I am so used to it that most other games simply feel worse in terms of handling. Gameplay and design is also one of the best I've ever seen. This is one of my favorite pc games. :)

The feel of street racing, the cool ost musics, the weird modifications but actually looks cool (don't lie, we all thought it actually looks cool), and the wall-riding because who needs brake, to DrIfT?
Underground 2, Most Wanted, Carbon, and even Midnight Club 3. Those are the racing games I grew up with and will forever cherish. Underground 2 especially was just special vibes
This is still my favorite need for speed hands down. It had a great feel to it...just a special vibe for a racing game with the hidden shops too with music...even the weights of the cars felt perfect. I'd love if they could remaster this and bring it to 4k

i used to play this game in free roam on xbox with a wheel, gear shift and pedal i got for christmas. i spent hours stopping at red lights, stop signs, going the speed limit. days.

Oh man, I spent so many hours on that game, just driving around, enjoying the great rock songs... I literally made up a life in this game, looked for places on the map to be my house, the children schools, even the mother's yoga club haha. The soundtrack is the best part though, absolutely legendary, it definitely shaped my music taste. I'm a girl btw, I feel like not many girls were playing this.
Ngl, this game is my childhood, I remember when I used to play it on my PS2 when I was a kid, I just love the music theme in the main menu, I completely customize to maxed out my car and get maximum stars, I'm so in love with Skyline R34 at that time when I got it. and at first time playing when I drive Rachel's 350z, I don't take it to her garage, I drive it and cruise around the city while doing some races. This is the only game that made me into cars, especially japanese cars. Man, what a great memories..
Same here - I never got to the point of picking out houses and stuff but i definitely came up with my own narrative and let my imagination loose - the things the mind of a 10 year old can come up with to entertain themselves is incredible. Wish i could go back for a day!

I've always hated how underground 2 had the most boring endgame, literally just a long ass race with a boss who does nothing the entire game and isn't even that hard in his own race. If anything, i feel this is one of the areas where the first game managed to outshine it in.

@@HurricaneGaming509 It's not the story I'm worried about. The final boss is just way too easy. Back when I was ONLY 9 I was still an ENTIRE minute ahead of the boss when I raced him.
Every time I think of the new racing games that make every last little design a microtransaction - I think of this game that gave you loads of customization for free.

@@Otherface Imo even Underground 2 had it's fair of troubles, it forced you to mess up your own car by installing hideous bodykits just to unlock a certain area or race.
@@Gideon13397 the first 2 bodykits always looks clean and nice, the other 2 is just pure rice, all bodykits has same rating anyway

well to be fair the whole story of this game is so forgetable even compared to past games and to next sequels,which is a really a sad thing because the real motivation to make anything is because the game itself is fun,but anything else is kind shit in near endgame like you have to rice you car,dont have a motivation,and the muthaphukkin catch-up
It's not that bad at all. Yes final boss is weak and sad they didn't make him more important. But I passed this game again after few years with understanding story and this made me happy.
No DLC's, no smartphones, no toxic social media.
Only a console, a 14" TV and enjoy the best childhood era ever.
I played it so many times and I swear to god I didn't remember it had an antagonist. In that aspect, NFSMW is much more developed. And after you finish it you can do the challenges and police pursuits still, so there's stuff to do. In any case, I hold NFSU2 dear and it is one of the best NFS that ever came out.

Studio change, BlackBox made the classic need for speeds, Ghost games shat all over them and Criterion honestly did a pretty decent job when they made Burnout Fairhaven
Rivals is one of my favorite NFS. Big, beautiful open world setting with real time weather changing. Way better than underground series which is nighttime forever. It has more variety of gameplay too. I recently went back and installed Underground 1-2 and found that they are a bit outdated in terms of graphics and gameplay. Sure they looked great when I was a kid but not so much now. You probably have a nostalgia goggle on when you compare old games to new ones. Take it off and maybe you can enjoy modern games better.
Don’t hate on Rivals, that’s a very good NFS. Agree with rest of the statement though, hasn’t been a good NFS since. Heats fun but ain’t nothing special. Need a REAL underground 3 made by black box and they’ll get my preorder day one
Because game companies are now all about money and micro-transactions, back in 2000s it was about bringing a beautiful experience to a player.
Also when talking about PC requirements, game companies intentionally make games for powerful graphics cards whose prices are inflated due to crypto miners. Let that sink in.

Watching this video makes Me feel nostalgic. Me ( around 5 or 6 ) and my over 20 years old brother spent tons of hours on Underground 2. it was the one of the earliest memories of me playing games. i remember myself getting scolded for spending all the things he collected on a single car and made it all green to impress my friends. ❤ at the time, the graphics looked so realistic and we loved it so much. current days, i cant feel those same old feeling again from games. love ur video man

This is one of my favorite games ever!!! Unlike the majority of modern games, it had a soul. The city and the game design still look great. It would be fantastic if they decided to create a remake with the same atmosphere but just more advanced graphics!

@@Viper_Darkstorm The rubberbanding was kinda off in the last race, the engine probably couldn't handle the rubberbanding for race that long. Even on hard it was pretty easy.
I think that on older PCs rubberbanding and other shit that AI makes wasn't that strong than it is on today computers.
@@Viper_Darkstorm naw it was just on my PS2 version. For this game you could use the pit move and spin the other racers around.
@@realmtl6829 yeah, you could push them on the wall and they would get stuck, helpful when doing outrun, but if you touch a wall they get unstuck and start chase you like crazy. Also you could slide on a wall in any type of a corner and it would not cost you that much speed than hitting a wall.

without RTX still looks super awesome, the work behind it to make it look so reflective, the half baked lights and gloss maps, the fight the developers had with the limitations of the old days is a necessity for our progress, and it brought us what we have today. limitations --> struggle --> solutions --> progression --> next limitations

incase anyone is wondering, they used 'checkerboard' carbon fiber aka plain weave.
People are always trying to make this game better with texture mods and everything and asking for a remake of this game but let's get real, no remake will give us the REAL nostalgia feel of this "unperfect" game. The games that had an impact on our childhoods will never beat newer games with better graphics, EVER.

Seriously though, Underground 2 is an amazing game with a very poor endgame. Still love the game a lot though.
Underground 2: nnovative racing game that is far superior to it's predecessor in terms of sandbox, city, music, car list and cover girl, and it serves as the standard for open world racing games to this day.
Also underground 2: has the shxttiest and sorriest excuse of a final boss
