One of the most beautiful tracks any artist ever recorded. Welch and Walsh play with remarkable empathy, skill, and sublimity. They hear one another like no musicians since the Beatles. These two are the great ones of our era.
So powerful. I keep hearing the best of Chris Whitley. The bone laughter. The eyes screaming. I'm 73 and this video scares the shit out of me. Thank you.
This album was given to me for my birthday in late September 2001. 9/11 was barely two weeks old. I had seen the Pentagon burning first hand--missed seeing the plane itself by less than ten seconds. And it all fucked me up so badly that I used to just drive the country roads of Northern Virginia for hours, aimlessly, listening to this album--trying to make sense of the unfathomable tragedy I had witnessed. Gilian's haunting voice and David's dissonant guitar helped me cope somehow.
lucas2718 I was near the Pentagon that morning also, and also spent many hours driving aimlessly through Northern Virginia listening to music trying to come to grips with what happened.
Thank you for looking and leaving a comment. The footage was never su[pposed to be a statement about the song or vice versa. I love the song and just wanted some interesting footage that kind of went with the mood of the song not the words. It's more about sharing the song and I thought it better to have something moving rather than staring at an album cover. The option is always there to look away and enjoy the music alone if the footage offends any. Cheers, Phil.
you've gotten bad comments,,,on the video,,,It made a 46 year old man cry hard,,,because it's true,,,,,,,,,THE HARD,,,COLD,,,TRUTH,,,about life............... & time is the revelator.......absolutly great song also.....god bless you all !!!!!!!so much....
Phil! I cant tell you how awesome to find another video. I love what you did with Micah's music. You've got excellent taste in music my fellow earthling.
No just joking i quit all that years ago .But i cant stop listening to this song .if i hear it once i listen to it 30 or 40 times a week i does somthing to me i love it .
Watching That little girl (trying) walking tore my heart out...so beautiful...so helpless...so trying...so brave...is it/was it just me? I’m still kinda crying... Wonder where she is, and how she is...I hope GOD friggin blesses her...
I love this track, found this video. My son has CP and I remember him struggling in a K Walker when they thought he may be able to one day walk. This song/ video and my memories just had be welling up
I take care of a man who had polio. He's 80 now. I look at the photograph of him in the 1930s with that old house shrubbery backdrop, his sister next to him in her white dress, and he's standing. He doesn't stand now, and his care is nearly hospice. It wears me down but this video helps remind me why I do it. Thanks.
@Kaspiannlago Thanks for your kind words. Unfortunately I'm not able to give much detail, I pretty sure this is an amalgam of about 3 sets of footage that I downloaded from a public archive. I'm sure one was on old age and one of the others on child poverty. Sorry for being so vague as it was over 2 years ago. Phil
like a witches sabbath. she turns to face the, north wind, harsh, the east wind seductive, funny it comes from the south, the south wind a seranade, the west wind, fowlist of all. Lest i be my brothers keeper, ireland was an isaylum, and is to this day.

@ Dafreak4ever- What is "allot?" you can't expect anyone to take your comment seriously when you obviously lack even a rudimentary grasp of the English language

There was no plane. Our government has and still is really fucking with us. I was in CT. I lost a friend in the tower. It sucked and still does.
no planes bud
Thanks Gillian, for bringing the past back to haunt our dreams.
This track is absolutely sublime. So beautiful can't stop playing it. Thank you so much for sharing.
Lee and the most depressing accompanying film clips. I’m a masochist. I love it.
You nailed it, buddy. The footage transported me to my childhood in the 50's so thoroughly it was creepy. You are a fine artist.
The Oscar's brought me here. Wow! I have been seriously missing out! Glad I found you, wonderful music! ❤
SUBLIME.
I know I am not worthy.
and I view all around me and

Thank You, Phil Bebbington. simply marvelous.
I can't stop listening to the song or watching the video. It touches something
in a deep way. Don't need to over- intellectualize....
This is my favourite song by a female artist. This is now my favourite song with film. Well done, it's better than excellent.
I was born in ‘51 and time is IS the revelator! This footage fits perfectly
Authentic is what comes to mind when I hear this remarkable talent.
One of the most beautiful and compelling songs ever written and performed.

Awesome song, very beautiful
i cry too - this song lets the inner sadness float out
touching clip to a great song....thanks!
Nice video. Makes you think. As Gillian always does with her music.
Revelator -- one that reveals; especially: one that reveals the will of God.
JivinJane : Thank you, I just looked up the same. Always wondered what "revelator" meant!
"Revelator: reveals the will of God."

2 seconds in and I started to cry! If there is a god why do children have to suffer ! Wish there was a vedio for that the way it goes!
Love this song. Interesting video.
Thank you, that's very kind and appreciated.
Phil

She's good with the abstract stuff too.
Best song ever

who could dislike Gillian Welch
Well Done Phil!
Cheers, Chris
Coolest video.
For some reason, this really made me choke up. Human beings are very fragile, I guess.

Queen of fakes and Imitators
Times the revelator.
What’s the video?
Short film about polio? The little girl had the leg braces on...
I think those poor little kids have polio
Not enough people know this song. Shame
Darling, remember when you come to me
I'm the pretender and I, what I'm supposed to be
But who could know if I'm a traitor
Time's the Revelator
They caught the Katy and left me a mule to ride
The Fortune Lady came along, she walked beside
But every word seemed to date her
Time's the Revelator, the Revelator
Up in the morning, up and on the ride
Drive into Corning and all the spindles whine
And every day is getting straighter
Time's the Revelator, the Revelator
Leaving the valley, fucking out of sight
I'll go back to Cali where I can sleep out every night
And watch the waves and move the fader
Time's the Revelator, the Revelator
Queen of the fakes and imitators
Time's the Revelator
and repudiate after the great flood.

proponents of hate. lmfao
hard to watch hard not to
Is there a version of this song without the F word in it? It kind of ruined the song for me.
