Make videos shorter, ppl don't want or have time for long explanations. It toke you 2 mins to start getting to the point, you will struggle to keep ppls attention if you can't explain yourself in 15 seconds. Even I know you probably have good information, but don't feel like watching it because of its length, and speeding it up because you talk so slowly wont help, due to the fact that this is a fighting game and I actually need to watch the vid troughly. (But I still speed it up to 1.5 and u seems to be talking like a normal at that speed, which is bad!) Anyway good stuff, I also get lots of ppl asking me the same thing just wanted to make sure I was giving them correct advice. (Of course I also learned a few things here and there I won't deny that)
I love the how you and TGN Anime are actually talking about these type things. They are so extremely important and overlooked. You guys are the reason I'm getting better!! THANK YOU JTAILS 🙏🙏🙏
I used to play fifa n cod for years. Switched to fighting games 4 months back for a new challenge. Its hard. But i love studying the game n improving. Mainly sfv n dbfz. And i always feel its best to have the basics right. N love people who follow that approach. So i subscribed. Cheers man.
Very well done. I'm 100% a casual player at best but this not only will help me up my game, but it will help make watching the FGC easier by knowing what's happening.
Even though I kinda knew all this, having the info the way you presented it will play back in my head as I'm playing and will help me panic less, thank you.
I know I'm five months late to the video but just wanted to say that this video is extremely useful from a completely new player's POV(I only started yesterday.) Real nice to see you're still in the fighting game scene. I first heard about you from the early Sm4sh tournament scene. Keep it up!
Thank you for making this video, you are the only person who has made a video like this highlighting all the many aspects of this game other than just combo videos, so thanks
These points are exactly what people need to get better. U should do a spectate video series on each topic cuz they are all very important and can be expanded on more. Perfect video. I need to work on these points myself
Makes me hsppy knowing I dont need these crazy combos to be good. I came from Street Fighter as a Vega main. I only poked and did quick short combos with him and got too top 100 Vega's. This game gets ya excited and its easy to panic but with your vid I think I can get in a better mind set on playing my way and focusing on what Im really good.
Jtails, just wanted to say how much i really appreciate the style of your video. There's lots of great FrighterZ content out there, but i loved the calm friendly demeanor of this video and how it really feels that you want to share wisdom!
As a fighting game player with practically no experience with ASW games, or tag fighting games for that matter, I'm really looking forward to your videos. Thanks for this.
Excellent video! These are the aspects I've been struggling with as well. Especially when picking up new characters. Focus on neutral, defense, and oki is a tough concept for new players to grasp and I'm glad you're covering it
You helped me so much with smash ultimate and you also have dbfz content? You’re awesome dude, thanks for all the great videos, your explanations are the best.
I'm eagerly awaiting the videos on these topics! I've been hitting a wall where my combo game is fine in the practice room but in a match I can't stop getting hit long enough to do anything, or I mess up my blosckstring pressure and get punished.
I actually really love this. There are far too many character guides on RUclips that tell you what one or two moves do, then proceed to do combos for 10 minutes straight (...UnderDawg *cough*).
Hey I recognize you from Smash 4! Good video, I liked the part where you showed how you counter 16's string with deflect, please include more specific practical exemples like this one in your future videos. /Subscribed
Hey bro I JUST found your channel and youre instantly gaining another sub. No one i asked (and i asked quite a few people) helped me with the neutral in DBFZ because I came from a 1v1 fighting game like MkX and im brand new the the anime fighter and I was to the point where I wanted to give up because I couldn't understand the key differences and why I was getting my defense blown up.
Keep posting this lvl of quality bro amazing explanation very clear to understand with plenty of examples. Anyone can make tutorials but are they able to explain in a manner where anyone can understand? Hope your channel gets noticed bro, you got this
I'm just getting into dbfz (I know I'm late!), this video is super helpful. I'll definitely he subbing and checking out your other videos in the series. Thank you for this!
