  • One of the Greaseman's "Lawman" episodes just for beach cops. I can remember everyone gathered around a car in the Gorman Avenue parking lot listening to the Greaseman before, after or during a shift.

I was a VA State Trooper in the 80's when he was big. I looked forward to day shift just to listen to him. There was none better, and this was after Stern and before Stern. I remember I had just stopped some citizen during some music, went up and got his license and registration and went back to my cruiser. I heard a Lawman bit playing and was cracking up. The guy I stopped was in a hurry and must have looked back to see me laughing. He came back to my cruiser, probably thinking I was laughing at him, wanting to know what was so funny. All I could do was hand him his stuff back and tell him to go on his way. Years later, I got to meet Grease when he was working for Falls Church Sheriff's Department. I went to lunch with him while he was in uniform. He was a great guy, and as genuine a person as you would ever want to meet.

Yes he was great. I met him at Shooters Paradise in Newington once. He had he blond bimbo looking wife with him. I have a few more episodes that I haven't posted. Glad to make you smile.

Yeah, my dad practiced law in Falls Church and Arlington in the nineties and got to know him. He was surprised that he took his job as a deputy seriously. I actually know the guy who replaced him when the Sheriff's Department fired him right after 94.7 dropped him after the James Byrd comment. Small world. Grease was great in his time. It's too bad he went too far and now many only think of him as a bigot.

Wow, he was actually a deputy?? I went to high school in Arlington in the 80s and used to listen to him. Many years later I became a Norfolk city officer, but that was long after he was off the airwaves.
