Not at any wedding I went to. (I'm in my 70's so I was there). Perish is the word that more than applies To the hope in my heart each time I realize That I am not gonna be the one to share your dreams That I am not gonna be the one to share your schemes That I am not gonna be the one to share what seems to be The life that you could cherish as much as I do yours Those are not wedding song lyrics.
@@justwondering5651 Yep. Absolutely beautiful song, but NOT wedding lyrics. But then there are always those people who don't pay attention to the words--like everyone who decided "Every Breath You Take" by the Police was a good wedding song, romantic and not stalker-ish at all. LOL
@@xAce99x I never said it was better. When we talk about the Association all is good. "Never My Love" peaked at #2 in this country. "Windy" went to number 1. That's all I was getting at.
Turned 70 this year too. This takes me back to my carefree time. This also although unrealistic gave hope of lasting love and revives my early years feeling of a bright future something missing in a lot of today’s music.
I just loved this song. Jr High days. I actually have the 45 (single) of it. I think "Cherish" was their biggest hit, but the others named below are all very good.
Yes. Old people thought all of our music was “noise” and FM wouldn’t help it sound any better. Hate to say it, but there has been so much put out over the last 20 years that I consider “noise” and wish was relegated to AM. I turned to East Asian music I do not understand because I got fed up.
You are correct sir! In fact, according to BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.), which tracks such data, “Never My Love” was the second-most played song on American radio and television during the 20th century. It trailed only the iconic “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’” by the Righteous Brothers. So while it didn’t claim the absolute top spot, it certainly left an indelible mark on the airwaves and hearts of listeners!
This is wonderful. A few years after this version The Fifth Dimension released their cover of it, also a wonderful take featuring the marvelously talented Marilyn McCoo.
Absolutely love this record. If you want something mellow have you done The Cowsills The Rain, The Park And Other Things yet?I don't think you'll be disappointed if you play it.
They the (Association) are one of the reasons why I consider the music of the 60's as the greatest decade in Rock & Roll history. Their harmonies are beautifully Insync. Priceless!
Unusual to have such perfectly blended harmonies and not be siblings like the Beach Boys or Bee Gees or from the same town like the Beatles. They are so talented!
the first time I heard this song it was a remake/cover done by another band....I heard it on the show Son's of Anarchy....and I LOVED IT!! Hearing the original version...I love it even more. Such a beautiful song.
They came to my high school for a concert in 1965 - very talented - every song they switched their instruments - so they could play everything including drums! Wonderful voices - great concert! Thanks for the memories!
I used to travel to Southern California with my dad for business. His favorite radio station in L.A was K-Earth 101. This station would play nothing but oldies. I heard songs like this quite often.
To me, this was one of the early roller rink classics! Hold on tight, mama! "Windy", is another similarly poppy one, and for a harder view, my favorite, "Along Comes Mary".
i remember they used to play this a lot on the radio,,,,,it was good then and still good now,,,,nice choice,,,,,music has and always will unite us all,,,,,
This song should be every married couples Wedding Anniversary song. I was thinking the same thing as Amber said "so sweet" even as I`ve heard this so many times as I`m 67 years old and never married but can so much appreciate the sentiments. Peace and brother love to you and all.
I loved and still love... EVERY Hit song these guys had back then! I think "Along Comes Mary" might be my favourite, because of the "time" it came out and the memories it still brings me!
