My father was a state trooper for a long time and I can remember long drives from school/home to different barracks and stations throughout the state, listening to sports radio 66 WFAN. This brings back some pretty emotional and special memories. Their voices over police radio chatter, good talks with my dad, scoldings, life lectures, and advice all while listening to these two individuals iconic voices. Mike and the Mad dog was a one of a kind show during a one of a kind time period for me. Thanks guys...

feel the same way. from Philly burbs. remember growing up in the 90s and my dad listening to philly sports radio and WFAN every ride to sports, games, wherever we were going. still remember listening to sterling and michael K too. funny, because we're not even yankees fans. but back in the day you only got local radio stations. very nostalgic. always think of my dad when I hear the mad dog or mike

Damn Mike. You know radio. You should have let Chris keep talking. It was great radio.....Chris was providing the real passion that all the listeners needed to hear. Just wish you would have let him speak a little longer. None the less it was an emotional call. I'll never ever forget this show.

+lethrneck4 Are you kidding me? Mike is a great listen and he has great guests. His spots with Ira Winderman on basketball and Troy Aikman on football are fantastic. Even his spot with Eli Manning is good. Is he longwinded and condescending to callers sometimes? Yes but that's what makes Mike who he is and he is still number #1 without Maddog.

I wish they could've stayed together but I guess all good things come to an end. First off, Thank you for responding on 9/11. People like you should be lauded for responding on that fateful day.
As for Mike and the Mad Dog, it looks like these two had excellent chemistry and defined a generation of sports talk radio in between the columnist era through the 80’s, and more recent years where websites and blogs have grown.
And when you think about it, they had quite a period of New York sports to react to:
      Between 1989 and 2008:
The Yankees won four World Series and made it to six of them from 1996-2003 (also lost an ALCS in 2004).
The Mets made a World Series in 2000 (also a couple NLCS in 99 and 06)
The Knicks made two NBA finals in 94 and 99.
The Giants made three Super Bowls and won two of them in 1990 and 2007 (2000 being the loss).
The Rangers in the NHL even won a Stanley Cup final in 1994
Not as familiar with college basketball history, but if I’m not mistaken didn’t Syracuse win a final four in 03 as well?
That’s quite an era for New York sports, and they were on the air together through all of it.
From a Seattleite, I gotta say, these two might be the best sports talk duo. It’s a shame I didn’t discover these two until several years after they moved on.

I don’t think so.. based on the ESPN special Mike and the Mad Dog, I know now it was Mikes attitude that made it miserable for Mad dog.. so many ups but there was a ton of downs too! The whole last year you could see and hear the tension between the two... they didn’t want to be around each other.
They also didn’t talk for 2 solid months or look at each other and they were right next to each other on air. Mike was toxic.. it’s good that Mad Dog left..

Together Mike and Chris were the best sports talk team. There knowledge and opinions were entertaining and enlightening. You don't have many true sports talk shows anymore it's most a team or duo yelling back and forth over a two minute hot topic with each coming up with a catch phrase to top the other. Mike and the Maddog was never a generic sports talk show. i wish these two were back together.

There is something to them putting Sirius/XM in new cars, but no one pulls a rating on satellite radio. No One!!
The broadcasters who go to satellite get great financial deals, but they lose 80-90% of their audience. Just look at Stern: great financial move but he has less than 1/10th the audience he once had.
