What do hedge funds actually do? How do they make money?
Hedge funds can be distinguished by other investment entities, as they
make money out of thin air.
Hedge funds apply strategies that are different than conventional investments:
• Arbitrage trading
• Buying distressed securities
• Pump and dump
• Long-short
• Market neutral
• Global macro
Their legal entity structure is similar to Private Equity funds - General-Limited Partnership model
Typically, they have a short-term horizon;

How can you hope to pass the CFA if you’re watching a video explaining what a hedge fund does?

One can't bet on all the horses in a race at the same time, AKA to hedge a bet.
Hedge a bet is to protect yourself against loss by supporting more than one possible result or both sides in a competition: AKA zero percent interest rates.
This would create an average of zero percent interest rates. Not including the banks overhead cost to run a banking system.
If the precedence is to reward the risk takers, then hedging a bet negates the risk. Which also negates the profits.
Some horses you bet on wins, some horses you bet on loses, so in a hedge fund, there will be an average of zero.
And remember, all these bets are on veblen goods only. Not our must have items.

Better than that pick a book about Hedge Fund , if you are interested to this field you have to put the required work (those man work 12-14 hours making 7 figures).

The only way i know of hedge funds is that they invest with money that comes from holding customer's money and then making a few pennies from every transaction until they have to return money from returned goods. If you handle millions of return like Zalando, you can get rich from this.