Thank you for making this video, I've been playing for a while (Used to play the hell out of MvC2, Guilty Gear XX, Blazblue) but I have never been a terribly technical player. I never learned the technical terms for a lot of actions going on the screen other than my options at the point where I was at mid game. I was actually going to look up what "meaty" attacks actually mean because I've been getting my stuff kicked in by pink players in DBF lol. The last fighting game that I played mandatory on fight stick was MvC2 and I still have the pushblock habits ingrained and had been getting completely destroyed during Pressure strings because i was hitting buttons while blocking lol. I know that my neutral game is decent, combo's are alright, defence was trash (better now though) and my Oki is abysmal. I've been in situations that have made me rage really hard that I'm hoping you might be able to help me with if you have a moment to explain the mechanic I would GREATLY appreciate it! I've been playing a lot of Gohan and get caught in his Lvl3 super after a long bnb combo, but what is frustrating is that on wake up (The entire time I'm holding back to block) he throws out a Masenko or a Goku black Kamehameha and no matter what I do... My character doesn't block and it feels like my character just got wiped for no reaosn and it triggers. What is the correct response if you know a beam special is coming *OR if you can predict their attack direction* to be able to block coming up? Block should be active on frame 1, right? Or is that some kind of f****d up frame trap? Like Beam attack that is blocked followed by Vanish if the opponent tries to hit buttons? Thank you so much for any help! Before my method of trying to improve was simply getting my ass beat until I got better, and have always been amazed at how people are able to improve with the training mode, other than just practicing muscle memory for AID's or labing combo strings!
So here I am watching your videos on how to improve when it suddenly strikes me that, not only do I recognize your name, but I got totally destroyed in a match by you recently!! I also play on PC and go by PrinceKasysar93 (in case you might also remember kicking my ass, but I'm sure you wreck peeps left and right on a regular basis lol). It's funny because I'm sitting here feeling encouraged by your videos to keep training, but I never thought I'd be learning from the guy who wiped the floor with me so ruthlessly in game a few nights ago via casual match. Tbh my confidence was totally crushed in that moment, but now I feel both honored and humbled to have been beaten by you...it was quite an eye-opening experience to say the least. Thank you so much for helping out those of us who still have much to learn. Subscribed!
It doesnt matter if you're good at combos if you're always being outplayed and can't get combos going anyway. Like I could have barebones combos that only do 25% but since I can outplay someone and block them consistently or win neutral everytime they'll never win
People are so inclined to think that combos are the most important goddamn thing in every fighter. Guys. Timing. Spacing. Judgement. Strategy. These matter more than memorizing a bunch of one-frame links. Master that only after learning those. Go win some player matches in mortal kombat with only the uppercut, leg sweep, specials, and x-ray, and you'll understand.
fireflocs valid point but fighterz and mortal kombat are/have different fighting styles. I play both, totally different mindset for each. You still have a good point to your statement, but I just wanted to point out that; FighterZ and Mortal Kombat play differently.
It's been hard for me coming from tekken 7 to learn the movement of dragon ball fighterz. I keep getting rushed with those damn combos sometimes not getting a chance to even attack
This is great! Though I wonder a lot about 2 things that I also don't see discussed much: *Disparity in character picks-* People are more likely to win without fundamentals using A-Gohan, GBlack, 16, and now Bardock, with a Vegeta assist. *A lack of defensive options-* Deflecting or Tech'ing (on wakeup no less, meaning you've already been hit once) are your only options. How much does that increase in difficulty against the relevant character matchups. I guess you'll be discussing this further anyway but I know these two points are issues (and vids I watch) about what they want to see in the future of DBFZ.
Defensive options would definitely be something I'd love to see. Some type of parry or perfect block maybe. Or at least a better way to circumvent pressure as bigger characters against pressure heavy characters in the corner lol.
There's no meter based defense. I won't pretend I'm a fighting game veternan anything of the sort, but I was under the impression that, at least the games I've tried, most had some sort of meter based defensive options. Yes guard cancel uses meter and is technically a defensive option, but it has no more armor then a normal super dash and can get clipped by an in-progress block string making it very risky. A two meter 100% success rate counter with minor damage and a reset back to neutral, for example, would be outstanding just to deal with some of the ridiculous pressure that can be put on you from block strings and assists. I don't think anyone wants a ridiculous counter to which they can then pull off a free optimal combo or anything, just the OPTION to prevent pressure loops when cornered.
So, I'd back this 100% if you make normal guard cancel's cost half a bar and guaranteed 'guard reversal' cost 1 bar. Either that, or leave it all as is, and increase the amount of bar you gain when you're stuck in a blockstring for a long period of time. I find this is one of the main issues with huge blockstring pressures and meter management. The person on the offensive gets about 2x more bar than you when doing the blockstring. They can do a blockstring that gains 1.5 -2 bars, and use a bar but the defending character gets about 0.8/0.9 of a bar for successfully blocking everything. Another thing I'd also want changing, is deflect STOPPING all advancing normals from...advancing! Deflect Yamcha starting his autocombo successfully? Congrats - his third autocombo hits you anyway! Deflect GokuBlue's autocombo? Congrats - his third overhead hits your jab and beats it! Basically, get rid of some of the janky-ness of defensive options.
