Miss Mavis belted this out yesterday at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival for the Gospel set. Even with the altitude, she belted out! WOOOOOO, she was amazing!
The great Mavis is such a beautiful living legend. I love her style, her voice, her energy and her great love for the Lord! Rock on, Mavis! We love you~!!!
I have the 12-inch "maxi-single" dance track that was released by the Staples in 1984. It was a hit record -- very popular in the clubs. They performed this song on Soul Train. Hard to believe Pops performed this song, but he was fantastic!
This was originally done by Mavis and The Staple Sisters. Talking Heads covered them. Agree, Arcade Fire is good live, but can't come close to the Talking Heads.
The Staples Singers covered this in the 1980s. This performance is that version. Pops Staples sang the male part. I assume Talking Heads approved of the Staples version because Pops played on the True Stories record and is in the True Stories movie.

Mavis is THE most incredible singer! She's so short but her voice is BIG!

Proof that GOOD music knows no AGE. 👍🏼👏🏼
Brilliant cover...pays respectful tribute to the original while putting their own unique spin on it!
Miss Mavis….an national treasure

The moment at the end between Mavis and Regine is so cute! You can tell how much fun they are having, it makes my heart happy.
"Put away that gun! This part is simple."
this definitively merits a lot more view!!~

Videos got more wipes than a roll of Charmin.
i wonder if mavis like all the things she said by simple minds
I'm not surprised how good this cover is; Arcade Fire wishes they could be Talking Heads.

@@perryvellucci3230 I wouldn't go that far but yeaa.. Talking Heads are amazing but common so is AF.
@@perryvellucci3230 it's a Talking Heads tune :) Staple Sisters covered them.
John Giaquinta it’s a talking heads song. I’m not sure what this link is supposed to prove?
The song was written and released by Talking Heads in 1983. The Staple Singers released their version in 1984.
Omg they should have let Mavis solo that. Ugh Talking Heads must be crying right now You dont mess up a classic

@@dcampagna1772 thank you for the awesome information!...
@@dcampagna1772 i just loved the way Pops shook his head when he played guitar on stage!
@@jaymanz72584 The one thing I forgot to mention -- David Byrne is playing the rhythm guitar part on the Staples track.
This is NOTHING compared to the Stop Making Sense version. Absolutely nothing.
It doesn't fit.
