Hey, Rickey. I started rolling my cigars after watching all your videos years ago. I'm still rolling, using your methods and techniques, benefiting from your wisdom. Thank you.
WOW!!! A very nice video. Lots of info, and great to watch your skill! I have not started making cigars yet. But I know I will. I learned so much from your video. I will be watching this a bunch more times. I like how you stack your filler. I have never seen it done like that..... very nice, and controlled. Thank you so much for showing your skill and nice and slow so we can really see it. You have me stoked to make my own now... but I still want to watch more so I have it down when I start... Thanks again! I really loved your video...
used this as a guide to roll my first ever cigar today, works like a dream, i didn't have any pectin to hand though so i used some flour and water which seemed to work pretty well too
I know several of my friends are planning to start growing their own tobacco now that the FDA has their fingers in things. Great video! I picked up a lot of information.
You sir...ARE THE MAN!!! Great vids, I truly enjoyed watching you work. I think I might be picking up some leafs and give this a try myself! While watching this and your other vids of course.
Hey Rickey, great video. I also live in the Tampa Bay area and just receintly started growing my own tobacco. I picked and bunched up some leaves to cure in the carport but they got moldy just after they turned brown (about 3 weeks). I 'm curing a new batch inside the house now and will try your method of rolling in a few days.
Top Cat good luck! I grew a crop a few years ago using Cuban tobacco seeds I got from the Dept of agriculture for free and mine got infested with mites so I cut it early and dried it and still have a big bag of smaller leafs but it is hard to age a small batch correctly-I went back to buying my leaf! but good luck!
Your vids are all good..they've helped a lot of guys I know how to get a even consistent roll by changing to the book roll..cheers bro from new Zealand. .have a good fat stoggie for me..
I smoke them almost right away. Since I keep the filler brittle dry, I only need to let the glue and the minimal moisture in the binder dry. I usually let them sit over the tv box for an hour or so, then unwrap them and put them in the humidor (where they rarely sit for more than a day!) Thanks for the question!
I really respect you rolling them yourself and the obvious knowledge you have. I do have two questions though. 1. As far as I was aware the wrapper doesn't just look nice, it imparts flavour. 3. The various mixes or blends of tobacco in a cigar are tested many times before they are decided upon. You're just hoping to get something good with the mix you have as far as I can tell. Or do you have specific tobaccos?
I am harvesting my first crop of tobacco this year. I have some on the plants , some drying in the garage and some is turning nice and brown in jars in my house. I have bee cutting the lower leaves off the plants as they loose that bright green color and start to yellow. I planted four kinds of tobacco but made the rookie mistake of planting them in the same plot. I can see the difference in the plants but I can't remember which was for filler, binder and wrapper, duh what a dope, ha ha. It is getting nice and brown so I guess Ill just experiment after they have aged a few months. I can't wait so I will order some leaf to practice on. Thanks for the video it has helped a lot. I can hardly wait. Regards Luke.
Luke Altomare just a statement know it's quite old now but the plant grown does not determine whether it's binder filler or wrappers you can get all 3 from the same plant it's all down to the fermentation of the leaves some of the most noted cigars on the market come from the same plant to name one that everyone know is perdomo they do a lot of cigars that all 3 parts are done from the same plant and most delicious I might add but yeah you can get it all from the same plant just gotta Ferment it right especially if u grew them in the sun to get a good wrapper from there you will be needing to Ferment them quite a while to get them pliable enough and oily smooth looking that you want... also the beauty of the leaf determines what will be wrapper as well...good luck though bro not to many Ppl do the home grown cigar tobacco here in the states cause the soil isn't exactly the best and the process of aging the tobacco properly is pretty tedious.. but yeah hope it turns out great and if it does hell send me some leaves to roll up I am a huge cigar aficionado and would love some home grown to sample
Very interesting video! I've got 160 mature tobacco plants nearing their harvest time, so I will have lots of leaves to play with over the winter. Sadly, I started the grow out intending to blend cigarette tobacco, of which I've since quit. They will make excellent pipe tobacco, but may make some unusual cigars. Ever had a Burley cigar? Lol.
Rickey Taylor Well, that's good news! I have enough leaf that I can afford to make some mistakes. I may also order some whole leaf wrapper leaves and just play around using my leaves as binder and filler.
Ricky, I think I need a FAQ... section:) Do you know what might be happening if the cigar feels kind of limp and loose as you smoke it? It doesn't start out that way. The draw now also seems a bit too open. Also, in general, how many seco leaves/legero leaves do you use per cigar?
P Higgison coming from a cigar aficionado such as myself the reason you are having that problem is your bunch isnt firm enough add more to your bunch and roll it a bit tighter you may be thinking it will make it bigger than what you want but that is not the case the case is you did not add enough to your bunch for the size you wanted try adding bit more and roll a tad bit tighter..the best way to get a fill for this is get you a cigar from the store you love to smoke and palm it in your hand firmly and squeeze it pretty tight so u can get a feel for what the bunch should feel like in your hand palmed with the same grip then roll that bunch... should get you right where you want to be... good luck bro... keep puffing a way at this beautiful thing we all love...
Hi Rickey! Using the bookbinding method, do you get a nice, easy draft, or Amore the milkshake one? I live in Sweden, seems difficult for me to buy from artistic cigar as they don't have a homepage. Do you have Any experience from Leaf Only? They have Nicaraguan seco and ligero salong other leafs. Peter
Thanks loved the video - I am new to cigar rolling. A question - do you leave the main stem in the binder when you roll your cigars or remove it? Thanks again.
Rickey, I've been growing my own tobacco but thought I would get a head start on rolling by buying some ready leaf. I've started rolling and things are not going quite as well as I had hoped. First off, my wrapper/binder is no where near as nice as yours. I got it from leafonly, ct broadleaf, but many of the leaves have holes and tears (also got Nicaragua ligero and seco). I dampened the binder leaves as you recommend and can find some leaves whole enough to get a good role. But my finished cigars are just not smoking well. I can't figure if they are too wet, too tight or both. They also don't stay lit. I'm going to keep trying but figured you might have some insights on what i may be doing wrong. As some of my wrappers are in such bad shape I have been using them as binder and then wrapping with a better leaf. Could that be adding to my problems? Also, do you ever cap your cigars?
we have to remember we don't have the experience of the rollers of that store bought cigar, so we experiment till we find what works best for us-I also have had binder with holes (most has some holes) and find a way to use it. Usually in the process of rolling the holes are "rolled up" in the cigar so it is still airtight. If you need it put another wrapper over it-we want it to draw without leaks. as far as draw and burning, mine don't draw or burn perfectly. Try to keep the filler in line and don't twist as you roll. Bad draw means it is too tight for the method of bunch you used-adjust it slightly. Also I don't roll wet-too easy to roll too tight. I roll moist and pliable, but not wet. Also my filler is DRY. Not crumbly dry but not moist at all. This keeps you from rolling so tight it wont draw and you can smoke it quicker when it doesn't have to dry out from the inside. Hope this helps! thanks for viewing my videos!
where do you get you supply's ? thx for the videos !! just starting out here.. been smoking blenders gold . price per cigar if you don't mind. I just found your ch so I may find what I'm looking for in some of your other videos.. ppl like you make the world go around.. thx again.. links if you don't mind..
Hey Rickey,Great video, I love a Medium to full flavor Cigar with a Maduro wraoper What in your opinion would be a good combo of tobacco? which tobacco leaves do you use in your cigars/ "From where, what country?" I've never tried to roll my own but would like to try! Again Great Video, Mike
my only concern is the contaminants on the ink of tne news paper sheet...the vidio is grate.. ease to undestand,, I wish you have done one with the rapper. thanks,,,,
Nope! The wrapper contributes little to the taste since it is so thin. Prob 90% is from the filler, 9% from the thick binder and 1% from the wrapper. It just makes it more airtight and prettier. Good for you rolling your own!
Hello love the video see u look a lotlike me hee heee J/k guess u own taylor cigars i smoke about 3-5 a day so ill try to get some leaves from you soon we also grow here in GA and have some nice backy 'peace love much smoke PS. my lady smokes also not a lot lady smoke now days