AGohan actually needs decent fundamentals from what I've seen, and Goku Black is just all fundamentals. 16 and Broly imo are the only characters who can bring free success because of their ability to bypass the neutral with armor lol
We'll have to agree to disagree there. I find that AGohan has a lot of pressure tools, so much so that not having all-round good fundamentals (on offensive, defensive and in a general gameplan) doesn't matter. He just devolves into rush down until you guess wrong. Lets be honest, he isn't top tier for nothing. If you ever played SFV, you'll probably categorise this as "Braindead" gameplay. Laura and Mika were in that catagory, and I agreed. I mained Laura, and the gameplan was "get in-stay in" so its just a guessing game. That's kind of where I see AGohan and 16. Not so much Broly...because his combo potential is so limited and relies HEAVILY on mostly conditioning a player.
What I try and do is watch closely at how people play different compared to myself. Ill then try and add some of those techniques to my gameplay little by little and it works somehow. I also like to camp and watch the world burn so do that to.
Yeha the video is to long, ppl dont like that. I kinda lose interest when I watch a video with 2 digits in the minutes side, and some videoes u just can't use the x1.5 or x2 speed.
Thats so helpfull I played tekken and was really good there but here I get frustrated loosing against mashers cuz I cant do shit all I did is learning combos and still lose
I happen to have a dark green tile status. I know this is partly cause I am not that good at the game, but there are very few often no people in the server with the same color tile actually playing matches, so most matchups I get take a very long time to que and are often either very easy or too difficult for me. Its hard to improve when you practice against either sitting ducks, or eagles with firearms.
Bruh fuckin thank you for this video bro ive been all over youtube trying to understand why im so trash and your the only one who is actually able to explain why lmao
need the nxt episode in the series...im steadily climbing up the ranks but i kno im not optimal & i dnt have any sparking combos..i dnt kno what i should focus on set ups, nooch, combos..#Broly/Vegeta/Cell
What are some good teams with Adult Gohan? (and who should be point etc) Also: is it really not viable to put together a team of characters you just want to play?
I mean you could do whatever you want, but there is a certain flow to the game that just kind of makes sense and is objectively effective. characters with little to no synergy, you're always going to be climbing an uphill battle on that. A Gohan could be point or anchor, not really a mid though. A Gohan is one of those characters that can suit any team but he works especially well with beam assists and vegeta.
Exactly why In win against my Friends who are great if they get a hit in but they simply can't. Because I block everything. And Tech their dragon rushes.
It's really simple actually. Get set play for your team, memorize it, land a hit, rinse and repeat. This is exactly what all the top players do get set play and just memorize it and do it
Hey Jtails! I'm new to the DBZ community and I'm trying to play amazingly competitive in this game. My previous competitive games were Smash4 and now SmashU. I heard there was a huge update recently, I'm nervous if the tips and tricks in this video still carry on after the update. Does it still carry on? Also, can we have like a little private session in RUclips's messages? (I'm like the only person in the world who doesn't have social media ;-;). If you can't, it's all good! I'm just trynna' be the best puertorrican dbfz player :).
Ok, so I haven’t finished the video, but I just want to say, I don’t play any form of ranked, as I don’t have Xbox gold. I just want to be able to do 2 things, one, I want to be able to beat level 100 enemies, and 2, I want to be able to unlock ssgss goku and vegeta, without dying by gotenks in the first round.
I guess this explains why I feel like an impostor for reaching a reasonably good rank in FighterZ. I suck at combos, usually takes me a few attempts to get one right in lab against a practice dummy. So throw me into the chaos of an online match, plus a bit of game lag for good measure...just not gonna happen. I usually just do autos plus a couple vanishes and basic extensions because I'm probably going to miss if I try something more complex. However. The rest of my fundamentals are pretty solid, so I do win more matches than I lose. Seems that good combos are the least important piece of the puzzle so to speak.
Thanks for this awsome video Jtails. One question, how do you recognize if there a gap in block string? If I mashing reflect in block strings, will it act as an option select if there a gap or opponent stagger their button? I'm still not very familiar with all the block strings of each character.
Hey Jtails quick question about learning the ranges. How do you actually do it. Do you learn the range of each move specifically in the lab or do you rely on getting a feel for it?
