I can remember watching this band perform live on TV. The year was 1966, and this was one of the very great songs to come out of this decade.

Truly a beautiful song. Windy and Never my Love are very good also
Great voices, harmonies .I'm.listening to music over 60 yrs never seen 5 singers harmonizing. A short lived but a very good group.

The Association had about five major hits from 1966 through 1969. I lived this history. Cherish, Windy, Along Comes Mary, Goodbye Columbus, Never My Love .I was only sorry they didn't have more hits, they were great singers. Cherish and Never My Love are like wedding songs.

This song is about a guy who realizes that even though he "cherishes" someone, they are NOT ever going to cherish him. It's a sad lament being sung by a man who knows that the woman he's in love with is NEVER going to love HIM. It's about knowing that something you desire, the love of this woman, is NOT ever going to happen. The lyrics are about realizing that this dream will ALWAYS be just a dream. He says that he knows that the words do not exist that can persuade this woman to love him. The lyrics are beautifully written, but they make me sad. I identify with how it feels to know that something you want and need, like being loved by someone you "cherish", will always be out of your reach.

I have a soft spot for this era of colorful 60's pop. Sometimes refereed to as "Sunshine Pop." It's characterized by elements such as sophisticated chord progressions, lush harmony vocals and beautiful and delicate string arrangements. The Association was definitely a part of that sub-genre, as well as groups like Spanky and Our Gang, The Turtles, and The Fifth Dimension. Great era in music!

When you made your comment at the end, it made me think of this recommendation for you! I don't recall if I've mentioned this movie before, but here goes anyway! If you want to watch a movie that has to do with teenage and adolescent angst, insecurity and all those other things, I suggest you watch American Graffiti which was filmed in 1973, but the movie takes place in 1962 with a bunch of great music from that era! It is a pretty interesting story! Bye again!

Have all this bands music. There's another song that might interest you called ' Come Saturday Morning ' by The Sandpipers. It was the theme song for the movie ' The Sterile Cuckoo ' that came out '68. Both are good. This was one of Liza Minellie's early movies she was in.
