Fluorescence in the deep-sea squid Histioteuthis: The case of the green-eyed squid

  • Scientists at MBARI recently deployed blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) on our remotely operated submersibles to observe fluorescence in deep-sea animals and investigate the ecological roles of light in the deep sea. When we shined blue LEDs on the strawberry squid, Histioteuthis, we were surprised by an impressive light show. This squid has one normal-sized eye, and one extraordinarily large eye, which was brightly fluorescent, indicating the presence of a blue-absorbing fluorescent pigment. The fluorescent pigment most likely aids in capturing prey by breaking their camouflage. Many organisms have fluorescent structures, but we are still exploring what the natural functions of these fluorescent pigments are.

You'll be surprised there are many other thousands of similar content on RUclips, but the logarithms will never bring them to your suggestions. Just type the search terms you wish to see, and you will get unlimited content.

I really don't understand why this channel does not have more views and subs. It's fascinating and showing us (almost every time) new creatures on our planet!
People misuse and bastardize this word but this channel is genuinely amazing.
Along with awe inspiring. looking forward for more ^_^

For some reason I became unsubscribed; others may have been affected in one way or another. Currently, as of this moment, RUclips may have once again changed its format.
Many have different interests - cat videos for some then there are videos like this.

Caspar Abelmann It *would* give the same effect. A blacklight is just a shorter
wavelength version of the blue light, but we use blue because it travels
      farther underwater.