Ace AOE I bet it's both. I learned Talim from Soul Calibre from doing bith training and just playing. It rly is practice makes perfect. Most fighting games follow the similar fundamentals that JTails has covered. For bigger characters, area control is their thing. For smash players, knowing your main helps for eons lol An example of a broken fighter game is actually earlier DBZ titles where strings of the same button was the main way to dish damage. High end fighters tend to implement more defense and techniques a player can learn. imo really.
I didn't even know what Neutral was before this video.... I've been doing that all this time? ... I just called it "wild west staredown".... And here I thought my name for it was original and good.... :c
I suck so bad at this game, and I don't want to trade it in because I spent $20 extra dollars for four DLC characters (Android17/ Broly/ Zamasu/ and Cooler).
Yeah I have the same problem , I cant get to pink . Im stuck at yellow and orange , after I get to orange I always rank down back to yellow :/ But well its my first tag or anime fighter ( I only played 1 vs 1 fighters )
I tell you how to move up in the ranks, when you encounter a lag switcher quit, when you encounter someone exploiting the game quit. Don't give your points to cheaters. If you play ranked matches then you already know the majority of the community is lag switchers.
close! Flashygoodness has a similar style to Anamanagucci. but yeah it's from Rivals of Aether which is also on PC, and the song itself is from an original game called Tower of Heaven.
Just for the sake of knowing, it looks like adult gohans down medium has a low priority. My question is does it get beaten by a lot of other down mediums?
No, they would clash if done at the same time. but if another down medium hits it before the hitbox comes out then it loses. if another down medium hits it after this hitbox finishes then you get punished also.
You are the first person to ever helpfully explain Neutral.
Thanks man I've done it a lot with smash and it's tough sometimes to transfer my thoughts over to other people. Glad it has been so helpful.
Your absolutely right so many players try to do their 60 hits combos at all times, but when you know how to avoid that they have nothing left.

I don't have lag which makes that harder
Thank you so much! You are helpful and organized, I also believe that auto mixups are important to have in your back pocket
Not all though, I’m pretty sure some characters don’t have a low attack in the auto combo so you can just block low

Toff
underdawg is also a huge douche
UnderDawg was trash at for honor idk about fighterz tho

What I try and do is watch closely at how people play different compared to myself. Ill then try and add some of those techniques to my gameplay little by little and it works somehow. I also like to camp and watch the world burn so do that to.
Great video Jtails!!!
Thank you so much!
Good stuff jtails...😎✏✏
good video I didn't watch it but yeah good shit
LOL
Does anyone?
You sounded like Aris there for a sec
LOL
Yeha the video is to long, ppl dont like that. I kinda lose interest when I watch a video with 2 digits in the minutes side, and some videoes u just can't use the x1.5 or x2 speed.
Long time no see, Nice vids Jules, wish I could play with you sometimes but our schedules don't match 😭, I'll catch your sub streams one of these days
you've made a subscriber out of me man. Thank you so much
Thank you for this video mate. Great tips. Will definitely help me up my game. Keep em coming :)
"You're gonna get blown up, you're gonna get opened up, you're gonna eat a full combo."
Nice vídeo man! I was looking for content like this to improve. Keep uploading these kind of videos please! cheers
Thats so helpfull I played tekken and was really good there but here I get frustrated loosing against mashers cuz I cant do shit all I did is learning combos and still lose
Thanks for these tips, really informative
Excellent video man keep up the good work 🙂
I happen to have a dark green tile status. I know this is partly cause I am not that good at the game, but there are very few often no people in the server with the same color tile actually playing matches, so most matchups I get take a very long time to que and are often either very easy or too difficult for me. Its hard to improve when you practice against either sitting ducks, or eagles with firearms.
When is your video on neutral coming? Thanks 4 the video 👍🏻
The next one coming out is actually going to be about defense due to popular demand. I'm trying to get it out this weekend!
Bruh fuckin thank you for this video bro ive been all over youtube trying to understand why im so trash and your the only one who is actually able to explain why lmao
Thank you for the comment! I try to explain a lot of the games I play in this way. I try to put myself in the shoes of brand new players :)
Thank you again bro i will be tuning in to learn more from you !!!
Awesome video
thank you!!
amazing video. so much truth
need the nxt episode in the series...im steadily climbing up the ranks but i kno im not optimal & i dnt have any sparking combos..i dnt kno what i should focus on set ups, nooch, combos..#Broly/Vegeta/Cell
Rivals of aether playing in the background.
