0.5 x FTW. New subscriber: Fantastic tips! Some good reminders in there and a couple I hadn’t thought of. Throughout 2023 I transitioned away from my dslr to mobile photography and it rejuvenated my love for the hobby. Perhaps it's the synergy of combining sport with hobby that has given both interests a refreshment.
Wow. I’ve seen both episodes now. I have always taken photos riding, but after watching this I went out riding and took some amazing pics and also enjoyed adjusting/editing them afterwards. Thanks, buddy, my Strava is already looking so much better!
Great stuff… Like the series. I’ve been exploring more action photos while riding and video as well. All of this is great inspiration. Curious what mount, how you hold it and what apps you use (maybe it was covered in part 1… I’ll go watch). I just got the iPhone 15 Pro Max for video and curious to explore more camera apps for it to work like more like my DSLRs. I’ve used Lightroom Camera, but I wonder if there are apps with better control, ease of use and features. I will be using my Small Rig Brandon Li video rig on my iPhone and I think the cage and a single side grip with the remote shutter button will be clutch for cycling photos. Nice firm grasp of the camera and frame protection.
0.5 FTW: Great tips! Loved checking the places you have been. There is a pic that seems to be the descent at Formentor (Mallorca), is it? what an amazing spot. Thanks for the content
Glad it was helpful man. That's often the hardest one to get right, but aside from good light I think it's the single quickest way to improve the look of your photos.
0.5xFTW Im so glad the second part is out! always benefitting so much from this series! Keep it going Tristan, superb work you got! and I am waiting for the 3rd one already!
0.5x FTW, this video is quality…it’s just what I’ve been waiting for. Reagan ding the iPhone which model are you using and what setting do you have on for the horizontal line tracking during the descending shots. Thanks so much Tristan.…quality as always.
Thanks mate! I use an iPhone 13 Pro and turn the grid on in the camera settings. I show how to do this in part 1 of this video series if you'd like to see more.
Tip seven is great. One of the most important things to do directly after transferring images from the camera is to mercilessly delete as much as possible.
0.5x FTW watching this during a long endurance session on the trainer. I particularly enjoyed the comments about lens choice since I tended to avoid the 0.5 lens because I was afraid of distorting subjects into lovecraftian horror shapes
tips also hold true for all photography, not just phone camera on bikes and gave me some ideas for my biggest challenge photographing bike races in harsh Australian sunlight. Might have to take some with my phone to get critiqued 0.5x FTW
0.5 x ftw. Learnt lots so far. I'm a bit late to the series. I was wondering how you held your phone when taking photos as I feel I'm going to drop it anytime, but the volume button tip.. awesome.. 😊. Will send some photos for your comp. I have always been a sunset/sunrise fan. Lots more sunrises these days. Anyway, love the videos as always...
Awesome vid!! Great content as usual 💪 Thanks for the superb work. Still have a question. Which format do you recommend when cropping the photos? Usually I'm going to use 3:2
For me it depends on the use. 3:2 for my website, 4:3 for Strava, 4:5 vertical for Instagram posts, 9:16 vertical for Instagram stories and reel cover photos. I never post to Instagram in landscape format, only vertical to take up as much screen real estate as possible. Hope that helps 🙏🏼
0.5x FTW, loved this. The live photo long exposure hack is really interesting. I'd love to know if you use any grip on your phone cover for easier handling when riding. I'm always terrified of dropping my phone on the move!
Thanks Andrew. I don't use any grip or phone cover, but i'd recommend one if it doesn't get in the way. Part of why I don't use one is because it makes getting the phone out and putting it away more difficult, which is often when the dropping part happens. It's taken plenty of practice but i've found having the dexterity to handle the phone by itself means I can operate it the most quickly and easily. Having said that, i'll no doubt drop it one day and wish I had a cover, so feel free to take this with a pinch of salt!
Have to say, the last video really upped my game and thought me some valuable info. RUclips can be full of people offering the same pointless copy/paste advice just to farm views, and this video is certainly NOT one of those. Thank you for the tips!
Tristan, thanks for the new video notice. Great Part 2 with 8 improvement points. My takeaway is that nothing can improve a bad picture but post editing can make a good picture standout. You gave very useful descriptions of ways to post edit to make the picture pop and capture the eye's attention. btw, in part 2 you talk about distracted background. One small point on your video in 4:20 and 5:44 the corner of the picture frame peeked out behind your right ear. Minor details but could be better. Like you said, learn from you bad video/pictures. I will post this comment in Part 2 also so you will get double benefits. Still waiting for the how do you hold the phone while riding video. Also will be submitting my 3 cycling pictures before the April closing date. If you have read my comments to here 0.5XFTW to you!
0.5x FTW.. awesome sharing and tips. I just a bit worry dropping the phone when riding and shooting in the same time. need more practice with hands off moment first~!
Great video!! How are you keeping the lens clean or cleaning it before you capture? seems like every time I pull out my phone the lens are dirty and impossible to clean as everything on me is sweaty.
This is a super tricky one. I usually wipe it on whatever part of my bibs is least salty. In summer it’s definitely not easy. Sometimes I lick the lens too, then wipe it. It’s a constant battle, that’s for sure.
Thanks man. I don’t use anything but I do recommend something like that if you’re nervous. Or just practice lots while in non-sketchy situations so you can used to it.
0.5x FTW this cycling (and beyond) channel has quickly become a top favorite!
0.5 x FTW. you are awesome! Thanks for taking the time!
0.5 x FTW.

0.5 FTW - thanks Tristan, worth the wait! Very interesting and helpful, not just for cycling photography. Looking forward to Pt 3
Thanks so much Declan! 🙏🏼
Thx for the great video. Have you any advice for how to hold the phone while riding the bike? Any special cases you can recommend? Hello from Germany
0.5x FTW. I'm really enjoying this series!
Wow. I’ve seen both episodes now. I have always taken photos riding, but after watching this I went out riding and took some amazing pics and also enjoyed adjusting/editing them afterwards. Thanks, buddy, my Strava is already looking so much better!

Took a while but we got there eventually 😆
Great video! Easy to understand and well structured. Amazing what you can get out of a phone nowadays!
Many-many thanks to you for this video! I really like the point, about simplicity
Glad it was helpful man. That's often the hardest one to get right, but aside from good light I think it's the single quickest way to improve the look of your photos.

0.5x FTW - great tips! Will try them out on tomorrows sunrise ride 🤟

Glad to hear Stephan! 🙌🏼
0.5x FTW. Love the content and keep up the great content!
I am terrible at taking photos even more so while on a bike... Might have rewatch this series once part 3 is posted.
0.5x FTW Some great tips for general photography. The iPhone is my go to camera these days, the D850 only comes out for specific tasks.
Same. I use my R5 for work and that’s about it. Love the iPhone.

It’s a 3D printed mount by a designer called Jochem Hinloopen. He’s on Instagram at @hinloopen.design
Legend thanks