Super educational and most entertaining video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skill.
Great information and detail! Thank you , Rick!
Ricky, great video. Very informative. Ive watched it twice and learned something both times. Keep it up. Thanx
I know several of my friends are planning to start growing their own tobacco now that the FDA has their fingers in things. Great video! I picked up a lot of information.

That was extremely entertaining. The simple things of life are so much more enjoyable. You communicate the information very easily. Thank you
You answered my question at the end of the video!
Leaf Only is in Middletown, CT... great folks.
You are the best....nuff said!

Do you ever use Honey for glue?
Awesome video. Thank you! Hope all is well.
I use Dominican binder leaf-see below for where I usually get it.
I only have the new York times,is that OK or does it have to be the Tampa bay paper?lol
Très intéressant! Merci!
What a great video Rickey! What size storage containers do you have for the leafs?

Thanks for the video ,going to try this 1 day soon

Hans S. yes! there is a grower who sells philly leaf for cigars but it has to be aged- which is very tricky!
Rickey Taylor Well, that's good news! I have enough leaf that I can afford to make some mistakes. I may also order some whole leaf wrapper leaves and just play around using my leaves as binder and filler.
Did he say what kind of leaf he is using for the wrapper? Other than he uses binder leaf? Great video by the way, thanks.

i've heard that honey can work as cigar glue, is there any truth to that?
leaf only 440 Middlefield Rd Middletown CT
Great Video picked up three cures. My glue was
way to liquid.
How long do you have to wait to smoke them after they are rolled?
What's the yellow gel you use for cigars?
I let them sit for 1/2 hr to over night. 1 hr is prob best if binder is relatively dry.
Nice video Rickey !! Where did you find the 15 year old tobacco ???? I've checked around but can't find any well aged tobacco.Any info is appreciated.
Good video! Quick question... Generally how long do you wait after making them do you "dry" them? Do you dry them in your humidor or let them sit out?

Hi Rickey! Great videos. One question- what's the name of the leaf You use as binder? You get your Leafs from leaf only, right?

I roll my own cigars.
Like giant doobies
I got a cigar where it's peeling can I make that glue and it will be fine ?
my only concern is the contaminants on the ink of tne news paper sheet...the vidio is grate.. ease to undestand,, I wish you have done one with the rapper. thanks,,,,
chaki perdomo I wouldn't worry about it. The binder is not wet enough to absorb the ink-if it is u r using it too wet!
Hey Brother YHVH ROIR and YESHUA Emmanuel Messiah Christ Bless You Brother are You still rolling Cigars?😊
Thanks for showing me I don’t have to spend money on a cigar press!! Also am I misinformed that you loose some flavor by not using a wrapper??