Robert11 I use adult/teen gohan, cell then vegeta
Awesome video but 4S in this game is called Reflect, with R instead of D although I also think it should be called Deflect lol
Subscribed keep it up my boi
Thank you so much! I appreciate that :)
Pretty impressive
Exactly why In win against my Friends who are great if they get a hit in but they simply can't. Because I block everything. And Tech their dragon rushes.
It's really simple actually.
Get set play for your team, memorize it, land a hit, rinse and repeat.
This is exactly what all the top players do get set play and just memorize it and do it
Boy u said a mouth full when u said your defense is good... I watch ur match it over 9000!!! Lol plz make that defense video frfr
Thanks I needed this vid
nice tower of heaven music
Super helpful awesome video 👍
Thank you! I'll be going deeper on all these topics in the coming days.
This video is great i can't wait to be done with this semester to finally sit down and train by the way whats the soundtrack you use in this video
Oh that RoA bgm though
Hey I'm glad you noticed! :p
My defense is horrible and sometimes I drop combos when I can't focus
So the neutral is the first date right? Then after dinner, her block string starts.
exactly
Very helpful
You actually dont need to reflect 16 236S or 214S, its not a blockstring, you can mash L at the startup of it.
No matter how I try, I still can't get good at this game...
Oh well,
Back to *X E N O V E R S E 2*
I feel the same way
Thanks for this awsome video Jtails. One question, how do you recognize if there a gap in block string? If I mashing reflect in block strings, will it act as an option select if there a gap or opponent stagger their button? I'm still not very familiar with all the block strings of each character.
Fitri Zainol wow this is actually a good question
Subscribed !!
Thank you!
+Jtails No, thank 👉YOU👈 ^^
Hey Jtails quick question about learning the ranges.
For smash players, knowing your main helps for eons lol
An example of a broken fighter game is actually earlier DBZ titles where strings of the same button was the main way to dish damage. High end fighters tend to implement more defense and techniques a player can learn. imo really.
Hey jtails, are u gonna try to get into the summit of power? I think you can get a lot better and learn a lot there
I didn't even know what Neutral was before this video.... I've been doing that all this time? ...
I just called it "wild west staredown".... And here I thought my name for it was original and good.... :c
Great video! Are you still planning to make more?
yes one will be uploaded today!
I suck so bad at this game, and I don't want to trade it in because I spent $20 extra dollars for four DLC characters (Android17/ Broly/ Zamasu/ and Cooler).
Hey bro where are you stuck in (rank) ? If it's still the case though ;).
What's your ign on steam ? I would like to see your replays :) just to understand neutral and blockstrings more :)
It's just Jtails!
Love the video but what is the song in the background???
hi can you please make a video on how to train Blocking using training mode? appreciate u still great videos
Yeah I have the same problem , I cant get to pink . Im stuck at yellow and orange , after I get to orange I always rank down back to yellow :/ But well its my first tag or anime fighter ( I only played 1 vs 1 fighters )
*Rivals of Aether intensifies*
I tell you how to move up in the ranks, when you encounter a lag switcher quit, when you encounter someone exploiting the game quit. Don't give your points to cheaters. If you play ranked matches then you already know the majority of the community is lag switchers.
depends what rank you're at, also what console but yeah this is still a huge problem and it sucks that Arcsys still does nothing about it. terrible.
Jtails !!!!!! Brooooooo what’s up!!!
I know the exact distance...
*awkward pause*
....Where it'll just miss
I'm an awkward person, what can I say?
What’s that song in the background? I wanna say it’s from the Scott Pilgrim game? Maybe Mega Man?
myevili no. Its from Rivals Of Aether it’s on Steam and i think Xbox1. The game itself is like Smash bros ( Meele) . Highly recommended.
close! Flashygoodness has a similar style to Anamanagucci. but yeah it's from Rivals of Aether which is also on PC, and the song itself is from an original game called Tower of Heaven.
I suck royal ass at fighting games, but I'm enjoying this one. I suppose practice makes perfect?
Just for the sake of knowing, it looks like adult gohans down medium has a low priority. My question is does it get beaten by a lot of other down mediums?
No, they would clash if done at the same time. but if another down medium hits it before the hitbox comes out then it loses. if another down medium hits it after this hitbox finishes then you get punished also.
Thx for this video
Good video but i wouldn't put much of a stress on climbing ranks. A lot of people measure their skill by rank and i just find it stupid.
true, either way I want a way for people to feel a want to improve. most new players use rank as their metric instead of offline tournaments.
