when i get home
Still one of my favourite movies, I have the soundtrack still, baseball furies still the best tune ever
There have been so many announcements of a sequel, or prequel, even Tony Scott (Top Gun) said that he was interested by shooting another Warriors based in L.A.
My own story? I was in Europe when I saw the movie, and because of it, decided to go to New-York; I got there in 1983; went to Coney Island to look at the Stauch Baths building where you could still see the Warriors graffiti. I also went underneath the board walk, and the Stillwell avenue subway station of Coney Island. This was quite a trip down memory lane...
The Warriors, this was a great movie when I was a kid and still is one of my all time favorites!!!👍👏👏👏✌
Excellent ! I love the content! Thank you for not trying to clickbait with a after picture showing the actors looking like they are all on skid row! I subscribed just because the before and after was so positive.
Love these classic movies! No CGI just great acting!
I love that movie. All the actors are beautiful and aged well💙
An absolute classic of a movie. Still great now after all the sands of time has passed.
When it first came out here it was Restricted Adults 18 +
But I watched it from my suburban home roof with a radio tuned into the movie's speaker frequency. 👍 Yes I wanted to be a Warrior but it also showed how dangerous it could be.
I really wish they'd remake the game too. It introduced me to the movie! Man they were so good. Probably the best movie-game I've ever played.
I am still amazed at Rockstar Games' attention to detail. Close to perfect. I have spent many happy hours playing it with my son over the years. I wish they'd update the graphics, etc and re-release it.
Thanks that was great it must have taken ages to make
Thanks Alex, glad you enjoyed it. Every video takes roughly a week to make! Love putting them together. Thanks for watching and commenting.