I was an 11-year-old kid watching the Ed Sullivan show in 1968 when these guys came on and sang this number. It mesmerized me and I fell in love with music at that moment.
One of my favorite bands I have seen twice in concerr. They are known for their 6-part harmonies. My favorite song is "Requiem for the Masses. Very unique song. Santa
Song came out when I was in high school. It had a totally different tone to it compared to the other top 10 songs being played on the AM radio at the time. The girls loved the song for sure.
Cool song and band. My father mentioned to me that he went to one of their concerts in either 1966 or '67 in Palo Alto. He would've been 16 almost 17 at the time. It's so cool to hear music history from a parent.
"Requiem For The Masses" is one of the great antiwar songs; I loved it as a kid before I ever figured out the metaphor. To your list, I'll add "Everything That Touches You". And for a quirky, different side of The Association, I strongly suggest "Wasn't It A Bit Like Now (Parallel '23)".
This is the song I wish I had thought of for my wedding dance with my wife. What a great song expressing how you cannot imaging a life were you would not love that special someone. We danced to "Could I Have This Dance" by Ann Murray, also a great song, if you haven't reacted to it you should.
I remember this song as an 8 year old in day camp in the summer of 1967, when my counselor would listen to the great radio stations, such as WMCA and WABC in New York City, on his transistor radio. And when this song came on, all the girl counselors would gather round and swoon to this song. Thank you Amber and Jay for this great reaction.
The Association had amazing harmonies. Never My Love and Cherish were huge wedding and prom songs. My favorites are their faster paced Windy, Along Comes Mary and a deep cut called Reputation.
I love the organ near the end. One of my most lovely memories is dozing in a hammock on a lazy warm mid summer day with a gentle breeze and this song on in the background. Quiet happy contentment.
A few years ago, I bought a book written about The Association. Much to my great surprise, I found a friend of mine was interviewed in the book. My friend had been a part of the California folk music scene in the late 50's/early 60's. Ted Bluechel Jr., drummer/guitarist for The Association, had been a part of my friend's folk group.
I remember this as a little kid. It's so nostalgic. Another song from this time that gives me the same vibe is This Guy's In Love With You by Herb Alpert (the "A" in A&M records). Try it if you haven't already.
When I think of sunshine pop I think of Windy. When I think of this song, I think of one of the most beautiful love songs. Cherish is another very beautiful one.
I first heard this song from the Outlander series. Main character was being tortured and she was having flash forward dreams of her husband in a different era of time.
The Association had such beautiful harmonies and there songs are loving, happy and sweet! Always enjoyable! Love them! All their songs are great in my opinion! Try Cherish and also Windy❤
To me at 72 this is by far such a fantastic song of LOVE for your spouse - Never gonna leave you baby! That's the WRECKING CREW musicians playing the background as they did for all the GROUPS back in the day!
Jay and Amber, I love your channel. An awesome remake of this song was made by country singer Vern Gosdin. He was known as the Voice. Many hits of his. Til The End, Chiseled In Stone, Yesterday's Gone, Today My World Slipped Away. Pure country at its finest.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I've always loved this song. Thanks for doing this one. Bring back some wonderful memories and sad ones
Another color from the pallet of music that was part of my childhood. I was 4 when this came out and it mixed in with all the other music I heard then and was part of my musical world then.
My stepdad was the main lead singer on this one and throughout the years would always dedicate it to my mom except for one time when he dedicated it to my wife on a cruise ship we were on during a performance. Blew her away!

Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Cherish", "Windy" and "Along Comes Mary" !!! (Windy and Along Comes Mary are upbeat!)
I totally second that emotion!
Those are indeed the other 3! :D
Don't forget Everything That Touches You, Along Comes Mary, Time For Livin'...
Spot on!

ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONG'S OF ALL TIME
you are correct!
Agree!
Absolutely. The writer understood the doubts and fears that often come with new love, and this is one of the most beautiful reassurances in music.
I love this song
This was light years ahead of anything put out today
The Association was a very political group and sang a beautiful haunting song “Requiem for the Masses”. Very much worth a listen.
Their song "Cherish" was one of the top wedding songs of the 1960s and 70s.
Not at any wedding I went to. (I'm in my 70's so I was there).
Perish is the word that more than applies
To the hope in my heart each time I realize
That I am not gonna be the one to share your dreams
That I am not gonna be the one to share your schemes

According to those who keep track of this sort of thing, Never My Love was the most played radio song ever.
The Association is another one of those underappreciated groups with superb harmonies & incredible lyrics.
I think they just got drowned out by even better lyrical ballad groups of the time, but they seem to be experiencing some overdue recognition at last
This band had great harmonies, and a few hits in the 60's. This however was their signature hit.
May we suggest "Windy"? Probably the Association's biggest hit.
My brother's go to song when he played the Saxophone was Windy. I can never hear that song without thinking of him learning to play it.
No was that better than Never My Love and Cherish
that is my fav but Never My Love was the second most played song on the airways in the 20th century.....only behind You Lost That Loving Feeling.....
@@xAce99x I never said it was better. When we talk about the Association all is good. "Never My Love" peaked at #2 in this country. "Windy" went to number 1. That's all I was getting at.
that was my earliest memory of favorite song back when it first came out (born in 1961). That, and "Downtown" by Petula Clark.
Everything That Touches You.
"Cherish" is one of their most beautiful, timeless songs ever. I hope you give it a listen.
Amber will LOVE Cherish…
I will cherish love.
Cherish is my fav! Those harmonies are incredible.
Never my love and cherish are my two favourite songs from this great sixties group...so it's great to hear this again.
Yes she will and J too.
She will!!! 🥰🇺🇸
The association is one of my favorite groups
Definitely one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Cherish is the one you need to check out next!
Music was about love. I miss music that makes me happy.
Just turned 70, I use to play this song over and over again in the late 60s. Takes me back to more simple times. 🤗🤗🤗
Turned 70 this year too. This takes me back to my carefree time. This also although unrealistic gave hope of lasting love and revives my early years feeling of a bright future something missing in a lot of today’s music.
A time that will never be seeing again. However, part of the soundtrack to our lives. We can be thankful for that.
Yes, and Cherish for me, as well. 😊
it absolutely IS the music of our lives❤
73 here, I so get it and glad they do too.
Oh yes, played over and over
In the 70s and 80s, every high school and college glee club and show choir had 3 or 4 Association tunes in the bag.
I just loved this song. Jr High days. I actually have the 45 (single) of it. I think "Cherish" was their biggest hit, but the others named below are all very good.
This is exactly the type of music heard on A M radio back in the day 👍
Yep!
The Association was unusual, probably the best soft pop group of the era. Their melodies and lyrics were a cut above other similar groups.
Yes. Old people thought all of our music was “noise” and FM wouldn’t help it sound any better. Hate to say it, but there has been so much put out over the last 20 years that I consider “noise” and wish was relegated to AM. I turned to East Asian music I do not understand because I got fed up.
“Dating” music.
"Back in the day" < I HATE that Unoriginal Simplistic Non-Specific Ghetto expression.
Their "live" version is on RUclips ..... and it is so beautiful to watch them harmonise
Harmonies are unbelievable!!!!!
All of their songs are so beautifully harmonious 🥰🥰
As a 4 year old. I remember hearing on the radicand I loved their music. hearing this brings back such warn feelings.
One of the most played songs in radio history.
Yes, a 60s song that was played throughout the 70s and early 80s.
@@chrisoakley5830 And well into the 1990s, as well.

Yes, you guys are finally back to The Association and doing one of their best songs. The next one you nedd to react to needs to be Cherish
This is a beautiful classic single. This song was used in an episode of the series Outlander.
The lovely vocals, the backup vocals, the sweet keyboards, totally romantic without being gooshy.
I was in a band that worked opposite them in 1976. They were just as good live.
Absolutely love this record. If you want something mellow have you done The Cowsills The Rain, The Park And Other Things yet?I don't think you'll be disappointed if you play it.
I think of their song Windy as sunshine pop. To me this is truly one of the most beautiful love songs along with Cherish

In 1973 this song was picked by my husband for our first dance at our wedding. It was perfect.
The 1960's songs, absolutely drenched in romance.

Their song "Windy" needs to be your next reaction from them. It's upbeat, bouncy and simply a great song.
Great memories,loved the Association!

One of the most beautiful songs to come out of our generation.
This and Windy are my two favorite songs by The Association, glad you guys got a chance to hear one of them!

- Neil Sedaka "Calendar Girl"
- The Union Gap "Young Girl"
Very nice! This is in my playlist too.

Much later in the day we were in another part of the park and we were lucky enough to catch them play again. Saw them twice in one day and never again.
I'm glad you guys, especially Amber, found this group. I'll pile on the suggestions for Cherish.
